Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

Firestorm is a large map, should of used that, since it was a fan favourite foe the bf community

As far as large-scale Battlefield maps go, it was the definition of uninspired and mediocre.

I have issues with the radial menu. When I open it, I can only move my mouse to the left items and not the right. No issue with the controller though. Can't give a "Thanks" to the guy who revived me.

Had a match where within the first 10 minutes I jumped on the turret of a tank with a random driving and we literally survived until the very end on one life. Reminded me of the good old days on Battlefield 3 where me and a couple of buddies - all of us Engineers - would do the same thing. Speaking of BF3, I hope they bring back Operation Metro, if you know you know.

So this leaked. Its the map layouts for Mirak Valley and Eastwood compared against Siege of Cairo. Eastwood is apparently a DLC map that is going to be added at the same time as the BR mode

WOW amazing that a beta weekend isnt the full game, intant gratification generation.
Not a single solitary thing that is genuinely wrong here can be "fixed" at this stage. The core enduring fuckups were made on paper at the conception of BF2042.

Look, let's hope marketing can carry this, the studio stays open, and hopefully someone senior at EA quietly gets us some bf3/4/bc remasters with shit like crossplay in the pipeline.

Its one map and we know its the largest, so the other maps are guaranteed to be smaller. The only question now is just how much smaller. This doesn't exactly alleviate all the concerns people have when it comes to the size of the maps at launch.

Well fuck this matchmaking.. I'm just basically spending more time joining and quitting than actually playing. Like over 1-2 hour now just to find a breaktrough match that counts for one of the new challenges, meaning attacking side only.. that the team still needs to win if you want progress...

I started the beta on PC, tried it on PS5 Pro on Performance mode on a 120 hertz OLED TV with the Tactical Brit's controller settings, and I haven't been back to PC. Can't believe I prefer to play a BF game on controller, but it's that good. Any graphical different between the PC and PS5 Pro is negligible to anyone not obsessed over IQ.
Agreed. I bounce back and forth and the Pro gets me 95% of what my PC is giving me. I haven't played on any of the big maps though so unsure if the differences are larger there or not.
Screen tearing on the Pro is a bit annoying. Not sure why VRR is not working.
I'm choosing PC for a few reasons (over XSX). First off, I don't know how long I'm gonna be subbed to game pass and don't want to be tethered to that to play online mp games. Another is if I want to play kb/m I can, and if I end up liking controller better I can do that easily. I know kb/m is available for consoles but my setup just ain't gonna allow for that. Plus they dropped the requirement for the EA app so no double launcher bull shit. Lastly, it's just easier to tweak settings and chat and all that sort of stuff.
Yeah my problem is I got burned with BLOPS6 with the DirectX errors post- 24H2. Never has been fixed and it only affects that game.
Other problem is all my buddies who play online are all console and refuse to play with crossplay on.

Gonna get ragged on for this but 2042 is so overhated, at least that's my takeaway after logging a couple hundred hours in it. Granted I started 18 months post-launch after they had fixed and changed a lot of shit, not gonna defend the original product but I'm disappointed it hasn't gotten more defenders over its lifespan. I've loved the franchise since BF1942 and I would rank 2042 as one of my favorites. All the maps are memorable and the visual style, weapons, UI etc. have a really cool style. Also could do some fun stuff with Portal. But I've always thought BC2 and BF4 are painfully overrated by the most vocal fans so clearly I'm just swimming against the current with this franchise. Also thought BFV easily cleared BF1.

I'm no expert on the franchise but my time with 2042 has made me question everyone who criticized the operator / specialist design decision. To me, it's obviously the superior way to go as it gives you so much more playstyle variety. It's weird that people want to be locked into 4 basic classes.

pretty easy choice then

Well you're in luck, go play delta force.......

Why would life long fans want the class system that made the game so great, and have a rock/paper/scissors gameplay, to be replaced with gimmick operators, with their cheesy voice lines.

If you like 2042 style, more power to you, but there's a reason why most play BF in the first place, and 2042 is the opposite of that

Thank fkn GOD. With this and Firestorm, we've got 3 solid sized maps at launch. Not much, but it's 1 more than I thought (Eastwood maybe leaning more medium like Talah Market) Also, the two leaked remake maps are solid sizes (Propaganda, Downtown; Talah Market is more of a medium infantry map, like I said).

This game rips. Once you get to know the maps a bit more, dial in your controller settings, and turn off cross play it's a great game. The mini battles at certain flags have me super fucking pumped for the larger maps coming. Hopefully they listen to us with the spotting though. At the absolute very least they should deactivate the ability to spot when downed.

