Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

The capture objective challenge for rush / breakthrough was kind of a pain since apparently you cant complete it on the defending side, even if you recapture a point on breakthrough it doesn't count. Had like 10 games in a row where I was on the defending side, so bad luck.

Anyway that's all the challenges done. I'm really eager to see the larger maps, so I hope they show them off a bit more before release. I've warmed up to the game a bit more. I actually don't hate the Empire map. It's pretty dense with lots of options to flank and has more verticality, but by virtue of the fact there are no vehicles whatsoever, it is not a Battlefield map. I'm sort of coming to terms with the game, I am enjoying myself for the most part. Will it replace BF4? Hell no, not in its current state and likely never. But this game is its own thing and I vastly prefer it over 2042 even in its current state.

The whole beta experience has been pretty damn smooth with the exception of some matchmaking issues, which is a huge improvement over previous entries which were basically unplayable in the betas and even early on at launch. Still a bit on the fence, choppers suck currently and I need to see more transport vehicle options which I'm hoping are available on the larger maps. Doesn't make much sense to have them in the maps in this beta for obvious reasons.

Unless I'm not looking right it seems we can only be in a squad of four, again? I wish they would up this because i have about six friends who would like to join me in my game and via squad join it's super easy.

Why don't they make larger squads?

Its a balance thing. Since you can spawn on your squad mates, it would probably get a bit too crazy with more than 4 people able to spawn right on top of each other. There are also the spawn beacons that your squad can use and those can be hidden pretty well.

load into a game with your 4 man squad.
one of you leave and create new squad.
ask the other people that are not in the game/squad to join your game.
they should either load into your squad, or be put into a Q if the match is full.

Two taps with the svk on any enemy and it's a wrap. Best thing ive found so far for sniper suppression.

Still I run an SMG 90% of the time as support for hip firing off revives
And so many one taps with someone injured.

I too prefer the svk with its power but the other one is nice with the rate of fire if someone is close

I'm hating this fking game.
I can't kill a single player and I'm getting killed like it's nothing. One of the maps is a sniper fest. I keep getting shot from 5 miles away.
In the others, enemies can come from literal anywhere. There's no safe place and is unpreditable from where they will come.
And obviously if I'm looking left they will come from the right...
I just want BF 1943 back...

not sure why they use that engineer icon when the better wrench icon exists in the game on the character models

Its more the maps then the gameplay. Everything is a chokepoint in these smaller maps.

Well it took FOREVER but i finally got all the challenges done in the beta for both weeks.

Busy with other things and couldnt play 24/7 nor would i want to... the lack of team coordination in this game drives me crazy after a while.

Hopefully the full game is better when it comes to teamwork.

Man folk not reviving when standing next to you is starting to get tiresome 😑 (bloody COD players) Also the stupid bug where you get damaged just after spawning it also doing my head in.

Net code can be a bit iffy at times though, bar those betas alright.

Been having a weird but lately and today it got even weirder.

After waking my ps5 pro from sleep mode while still on the Battlefield menu it had my username as someone else's....

BC it's CoD now bro. Last weekend was pretty good but this weekend all the CoD nublets are squadding up and acting like every mode is TDM.

Can confirm that within max 5 seconds on Cairo breakthrough defenders can shoot attackers in their spawn.
Its stuff like that which you would hope they would fix but doubt they will.

Some people just lay on top of tanks all the time for repairing only lol

Fresh Off The Boat Salute GIF

This strategy of having an engineer on top of the tank repairing it is really good. We did that in a match today. Me and another friend were inside the tank, and another one as an engineer, lying on top of the tank repairing it. It was hilarious. We didn't lose the tank a single time. What was also funny was the final score, my friend who was just repairing got the highest score without killing a single person in the match.

Very satisfying final life. Spawn in, make sure C's good, and onto D for one last YOLO push. Thinking we probably didn't have a chance, not looking at the scoreboard until I get knocked, and realizing that it's over and we could no longer lose. And game ends before bleed-out. Cinema.

