Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

This will be a first in a battlefield game :D They can focus on content and QoL instead of fixing their mess and adding back the missing features from previous games in the first year like they always did in the past
Doing early access with labs before launching the actual game early access? You bet! :D
Let's hope other devs will take note moving forward, at least where it is plausible for the labs part. But anyway just stop dropping unfinished games ffs, delay is still better when needed and another thing that's even better is waiting to announce when it's actually almost ready.

I didn't get to play as much on the second weekend even though I had much more fun the second weekend. I played almost exclusively as an engineer so barely any revives :messenger_grinning_sweat:

First weekend I was in the hospital and barely got to play. Second weekend I got some hours in. Haven't played a FPS since 2042 released. Did a little worse than I hoped I would, but not that bad.

We are now hoping for the return of bigger maps from the old BF games. That's where we are, it's really sad. Dice was also a master of level design but so far I haven't seen a really well-made map in BF6... I'm a little worried about this game, I hope Dice is listening.

Also add that fuckin server browser!!
We will also receive DLC maps, and I'm sure more classic remakes will follow (hopefully, Caspian border.) I understand the concerns, but let's just remain patient. That BETA was still leagues better than all of 2042 could muster.

Yeah I guess they were streaming and their main account the game crashed several times in a row and they even tried repairing the game but it still crashed and closed out but running on that alt account they were fine

Something flagged their main account
After further review (i.e. finding the crashing VOD), it looks like the same account. Just played through Steam instead of EA. You can pull stats for the TTV version but not the other on that site you posted. Could also be another account I suppose, but it was also level 20. Might be some way to prove it one way or the other by combing through the footage to see if loadouts match exactly, that sort of thing.. but that's a bit too much work. The switching from EA to Steam in the context of troubleshooting crashes that seem to be related to the EA party system also seems reasonable. Just 'switching an account' is inherently much more suspicious as it's not a particularly logical troubleshooting step for a client crash. Speaking of which. The game client was just crashing. In the menus, but also just after loading into a game. It would a pretty bizarre ban mechanism instead of just giving you a "fuck off you've been banned" message and not letting you try to play.

And since this is the first BF where I'm back on Steam, I can see the same behavior. My Steam name appears in game (space in between words) whereas to look up my stats I have to use the linked EA account name where no spaces were allowed:

Also good to see him back with some good points, hoping we'll see some more of the true classic maps

BF2 still had a lot of PC gamer DNA... most people aren't going to look at a map. The commander mode was never that great as most of the time you wouldn't even have someone in the lobby that wanted to play it on both teams, let alone people who would actually take 'orders' seriously. With the auto spotting dialed up as much as it is in BF6, looking at the map and getting a feel for what you should be doing next might even be a little better than recent games IMO.

The real villain here is and always was squad spawning. Get rid of that and make sure there's strong counterplay for cleaning out spawn beacons and all of a sudden Conquest becomes a lot more tactical and organized out of necessity.

Just pondering the sector map that BF2042 uses, there's the idea of controlling large chunks of the map (rather than just the cap point as indicated in say BF6). Make it so beacons don't work if enemy controlled areas.

Sure and I will most likely be there day one (or week one, no pre-oder anyway) but I just think it's baffling to have such small maps. They account for half the maps on release and the level design isn't even very good so far imo, or at least not on the level of what I expect from Dice so yeah I'm really concerned.

If the only very good maps we have are from older games, it's very sad. But wait and see for sure.

Thought about playing 2024 for the bf6 skins but holy shit, what a sad and horrible game it turned out to be. The maps all have a retarded layout and everything feels off. I had to stop after 3 rounds, didnt matter what 'specialist' I played. Good thing it was on game pass. Fuck the skins, im not wasting my tine.

They sadly shut down Battlefield 2024 last year.

Jokes aside, 2042 wasn't great... It's really a dumb game to use as a promotion vehicle for BF6.

Rush shouldn't be 64 players. Thanks. Figured out that 15 years ago? Or 20? When did Rush first come out?

It's rather obvious.

It's also a bit of gaslighting to tell the community you can do whatever in Portal. In this case tell the misguided people if they want 64 player Rush they can do it there.

But the cynical might think Portal was created in the first place so the suits have a place to send all the whiny desires. Ok really send all the desires they don't cater to. Misguided or intelligent.

Don't like anything about our game you can change it in Portal! You can play your BF just like you eat your Whopper with light mayo and no onions with bacon and crispy strips - alone.
Hardcore mode is all I need.

