BeautifulMemory -- great results!

LaneDS -- yeah I'd give it a couple days & see what it does, particularly coupled with changing your diet a bit.

Deadly Cyclone -- Asylum 1 & 2 back to back sounds super-intense! You might want to do a recovery week in between. I was originally going to do Asylum 2 after P90X2, but it appears that X2 PAP workouts are fairly similar to Asylum workouts so I'm going to do a different program (most likely Les Mills Combat) following X2.

As for me, I'm debating whether or not to do a fifth week of Phase 1. There are a few exercises I'm not comfortable raising the weights on yet and I'm not sure if I should move on to the Strength phase in that case. Any suggestions? If I don't do another week of Phase 1, I'll be starting Phase 2 next Wednesday morning, after a 3-day recovery "week".

Day 80.

Can't believe how close I'm to being finished... Well actually I'm not going to be "finished" anytime soon, as I have decided to take a week off and hop right back to day 1. There's still a plenty of what to accomplish for me in P90X, maybe after second round i'll start something different.

Last weeks workouts have been absolutely amazing. From the knowing of "this is my last time doing c&b, plyo, etc." have made me bringing it extra hard. Feels good man.

Also here's a new modification which have worked perfectly for me.

I'm one of those who feels very tired at half point of the resistance workouts. I would need a longer break to really bring my a-game to the second part, but I really don't want to make workouts any longer than they already are.

So my solution has been: When the halfway point rest comes, I pop ab ripper x in and do it, after that i pick up where I left off and get much better reps for the second part too. No time wasted and a more effective workout done. Also I hated starting ab ripper X after the "real" workout was done.

Steve, personally I say move on to the strength phase, since technically you can do 3-6 weeks on it. By the timePAP hits you will notice improvement in the areas you are now still uncomfortable with. Sometimes it's better to move on and keep going

You're probably right. I plan to do 6 weeks total of Phase 2 -- 3 weeks on the "normal" schedule, then a 3-day recovery period, then 3 weeks on the "alternate" schedule with V-Sculpt and X2 Chest/Shoulders/Triceps subbed in for Chest Back & Balance and X2 Shoulders & Arms.

Yea you will keep on improving. I did 6 weeks of phase 2. :)

Haven't posted for a few days, or maybe since last week when I was deciding what to do next. Having trouble getting the time(or motivation) to workout. My kid sister( who's 10) is having some serious problems with her bi-polar and had to be admitted. I don't do well with having sick family members, I worry so much that I get extremely depressed (which has happened before). So if you don't see me around here, that's what's up. Hopefully I'm back in the game %100 soon, I was starting to see the results I really have always dreamed of. It would be a shame to lose it all now(again).

I plan on a P180X hybrid of X and X2 when i get back. I hope its soon.

Day 9 of Insanity done :)

I was hesitant to do it today and almost didnt since I was tired, but thankfully the voice of reason triumphed and slayed that Pure Cardio workout!

So I was thinking about getting Body Beast but had a few questions:

1) While I can come up with an eating schedule that reaches the 3,000 calories and the 25/50/25 (protein/carbs/fat) breakdown of the nutrition plan, I don't do it with the prescribed portions (i.e. I am not eating exactly 8 starches or 7 fats). So what is more important? Reaching the calorie and % breakdown goals, or meeting the portion goals? I am assuming its the former but thought I would ask.

2) I am currently doing fat shredder on P90X and am eating about 280g of protein. With the above noted meal plan, I actually reduce my protein intake from 280g to 195 while my carbs spike significantly from 179g to 389g due to all the starches, fruit, legumes, veggies, etc. Now I know the purpose of the first 2 phases is to bulk up, but is the reduction in protein and the significant spike in carbs going to make me lose muscle definition and gain fat, or am I being paranoid?

3) I would like to get the Bowflex dumbbells and noted they have a set that goes up to 52 pounds and one that goes to 90 pounds. Are there any exercises that would require more weight that 52 pounds? I realize this is probably based on one's strength, but did anyone go higher than 52 pounds on any of the Body Beast exercises?

Hmm, I might try this.

How is it going now Lane?