(I cringe a bit looking at the replay and realizing that I don't get credit for the flag capture, as I still need some number for the challenges)

Ye no that's not how you do it for a game like this. It's an event not a fucking marvel movie. You ruin what is special by making it a common thing.

They learned absolutely fucking nothing
This was my initial reaction too but there's no denying that Bobby Kotick pulled off the greatest play in gaming history by annualized CoD.

Yeah, when the game is on it's hard to beat. Seemed like it was preforming a little wacky tonight though. Maybe the servers were a bit over cooked with everyone trying to get their last fix in. Felt like i was dying much quicker than usual.

Absolutely epic

We can all find things to tweak and improve and bigger maps are definitely needed but the truth is all of the people in this thread crying and getting their pantyhose in a bunch will be there on launch day guaranteed, don't front and don't trip, there is nothing else like Battlefield on the market and when you're in that pocket the experience is truly exhilarating.

Finally finished all the challenges! Getting the 15 caps via Rush/Breakpoint was brutal considering 9/10 matches I was playing on defense side lol. Super excited for Octoer 10th, however!

would be toxic with full squads all running respawn beacons. I get the sentiment, but I think that would be too overpowering.

I did three matches of Breakthrough last weekend and three matches of Rush this weekend.

It's a solid game and I would gladly buy it if they added offline bots.

No, my point was that Halo Infinite failed because it adhered to what longtime fans of Halo wanted too much. I never think "Just make the game us old heads want" is wise.

The two pillars Battlefield should pursue is...

- Improve the sandbox
- Cater to more and more playstyles so there's a spot in that sandbox for everyone.
My mistake, though I still disagree with your conclusion. Halo Infinite had far too many problems, both in performance and gameplay design, to assume that it was catering to old heads that was the issue. It could be that Halo's classic gameplay doesn't appeal to today's players; considering the praise for its legacy features up to launch, I don't think that's the issue.

Battlefield I am less experienced with, so I can't say much about. Still, sometimes less is more. A solid sandbox can leave a lot of room for 4 classes to play around in.

Still not a thing, but I wish Battflield had proximity chat for your team as a minimum.
I get only hearing your squad from anywhere, but if I'm in a car beside a random, or in a sniper position with somebody I believe you should be able to hear each other. Probably been my biggest annoyance with BF over the years.

So I played enough to rank all guns to lvl 20, bar the Sniper rifle and starting LMG (you cant pay me to use these shit weapons, zero redeeming qualities)

I can say by the end, im really going to dislike the point system. Some guns just seem to "work" in that their starting stats give them a weakness which is a low point value to resolve. While others need multiple 30-40 point upgrades too offset their weakness, these all seem to be the ones that get access to the polymer tips ammo at the same point, which sucks, meaning your left with a weaker weapon with a cool upgrade you cant use, because if you do you will lose every midrange engagement.

Most people I think realise that the M4A1 Carbine was an incredible gun, which only got better with a handful of upgrades, same for the MP7. Everything else was just "meh"

What i found after extensive testing is "heavy barrel" or equivalent was the game changer. All guns have an invisible "bloom" stat which means the longer you hold down the trigger, the less accurate the gun becomes, even with perfect Recoil control. The game artificially makes the bullets fire off in random directions and it gets worse the longer you hold the trigger.

This means past extremely close range, if you dont kill them in the first 0.2 seconds of the engagement, the less likely you are to hit them, this also means when they react and start firing their going to be far more accurate and can kill you, while your bloom is RNG making you miss every shot.

Heavy barrel offsets this bloom and delays its ramp up, making your bursts far more effective for longer. This is by far the most important stat, because there's nothing you can do with skill to offset it, its completely RNG, everything else you can adjust via learning a guns Recoil patterns.

I will say that from the gun selection though you had some very different feeling weapons in the same role which is good. However some guns really need 1 extra damage, for example doing 33 means you need 4 body shots, because you do 99 damage with 3. Leaving them with 1 HP, this breaks some really low ROF guns, because it means they need the same number of shots as a gun which has double its RoF and does 25, because what's important is that it ads up to 100. This is why the 60 damage DMR was amazing, 2 shot everything.

