Beachbody Workouts |OT| Gaf Does P90/X/X2, Insanity/Asylum, T-25 and More!

SteveMeister

Hang out with Steve.
Cool, although my diet is 1600-1800 during the week, a bit more on weekends. I don't necessarily do this on purpose, but I eat the same basic things every weekday with work and all.

Yeah, I worried about losing some strength. Seems like the minute you stop doing pull-ups/push-ups you lose that ability. I was thinking of just ending each Inanity workout with some basic moves from P90X.

Looks good to me. I'm 5'11 with a bit stockier body build so 185 would be the lowest I need to go. I'm hoping to drop from 207 (weight today) to 190 over the course of the program. I was 235 a year ago though. X2 caused me to lose 5" off my waist, it's awesome. :p

I'm also 5'11". I need muscle weight -- that's where P90X comes in :)

And don't worry about pushups -- Insanity is *LOADED* with pushups. Particularly phase 2. All kinds of pushups. V pushups, one legged V pushups, squat pushups, narrow pushups, wide pushups, balance pushups, several varieties of burpies, side pushups, power pushups, etc. etc. There are no pullups (obviously, no equipment required) but there's LOTS of upper body, lower body & core work in the program.

You better be a wizard, Harry.

My replacement band and super heavy orange band came! Way to go BMP!

And now, Plyometrics: Installing Diablo III Edition

DAMNIT. Fucked up my toe during Squat Jacks. Not twisted or sprained or anything, it's on the bottom, like I burned it or something... wtf. Struggled my way through the last 20 minutes.

Arrrrgh. Well, if this is my first and last injury through the whole cycle, I guess I should be thankful.

Incoming Diablo III sorrow-drowning...

Plyometrics was today for me as well. I don't know why I still find myself dreading it beforehand when it's probably the one workout that I can pretty much crush every time. The only part I struggle with, and I know this sounds ridiculous, is the very first move, squat jumps. I think it's because I'm still trying to get going or something, but I always have to fight to get through the 30 seconds. On the other hand, I love these days because it's such a short workout without ARX. More time for Max Payne 3.

But a burnt toe? Hmm, damn, if the bottom of your feet are catching fire during squat jacks, you must really be bringing it.

Also, Tony posted this on his Facebook yesterday:
I'd like every one to know that I post everything on this page, and read your comments. There is NO moderator pretending to me here. I write things based on facts, studies and 30 plus years of experience. If you have an opinion that's fine but if you want to come in here and act like a pedantic ass disseminating myopic crap go to someone else's page.
Not really sure what he was referring to. :lol

Haha, you know, like friction. I guess it's most likely a blister technically. Ow :(

Tony seems a little hot under the collar sometimes, no?

Ha, yeah, but I get a kick out of it.

Honestly I have a hard time during the Kempo vid because he doesn't get on that guy Wesley for half assing his way through it. Video is easy after the first few tries and that guy sucks worse than porn face girl in the chest and back vid.

So Tony get on your people more!

Dude, I totally agree — it annoys me to no end during blocks, vertical punches, etc. when Wesley is basically standing straight up. I don't know why it bugs me so much. Watching the making-of videos made me gain a bit of respect back for him, but he's such a sack of crap in Kenpo X.

Hilariously he's the guy that introduced Tony to Kenpo.

So duders, wish me luck. I weighed myself today for the first time in a looooooooooong time and I'm pretty shocked to see that I dropped like 10 pounds already doing P90X2. Problem is though that I don't want to lose weight; I want to gain it.

So starting Monday I'm gonna eat like there's no tomorrow. I'm still gonna focus on healthy stuff (like beans, fruits and vegetables), but I'm gonna try to increase my protein and carbs intake as much as possible. I'm kinda scared that this will turn into undesired fat, but I have to take the risk.

Right now I'm 6'2 and my weight is 171 pounds, so my goal is to gain from 20 to 30 pounds somehow. It's gonna be though, but I'll do my best.

Not sure if this relates, but I was actually just on Youtube last night looking for videos of Tony talking about his diet. Every one that I found had the same theme: he doesn't count calories, he just eats health (like what you mention), and staying consistent with diet and exercise (which you already are doing)

Can't you up your milk intake?

Yeah, I plan to do that. I'm reading now that whole milk seems to be a great option for bulking, so I'm gonna switch to that (I've been drinking only 2 portions of 2% or skim milk for like a year).

Now...I don't need to lose more weight either, but I need to lose body fat for abs. What do you recommend?

So about the equipment in the OP, the pull up bar doesn't seem compatible with my doors.
In the various videos, the walls are much thinner, so i'm wondering before i buy it, if that's gonna work on more thicker ones.
Or maybe there are alternatives?

I did it! I survived the 90 days of p90x, and I have to admit i've enjoyed the hell out of it!! I can't believe how fast the program went by. I've lost 8kg (not a lot, I admit), but looking back at my Day 1 pictures makes me realize how much fat I have lost everywhere (belly, back, neck, etc...). My tshirt size went from L or XL to M now. I also feel a lot stronger now (went from ZERO pull up, to 6-7 now). Feels good man!
But really, the real change that happened for me was in my head i think. Before I started this, my plan was just to do 1 cycle of p90x to lose weight, and then go back to doing no exercise. Now, I can't imagine my life without exercise anymore! It's fun and addictive and it feels so good after a workout lol.
So i'm ready to do more now. The P90X2 bluray just arrived in the mail today, I just need to get the medicine/stability balls on amazon. I CANNOT WAIT to start it this weekend :) I'm gonna try to go back in the thread and try to find all the advices some of you posted about P90x2.