The closest thing I have experienced is when my arms just kind of fall asleep on their own due to fatigue. I can literally feel my arms stop working

I've been having an issue similar to this recently. I've been waking up in the middle of the night and both of my arms are completely dead asleep. Scared the hell out of me the first time it happened.

I've been putting off going to the doctor and trying random natural remedies to improve circulation which have helped a little but it still happens occasionally. Most successful so far seems to be using a foam roller before bed.

Anyone else have circulation issues/solutions?

Not Body Beast specific, but I have the Bowflex 552's and even in P90X there were a few exercises where I was up to 45lbs (lawnmowers and heavy pants for example). I'm planning a Body Beast run next year (after I finish P90X2 and Les Mills Combat) and I expect I'll be buying the heavier set for that.

52lbs will probably be enough.

Body Beast is all about doing different set routines with very minimal rest between exercises.

For example with drop sets the rep count is 15, 12, 8, 8. There's also progressive sets that go 15, 12, 8, short rest, 8, 12, 15.

So while 52lbs might not necessarily be enough weight for a standalone exercise, it will probably be enough when used inside of a set like that... I hope I'm explaining that well enough.

And I use the full 52lbs for chest presses, deadlifts, and squats.

Halfway done with day 26, but just had a band break and give me a welt from my left foot (wasn't wearing shoes) to my right pec, so taking a 5 minute breather. Careful with those things, I just bought this one less than a month ago and wasn't even stretching it that much.

This is something I haven't thought about.. I like it.

Well, did week 4's X2 Balance & Power this morning so the workouts for Phase 1 are now finished. For the next 4 days I'll be alternating Recovery & Mobility and X2 Yoga, then on Wednesday I start Phase 2.

First week of December I'm away on vacation. The resort I'm going to has an excellent fitness center so I'm thinking of taking classes there (they have a very wide variety) in place of my X2 workouts. I may bring a couple of the videos along just in case, but it'll probably end up being a "break" in terms of X2 for the week.

Oh and I got in a second workout this morning -- I helped unload 70 bales of hay into the barn :)

My Body Beast arrived today and I previewed the first couple of work outs... and ah.. damn, that Sagi is intense. I'm not sure if I could take someone yelling at me the whole time but the work outs look crazy good. I also love that there's a day dedicated just to Shoulders. I always felt p90x lacked in the shoulder work outs.

Oh, can someone add me to the P90x Grad list? :D

I'm actually starting to like Sagi in an ironic sort of way. He's like a bad parody of bro culture. It's hilarious if you don't take it seriously. He yells at me and I just laugh.

And yes, the workouts are excellent. I'm completely hooked. While p90x is great for all around fitness, Body Beast builds strength and muscle so much better. I am halfway done and am very, very happy with the results thus far. I can't wait to post pics when I'm done.

Asylum 2 ordered. Really looking forward to it.

Nice. I'm looking forward to reading your impressions. My plan is to do some type of Insanity routine to cut after I'm done with Body Beast.

Feels like it's been a bit since I dropped into the thread...

Started the first of the last three weeks of Insanity yesterday, meaning I took the fit test and did Max Interval Circuit for the first time...

Yikes.

Wasn't super crazy, but man did that feel like it kept going. Personally can't wait till I'm done Insanity so I can get a hybrid workout going...I miss the resistance trainings.

So I'm sitting in the waiting room at a radiology office to get x-rays done. My doctor thinks my problems mentioned earlier are related to a pinched nerve, so I'm getting my spine looked at along with a five day anti inflammatory steroid prescription. Also he confirmed my lower back is weak almost instantly which explains why ab ripper *always* hurts my lower back. So once I get better and get the go ahead to train again I'll be focusing on that some more. Hopefully results come back with nothing too serious because I'd hate to be unable to workout for too long.