Overall I enjoyed the beta, day 1 for me. Empire state map is shit though, what where they thinking?

Right but that fatigue is setting in. It's too late me thinks for the same formula to work now when the market is ADHD kids looking for the newest thing and jumping ship a week later.

Battlefield 3-4 were just modern day military shooters. Yearly release is how we go back to what they have already tried and failed at. You will just end up jumping to WW2 and future combat again. There's a reason people are hyped about this one it's because it reminds them of bf3. Then you make it a yearly release and all of a sudden those dont sell because people just want bf3/4

did a shit this morning that would play CQ better than these beta maps
Whilst I get your point, EA have been very smart. Attracting alot of fed up CoD players with this shit. Whilst we get a few big maps and some remade classics to keep up old BF fans happy

maps seem fine after few games on them, as you can predict better where ppl will be

the new small map is great too, but i always been a fan of infantry maps, loved close quarters DLC for example.

final game has a better balance between big and small maps compared to BETA, so should be enough for both types.

Folk who think this plays like COD obviously don't play COD (I do, every night for my sins).

To me, it plays exactly like every other Battlefield has done with the smaller close combat maps/game modes.

The ability of your squad determines the overall playing experience.

Yes, it's a shame we didn't get to experience a bigger map, but they want to keep some things fresh for the actual release!

Played all the battllefields. To me it does not.

I'm pushing 40 and dropped a 50bomb the other day (infantry gameplay only even). It's not that hard.

Especially with the hilariously overpowered one-shot shotgun.

Insightful. So what are you questioning? The fact that I don't think it plays like COD? Do you think it plays like COD?

COD is as shallow as a puddle compared to even the most basic battlefield offering. Try running around Stakeout for a single game and tell me that equates to your battlefield 6 experience.

Aaand the agony of defeat:

Totally didn't notice the "assist as kill" message on the first guy. So I kept throwing C4s.... and kind of shorting them but I digress. And there was a guy still on the minimap. And the fourth C4 didn't let me detonate and auto switched back to my gun (?)

But if I get on the point a few seconds earlier... maybe. Or when I run back to play cover once we're not contested, and then I eat some random RPG damage (edit: it was a nade I didn't see on the ground) and wait out my heal rather than aggressively preventing them from contesting...

Tried the tanks out:

Those were literally the only 3 shots I took at helos all beta, I swear. But the game was a nightmare constantly shuffling between F and C as nobody bothered to find their spawn beacon near F.

Driving the tanks was rough overall. Complete nightmare on the other two maps. These things are nowhere near as agile as I remember from previous games. Doesn't help just how cluttered the maps are. You almost feel like you're on rails. Hopefully there are a few real tank battle maps. BFV had a couple of good ones.

One last clip:

I'm not sure if it takes all four C4s to full-to-zero a tank... In the BF4 days I think it was maybe three. Though seemed like two in a panic would often do the trick. I think I saw 50 damage pop up when trying that in this game.

No kill trades in this game I guess, I think my sniper shot was on target, but that guy had the slug shotty and that's just the better sniper.

With the low TTK, lack of space for vehicles (tanks can barely get through half the streets, big maps barely any room for Jets), small infantry only maps, getting melee'd in the back with no audio clues anyone is there. I would say this has way more in common with CoD than any other BF, it's clear as day EA are aiming at that crowd.

I can post my BF hours from way back if it helps too 😂

I'm actually having a lot of fun in squad death match, so much better than a death match with 2 sides, the majority of the time my random teammates work through as a team like swat, certainly more squad teamwork than any of the other modes.

Also cross play OFF, I had it on the first weekend and Thursday of week 2, had a much better experience since switching off.

The beta made me buy and play Bf1. Got it during the last sale , 4 bucks.
Too fast and chaotic for me. Cramped and small maps, no vehicles. Seeing as how the full release may have only 2 or 3 maps which are bigger and proper BF, it will be a skip for me and wait and see.