Playing normal BF is like riding a bike with training-wheels.

The movement is the worst part for me, way too slow/clunky, and they are about to make it even slower...

Do people want to just stand still?

BF is not supposed to be parkour with guns like COD.
No it shouldn't, but reality is this is trying to replace Call of Duty. It's more business than game.

Problem here is there are some fucking insanely talented people at Activision, COD is extremely deceptively simple, if it was easy to copy and replace it would have been done decades ago. Only way to really dig into their market share (1 million is nothing, COD is enormous) in a meaningful way, is to be unique mechanically, like Battlefield used to be long ago, that's my opinion.

Why the fuck, WHY THE FUCK, would I give someone money for a cod clone, a fucking knockoff? Why? That's a question I can't answer to myself.

Even if the cosmetics were perfect, even if it's mechanically perfect and on point to COD, the maps legendary, the music perfect, the voice acting awesome, why? What's the point? I can get the real deal on Gamepass right now. There's an even better one coming out day 1 soon, the hell is EA doing here?

I'll delete my account if this game even gets 10% of COD's market share. 5% maybe if EA markets this in complete crunch overdrive.

It's evident that EA never in a million years expected them to suddenly put mainline COD on Gamepass, it's almost cruel of Microsoft and Activision to have done so, but that's just how it is.

Well yes its all about the revenue and trying to pull in the COD players but there is a fine line were it alienates the BF players. BF has had its identity figured out but after 4 it went for a soul search. At the moment it looks like we are finally getting back to the groove and I am really hoping the original BF players voice themself loudly to keep BF in the path. The fact 6 is like it is now is because most BF players rejected the last offerings of Dice.

I don't know who this game is for. When Blops 7 drops on Gamepass it'll be a memory. The next great Battlefield franchise won't be from EA, that's for damn sure.

im kinda annoyed theyre removing the spawn beacon from recon, suits my play style fro recon, ie flanking and getting behind the enemy to back cap

I'm fine with the change. They want people to push objectives and not wank on the sidelines. Recon now has to actually travel back to their camping spot before they can lit their sniper glint back up. Gives a little breather for the infantry.

Most likely. BF players will still stay if they capture 3-4 feel. I could not care less about Blops 7.
Back in the day when they still made mechanically unique bf games there would be a small subset of guys who played those small tdm maps religiously, those dudes are at least in for a great time. As a niche, it's great.

i get the change because 99.9% of recons just wanna use the beacon to sit on a hill, but some recon players like to play aggressive and flank and constantly PTFO, the beacon and TUGS are perfect for that. its not a big deal, since ill be running with assault players anyway, be interesting to see if assault players care about spawns over having more explosives and a shotgun, most wont care about spawns only kills

be interesting to see it in action

Yup and considering the weapons are not locked in class you can still do that sit on a hill "tactic" but now with less ammo.

Could you share a clip of that dynamic? I'm curious to see how that plays in terms of pacing and the gunfights in general.

Oh, from my own subjective experience with BF since 2 on PC, close quarters sucked, lmao, but hey listen those guys (playing their little infantry only maps) had a blast, maybe there are millions out there who are going to have the time of their lives with the game! I just like bullying DICE, it's therapeutic.

I just don't think they can handle another 2042 misalignment situation with COD firing on all jets and Gamepass. Seems reckless.

Walking back on movement feels like there's a confidence issue which is ridiculous seeing as the maps are already made and locked in, the mechanics are geared hard towards COD, they'll have to lean in or this won't do, they're taking on, in my opinion, the absolute apex of Call of Duty in Black Ops 7, an inhuman and cruel expectation to place on anyone.

EA's executive need to chill the fuck out, it's an enormous almost comical request to have DICE take on COD, this COD, so directly.

I mean, ignore all the marketers, influencers, everyone, and recognise reality, the risk of it all.

They're still not nearly in as terrifyingly bad territory as Arc Raiders is, though, not even close. That entire Concord gaggle of studios are a giant fuckup, imo.

If the clapping seals on reddit are happy with bf6, then maybe that's enough, that'll do. To me, personally though, the gestalt, the soul, the vibe of these two BF titles (2042/6) is unsettling.

Just out of curiousity, did anyone try mouse and keyboard on PS5 during the beta? I've been thinking about finding a bluetooth set but don't know if I wanna blow the money. This is the first shooter I've really wanted to play in a while.

They really should do one more weekend closer to launch showing the changes they made and with one of the bigger maps. That could sway me to pick it up if it's good enough.