LaneDS, hope it turns out to be nothing serious. X-rays when I hurt my back revealed an old injury that I am supposed to have a specialist look at at some point. I need to set that and my annual physical up. Been procrastinating and my wife's been bugging me about it :p

I forget if you've done Asylum Volume 1, but its Back to Core video has the best back workout I've ever done. Might be worth looking in to to strengthen your lower back. A couple of the moves simulate swimming -- you lay on your stomach like you're doing a superman, feet raised and chest up. You can either kick your legs or keep them straight. Then with your arms, you can:

- start with them forward. Palms up, bring your elbows back under & outside your chest, raising your chest up a bit for clearance, then sweep your arms out to the sides & back to the front again & repeat. Movement should be slow & methodical, do it for 30-60 seconds.
- same as above but in the reverse direction with palms down
- roll up a flat ankle/wrist resistance band or a sock into a tight tube. Get into superman position with your hands in front of you and the tube in one hand. Pass the tube to the other hand and sweep your arms out to the sides and then above your lower back. Pass the tube to the other hand & sweep your arms out & back to the front & repeat the movement. Do this for 30 seconds clockwise and 30 seconds counter-clockwise. Goal is control -- don't let the tube unroll.
- from superman position do a crawl stroke, including kicking. You can do a surfing move here -- fast crawl as you paddle to a wave, then put your hands on the "board" and hop up to a low crouch with your arms out to the side, pulsing up & down a bit, then hop down again & "paddle" to the next wave. Alternate left foot forward/right foot forward when you hop up to "surf".

Holy crap guys, there's an awesome gym minutes from where I live that's big, all the equipment is new and it only costs $10 per month. I think I'm going to buy a portable DVD and do Body Beast with it.

Nice. I've seen crazy good gains in strength doing BB so far. Asylum 2 is going to kick my ass next month. I'm sure my stamina is shit since you do next to no cardio in BB and my basketball league ended last month.

Haha, that's the one. Just signed up and I bought a portable DVD player and Body Beast. Really excited to start this soon.
I totally would've signed up for that place if they had a pool. I miss swimming, and I live really close to Crossroads. Also, we should hang out some time!

Holy crap, didn't expect to see someone who lives that close to me in this thread. We should definitely hang out sometime.

Beast is coming this Friday so I'm probably going to start it the same day. To mantain the great P90X2 results, I'm also gonna do PAP Lower, X2 Yoga and X2 Ab Ripper along Body Beast.

Extremely excited to see the results from this program now that I have a ton of equipment available.

I am so happy to see that you guys not only still post here but are still active and doing regular/new programs.

How long has it been since you guys first started?

Started week 1 of phase 2 today, Chest Back & Balance + X2 Ab Ripper. My chin-up tower is a hindrance for both x pull ups and levers. Parts of the tower are simply in the way. And of course there are no perpendicular grips. So I'm going to look into alternatives.

I did fairly well overall. I added assisted pull ups here & there to max out, but I dropped one of the three bands from my chin-up max so assisted moves are a bit harder. I had some troubles with the 3-ball and one-ball Plyo push-ups, mostly with the balls moving on me. I did impossible/possibles with two med balls to start with and did better on the four med ball push-ups than I'd expected.

X2 Ab Ripper went very well, my best at this one yet. I can see myself mastering this in a few weeks, especially at 3x per week. Still need a bit of work on tornados and abrinome but overall I'm happy with my progress.

@BeautifulMemory, I've been at it since January 9th. P90, Insanity, P90X, Asylum 1, and now P90X2.

Started P90X back in 2010. Did P90X, about 3/4 of Insanity, maintained with P90X/Insanity hybrid until X2 came out. Forgot about X2 until this thread started in January, took the plunge and went through X2. Have gone back to a X2/Insanity/X hybrid, but I just got Body Beast two weeks ago and I'm one week in. I feel great and love the muscle gain potential, I certainly feel it. My legs haven't felt like that since I did Plyometrics for the first time in X. :p

Like BeautifulMemory, glad to see everyone still active and continuing/starting new programs. Congrats to all those that have finished!

Whose all doing Body Beast now? Seems like a considerable amount now.

Really enjoying X2 so far. Much less punishing than X1, but I feel like I'm getting a better overall workout every time.

I really like how they made every workout more synergistic so you're not just doing iso routines ad nauseam like in some X1 workouts (especially ARX and Ch-Sh-Tri).