I really want to try this but I am so weary about the costs. I am already fit, but I want to lose just a bit of body fat and tone a bit. I certainly don't want to get ripped. Should I just get Power 90?

Could you clarify what you mean by costs?

I think a 12-15 rep classic schedule P90X is right for you rather than P90.

Well, the cost to buy P90X and the minimum equipment required is at least double that of P90 (which even comes with a resistance band). Still, that's not really a great reason to buy one over the other. If you are already in shape, P90 probably isn't the best choice, even though it is a great program. P90X is really a long term investment; you can use it and the equipment for years to come. It's worth it!

Hawkian

True, and I'm not sure but my instincts tell me it requires a substantially larger time commitment than P90, right?

Btw, to all P90X/Diablo III players. LaneDS and I have decided on universal rules regardless of difficulty:
Upon death, do 5 pull-ups or 10 push-ups.
Don't wear yourself out for the real day's workout though ;)

Yeah, it's not really a deal breaker but anything beyond the 100 mark makes me think twice about an investment. I can afford it, but the P90 workout seemed like a good alternative if your not aiming for massive muscle increase.

Edit: AND I am afraid I wont manage to fit P90X into my schedule.

Oh man I just watched "how to bring it again" and am I sooo hyped now! First of all, the nerd of me just looooove the 1080p vids on the bluray. I know there isn't that much time to watch the screen during the workouts, but still :) Also, Tony looks so good, can't believe he's past 50 y.o. !!

If you're not wanting any additional equipment and want shorter workouts, then Insanity may be what you want. I did P90X first and I'm on Insanity now. You don't need any equipment for Insanity. I've had better results with it as well, but YMMV.

Insanity fitness test done last night. A few of the moves I could tell were a bit easier because of P90X2, especially the move in sphinx or plank position. Although my numbers were still quite a bit lower than the people in the video. :p

Gotta start somewhere.

Today I learned on Wikipedia:

Tony = Anthony Sawyer Horton, Jr.

He personally trained Usher and Billy Idol, the latter of which nicknamed him "Muscle Confucius."

Dreya considers herself to be omnisexual. Nice.

Women wearing too much makeup is an epidemic. I watch Survior and most of the women on the show look better on the island than off. She looks 100x better in Yoga X2 with very subtle makeup.
Agreed 101%

Reminds me of Colleen in the first season before she got all insanely sick and skinny. Just ludicrously naturally cute.

Did first workout, Back and push ups....

holy moly was that hard. I can do about half the push ups they can do, and chin ups I do like 3-4 lol. Rome wasn't built in a day I guess?

Would it be better to do Lean for the first 30 days instead of classic if my intentions are more in line with losing a bit of fat and defining the muscle already there, as opposed to gaining muscles on my arms :p?

Does "Lean" still focus on abs and toning upper body without building huge mass?

I know its more meant for women (at least impression i got) but Im not in this to become a super arnold, just lean up, get 6 pack, and define those sexy guns.

And btw, this thread is amazing, and reading all your tips/feedback gives me inspiration. (Harry Potter you are amazing to listen to)
Hopefully Ill have some good photos after first month? heh... if i feel up to it ill post.
No offence but how sexy can your guns really be if you can only do half the push ups they do and only 3/4 pullups? :p Like most others are saying, go with classic.

Hah, that was more of a suggestion than a rule... if I was following that, good lord, I wouldn't be able to do any of my P90X workouts- my wizard has died a great many times.

(I totally forgot to check what my tag was, but added Hawkian and HP)

Does anyone have any experience with lasting chest discomfort after putting on a lot of muscle in the chest? I have myself convinced it isn't a heart or lung problem because it's been present for over two weeks depending on how I move, but it's really an odd and disconcerting feeling. After getting my appendix taken out recently, I really don't want to see anymore doctors if it can be helped.

Plyo tonight; going to buy some knee braces beforehand to see if it helps my popping left knee joint. P90X- it'll make your body awesome, but it'll also fuck you up too!

DIE LESS :p

It's okay, the rule has built in that you shouldn't over-exert yourself for your workouts. I've got no problems with an excuse to do some extra strength exercises and/or incentivize staying alive in D3

Regarding your chest pain, is it usually present during and after your workouts or all the time? Does it hurt more when you breathe deeply?

what day is everyone at??

im on day 61
Starting week three today.

Memorial day is coming. The extended weekend is dark and full of calories.
Going to be a lazy weekend for me aside from scheduled workouts, but I don't really pig out much anymore. Might get wild and crazy and might have a second cheat day this week though, woo! I have been inexplicably tired the past two days though, so I'm already looking forward to sleeping a bunch.

Someone asked a little bit up, but does anyone know the magic combination to lose body fat, but not weight? Right now I'm 6'0 and sitting at 180lbs. In my mind I really like this weight, but my body fat this morning was 14.9%. Right now I'm around 1800 calories a day while doing p90x. Should I stick with those cals and keep eating a shitload of protein? I'm afraid I'm going to start looking like a stick man if I go below 180.
