Just purchased the P90 set. Can't wait to start! Complete beginner question: Should I go ahead and get a Yoga mat?

A good mat is useful for so much of these programs, whether it's for padding or just simply to have a surface you clean easily sweat on and clean off later (because you will sweat if you're doing these things right).

err yeah, i meant P90X. But cool. I may give this a try. The only problem is I live on the second floor. Am I going to be causing a lot of noise?

One workout in particular, plyometrics, involves a number of jumping moves. Aside from that one it's not too bad (I live in an apartment on the top floor and haven't had any neighbor complaints yet after nearly 50 days with me and my roommate doing P90X every evening).

I bought a jump mat to buffer the noise. You will just have to really control your landing, which is required anyway. But some noises are unavoidable for two moves. The mat helps a lot

I grabbed one purely for the ab-ripper routine. So much nicer doing crunches on foam then it is on carpet or whatever. Definitely worth it.

Hi! It's really a matter of time. With the pushup you can use your knee. With the dip you just have to be patient and push yourself. As long as you are doing the resistance workouts you will see improvements

Do as many of those push ups that you can, then switch to your knees on the ground. You will get stronger. For dips, try bringing your feet in closer than they do on the video and over time start putting your feet out further. Keep up the good work, gotta love clothes getting looser. Your pocket book won't tho ;)

Thanks guys, I kind of figured it was just a physical wall I needed to get through early on. In just these early weeks most of my form and strength for the different upper body sculpt routines had come along leaps and bounds, but I felt as though I was lagging a bit here. I'll keep at it though, keep demanding more of them triceps and deltoids!

I just found a new super food that tastes pretty good: lupini beans. These things pack a shitload of protein and fiber. I think I'm gonna eat these instead of the protein bars.

I don't have a good answer for you because even regular beef turkey cost the same

I cut our turkey jerky after not finding it on the X2 guide. Silly me...

You can eat it. Just try to find the natural kind without a bunch of a junk in it. The stuff is pretty much all protein, no fat and low in calories.

I know...I just like to follow the plan to a T as much as possible. Silly I know and I can't figure out why they would take it out

On another note, balance and power tonight.

Thanks man, this should be fun. Has been so far, even if my body is on fire.

@KingGondo - Yeah, there will not be any crap beer taking place. Sam is about the lowest I go, and normally I drink Guinness. Pretty sure I'll be perusing the fine beer section at the local Kappy's if I need anything, but I'll try to keep off until 'til this bachelor party a month and a half from now.

God damn I can't wait until this thing starts to work. I want to get addicted to it. Badly.
Big Guinness fan here myself. Hard to go wrong with that.

My main issue isn't beer itself, it's changing my habits around it. Thankfully, P90X has been very helpful in pushing me to make real changes.

Don't ever watch Insanity :)
I went through Insanity once a couple years ago. But I see that as far more specialised than P90X, so in that context those kind of moves are OK, though still inherently risky, and I can totally understand why Tony said what he did about Insanity and CrossFit in that video posted earlier.

Balance and Power is awesome. I was never able to do the full lolasanas (or trollasanas) though.

It was fun! Really liked the use of weights and balance. Loved the Mary Katherine modification. And lol @ trollasanas, pretty much. I thought I could maybe hold it for 2 secs. Nah. Couldn't even get myself up. The last move is a trip too. I kept falling off my medicine ball @ the 5th rep, and took me multiple tries to get it to 7 reps. Really liked the group of people too, they were all having fun with Tony.

Sibling rivalry, ha!

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
How many of you guys can actually do Crane in Yoga X? It's damn near impossible for me, which I guess I can attribute to my weak upper body. I can really only do it with my big toes just barely touching the floor — otherwise I can only get myself 100% off the floor for a few seconds at a time.

I had trouble for the first few weeks, too. You're doing just fine. Keep persevering.

I don't do crane or plow. I can technically get into plow but I just get this fear that I'm going to collapse and break my neck.

I pass on Plow, but I attempt Crane. I managed to hold it for almost 15 seconds one time, usually I start to lose balance after about 5-10 seconds though.

On another note, I received my Powerblock adjustable dumbbells yesterday and they're awesome. I can't wait to use them for Shoulders and Arms tonight. I was using 2 sets of handles with weight plates prior to getting these, and with limited weight plates I was stuck using only 2 sets of dumbbells for all workouts. It will be nice to have a full 5 to 50 pound weight range available (in 5 pound increments) in seconds.

Well I fucked up last night. Friends invited me out after work for drinks and I capitulated. Ended up getting half cocked on tequila, smoked a bowl and then ate three soft tacos from taco bell and a bag of popcorn, followed THEN by what I was only supposed to eat, swordfish and some greens. Damn munchies.

I feel pretty crappy and guilty about it today. The pot and the alcohol combo is definitley something that will set me back and break rules. Can't do that again. It's gotta either be one or the other when I go to socialize, or none at all.

So tonight Im doing Yoga. Im going out on my break and picking up a mat along with walking a few miles.

Hey, cheat days are part of the plan. :p

I do a cheat day every week, keeps me sane.

Don't beat yourself up man, everyone is gonna stumble now and again, and the only thing to do is bring it extra hard next time. I got damn movie theater popcorn at the Avengers last night and I'm kind of regretting it now, but that's just the way it goes. Today will be all-good-all-around.

I will say that weed is just really tough to incorporate into the whole deal. My willpower is great sober and even fairly drunk, but the munchies have been inescapable for me

Exactly. Me too. Thanks for the support. I'm gonna be busting my ass this weekend that's for sure. At least now all of the crap food is legitimately out of my kitchen.

90/10 rule. If you are eating and doing it right 90% of the time, the other 10% won't hurt you. Cheat meals are fine and encouraged in order to keep you 'sane'. Just don't make it a habbit.

Don't beat yourself up, JTG.

Learn from your mistakes and correct them, and persevere through the program. If I can drop the terrible beer habit I picked up in law school, you can change your habits too.

There's a big difference between taking the commitment seriously and faltering every so often and expecting results without real commitment of any kind. I've never seen anyone in this thread get down on anyone else for the former and I can tell that's what you're going through.

edit: haha, right, I mean DONT EAT THAT SHIT ANY MORE WHAT ARE YOU AN IDIOT

Ugh I took last week off while on vacation (I had actually planned to do some workouts but didn't, drank instead.) Getting back into the 6 days a week routine has been brutal and I feel like in one week I undid about 3 weeks of effort.

At least I had a good time.

OK. So far, so good. 1st time with Yoga was interesting. I've got lots to learn about keeping the mind clear, especially during crane position. Cripes.

Anyway, this will be day 5, so legs, back, abs, and I'm sore, but the soreness is sort of...warm. Is it supposed to hurt, or what? In retrospect there are times when I've said to myself after losing form that I could have come back with a shorter break, but at the same time I have no desire for injury. What are your thoughts on that, GAF?

That sounds exactly like how you're supposed to feel. If your experience is anything like mine you're in for a big shock at your strength gain just from day 1 to day 5.

It's most likely incomparable to you guys' experiejce, and granted I only had veggies and beef, but I just ate at Panda Express for the first time in 3 1/2 months