This is even more annoying, they bothered to makes a massive map/background that no one can see, but could potentially of been a bigger map

IFV, Main battle tanks and jeep battles and destroying buildings are brutal and fun in Cairo and Liberian peak. I still need to practice how to pilot jets and attack helicopter. Im so jealous on very good players piloting jets for dogfights and perfect bombing run that I saw on X. But my complain is I hope that Empire map is bigger and more vehicles.

100%. If on console turning off cross play is a must. Iberia and Cairo are both really fun. Lots of a choke points. I am looking forward to the bigger maps but the medium sized ones may be my favorite

Watching things unfold from an elevated position at the D flag on Liberation Peak can give you a true sense of what's to come with the larger maps. Please don't fuck this up EA.

I get revived in front of a tank, these are the kinds of moments you play for:

Not sure how some of those snipers get on the rooftops on Cairo

Haven't seen it once playing on Pro but that's because I have cross-play OFF so as to not sully my servers with the PC (Professional Cheater™) crowd 👌

Speaking of Pro, amazing that it holds 60 fps no matter what is going on with the kind of visual fidelity it has, this is what you get a PS5 PRO for.

You don't have to rely on using Aim Assist with a controller. Plenty of people turn it off, including me.
Fair enough. Tbf though AA is designed by devs for users who play on controllers. And input to be made competitive against KB+M players. This has been the case for most modern shooters that release on PC and consoles.

I mean you can turn it off if you want to but that'll put you at a pretty large disadvantage against both regular controller players with AA and KB+M.

Why is Dices principle game designer sharing 10 year old aimbotting videos?!

Oh wait, it's almost like he knows something.

He's also laughing at the battlefield bots crying about flicking constantly and "suggests" adding a maximum turn rate to soldiers to shut the fucking battledads up finally.

I've read these three specific critiques numerous times, but can you (or anyone) respond to this?

1) A gimmick is a shallow, meaningless change, right? How can 2042s operators be considered gimmicks if their diffentiating abilities and characteristics all have a meaningful impact on how you play them? Going from Dozer (shield guy) to Casper (drone guy) is fantastic because it forces you to look at the game in a completely different way. Where does "gimmick" fit in 2042?

2) 2042 is still very much about RPS design. Infantry v land vehicles v air vehicles. The operators don't seem to negate that in any way from what I can tell. What am I missing?

3) Halo Infinites multiplayer received overwhelming praise from "lifelong fans". Listening to ultra conservative fans of a franchise can often sink you faster than anything else. Evolution exists to provide an advantage.

If you like 2042 style, more power to you, but there's a reason why most play BF in the first place, and 2042 is the opposite of that.
2042 was all about large scale, sandbox, combined arms gameplay. BF fans prefer the opposite of that?

Wouldn't that just be BF6 and it's CoD esque smaller infantry focused maps?

So, something that they showed in the reveal that isn't in the beta is the use of ladders. Which class can use that? And does it replace another tool?

They should've used Caspian Border instead of Operation Firestorm...

fr, unlike Firestorm, where the flags are basically condensed into the middle of the map in a line, Caspian actually spreads flags out and uses the space on the map.

also fucking hating how i'm waiting a minute for a match only to get put into a game where we're already down 500 tickets.

Fucking despise this lack of freedom to find a server.

Played this for a bit. As a mostly a cod player, I don't think is for me. It's funny that mw19 there was outrage over poor visibility, but I feel like it's even harder here. Gameplay seemed to be just walk for a bit and then get shot from somewhere. Nobody seemed to play objective or revive. Destruction is selling point but at least on the map I was playing, I didn't notice it. I think the graphics looked good apart from depris lod

Halo Infinite received praise from "lifelong fans" BECAUSE it was a return to form. Just about every bit of praise I've seen has been about the game feeling like Halo used to. Everything from Armor Abilities now being equipment to the art style being closer to Bungie's was a rollback or an iteration on old ideas.

You make it sound like they succeeded despite what longtime fans wished for, when their entire hype campaign was built on an appeal to Halo's legacy.

Yep. Game is fun, but the weapons feel like they have no weight to them at all. No oomph. Big downgrade from Battlefield 1.

Movement feels off. Almost like it wants to be Black Ops 6. Has this twitch crackhead feeling to it.
The guns were fine last weekend. They've changed something, either hit reg, hit boxes or the matchmaking.
