Battlefield 6 CCU is massive and still growing — 568K in the first 30 minutes

Is this the first time COD should be worried?

It be rather fitting if it severely underperformed under Microsoft stewardship. It'd be par for the course really.

As a BF2 veteran that played most of the entries I have no desire to jump back in.
But I'm glad the series is back on track, both in gameplay direction and sales.

Same history here but superb hyped for this. It has so much room to grow if they hit a home run already at lauch. Beta was great so the pedigree is there

I swore to myself I will never, ever, ever buy another Battlefield within the first 30 days of its release. Too many instances of rubber banding, blah blah blah issues, at launch.

But hot damn. I might have to let myself down and break the promise.

Same after the 2042 launch…I caved and preordered this yesterday.

I haven't followed this at all. Can some point me to a good review or YouTube of the game? I haven't played a battlefield in probably… 15 years

There's a bunch of people live on youtube right now, just watch any of those instead of a review.

So what's causing this - people really like these kinds of games and CoD hasn't been doing it for them? This filling a shooter-shaped hole?

I'd imagine it's a bit of COD fatigue combined with this general sentient around BF6 that it feels like a return to the style of BF3 and 4, which were quite popular.
Also they had big open betas that were quite fun and, at least for me, devoid of big technical issues, which probably increased confidence in the final release.

100% that imo. Players are looking for good fun, but with realistic aesthetics and sensations without falling into simulations like ArmA or Squad.

Just speculating, but here goes.

2042 started off bad, but eventually was good. It just took so long and had too much bad will before it happened. Not enough good will to make a dent, but enough so people would give the next one consideration.

COD is still fun and is still king of the realm, but has been coasting for a while. It's basically like a sports game at this point. So people are interested in alternatives.

Maybe look at it like NCAA football last year. Madden is still king of the realm, but the new guy on the block is getting attention too.

Its going back to basics what worked on battlefield. People are sick of cod and have been for a while. Issue has been that BF tried to copy COD instead of doing it own thing so it was basicly same to just play cod. There has been hunger for this since BF4. Thats 12 years ago

wait, I still have to log in, just finished work, count +1 😅
Sunday is gonna be massive. A million is not out of the question (maybe even tonight).

This is a really big freakin launch, let's hope it sends a message to EA and other publishers on how to treat their IPs.
