Count me in, everyone, for P90X!

I am getting to end of Power 90 and it's getting a little bit too easy. I was worried about the door frame but I bought the Iron Gym pull up bar and the door hasn't collapsed yet. I was worried about the sound but I will just do as much as I can, not to mention I am getting a mat for it, so I think it will even dim the sound more.

I'm almost done with p90 but I'm going to stop and start p90x right away when I get it

Should I get the resistance bands as listed in the OP? I went through P90 using the resistance band and I will say I like weights better, but I don' t know how intensive the movements are.

But OP, thank you and everyone who contributed it, really informational and helped me making purchases between Target/Amazon/Beachbody. Really helpful

Thanks for the compliments!

As for bands, when I did my one run-through of P90X I used bands and liked them well enough (especially for pull-ups that I couldn't do). I would suggest some dumbbells though for curls, etc. I found that you can really mix and match bands and dumbbells according to what you feel you get more out of per exercise. Some exercises I'd use bands and feel more, some I'd use dumbbells.

Any general tips? I have little idea what to expect. I'm just going to do as much as I can. Not miss a day. I'm unsure about the diet plan only because I think i have it pretty good and will incorporate some of the plan. But again, what to expect?

Also, it turns out Yoga day is the day I have work + school all day. Doable?

I don't know your end goals, but diet is extremely important.

As said above diet is important (even though I didn't watch mine at all during P90X and lost 20 lbs, I am watching it now though for P90X2).

You need to have an hour to an hour and a half (yoga) each day to do the workouts, so make sure you do so you don't skip any.

My main tip is do as much as you can. The first day you may not be able to do barely anything and may start wondering why you're even doing it, but you'll get way better. Working out 6 days a week and just doing the basics and as much of the workout you can is far better than not doing anything, or even some basic 3 day per week workouts.

Well I don't have the booklet yet so I don't have anything specific to go by. When you guys say diet, you mean try to follow the plan as closely as possible? I figure I'd be safe for the following

Breakfast: Kashi Go Lean original
Snack: Cliff Bar
Lunch: 2 wheat bread with turkey and honey ham
Snack: apple
Dinner: cabbage + carrots + corn + tofu

Again, everything will probably make more sense once I start. I thought I'd just throw it out there. Thanks to everyone

When I say "diet" I don't mean diet in a traditional "thing you do to lose weight then stop doing it" sense, I mean way of eating basically.

I don't follow the P90X nutrition plan. I suppose you could, but I never wanted to have to find all the stuff they want you to have. Just make an eating plan based on healthy foods that you have available and stick by that. Have a cheat meal once or twice a week to keep yourself going strong and you'll be fine.

I try to limit my carbs, eat more meats, and cut out bad food with a lot of sugars or junk basically.

Educate me. Eat more meat because of protein?

There are far better people than I to educate you on eating well, as I am learning too. If Rubx is around he's a great resource.

Yes, meant because of protein, and that it is a lot healthier than eating a ton of pasta like I used to. I stick to things like eggs, meats, veggies, and a bit of fruit.

If you want tips on eating go into the weight loss thread too, it has a ton of helpful people.

That diet seems suspiciously low in calories. Be careful with that.

You gotta make sure you are eating properly, otherwise your results will not be very good.

Do NOT under-eat. If you think you can sustain that diet plan forever, then by all means. But if you can't, you're just going to end up back here starting another round after you gain what you've lost back. I suggest following the calorie intake suggestions in the nutrition booklet or close to it. I dropped 200 calories from the suggested and it works for me and that's to try and lose a little weight. Once I've reached my goal weight, I'll add 400 to 500 calories back. And my current caloric intake is sustainable. That is the MOST important thing. P90X isn't something to do for 90 days to see what kind of results you can get and then forget about it. This is a lifestyle change. Plan for the long term, not just for the duration of a round of the program.

You're going to feel extremely low on energy and sick if you attempt to eat this on a regular basis. That's like 1000 calories. 2000 calories is a good amount (for an average sized male), particularly if you're working your hardest through P90X workouts (i.e. Plyometrics being done full tilt can bust like 600). You need a small deficit in calories, not a massive one.

Thanks everyone. I definitely think it will be adjusted as I progress. That "diet" is more than enough right now for p90 and it came about naturally, as I wasn't really doing calories counting and just wanted to substitute with what I like to eat, and im aware p90x is a totally different animal. Your advice is heeded because coming from p90 I know it's important to eat in order to keep going day after day.

Any suggestion to what can be added? I usually throw in 2 eggs, or 2 chicken breast, or a shit load of shrimp/scallops

You should be adding a lot more protein to your meals. Syntha protein powder is pretty cheap right now on Amazon ($25), and it tastes delicious. I'd also recommend to add tunas on water, since they pack a good amount of protein and very low fat, and feta cheese (no fat, and it tastes almost as good as regular cheese).

You also need healthy fats like avocados, peanut butter (organic) and the fat from some fishes like sardines.

Good call on feta and advocado. Now, can't I just drink milk instead consuming the protein powder? I'm not familiar with the latter

Milk is good (skim or very low fat milk) that is, but you could be adding an extra 20 grams of protein by adding a scoop of protein, for a total of 32g of protein goodness.

Once you start having protein shakes, there's no going back. It's like having a dessert, except is good for you!

Wait, I've never actually looked at the back of feta cheese, it has no fat? Awesome. I always held off on cheese due to fat, but I love cheese. Going to make some Greek salads I think...

Agreed. I used to have two servings of cereal for breakfast. Now that I started P90X2, I modified it to a serving of cereal followed by a protein shake. Delicious and more filling. Thinking about swapping out cereal for two eggs, but the fat content has kept me away. Perhaps egg whites are the way to go?

And I just add like one or two scoop to my milk?

Yeah, I highly recommend a BlenderBottle to go with it. I had an unused gravy bottle mixer which I use for protein shakes now. One scoop + 8 oz = win. I recommend Cookies & Cream, it's delicious, or Chocolate Peanut Butter, it's thicker and, to me, more like a desert.

Yeah, I got feta cheese from Trader Joe's and it had 0 fat and like 14g of protein IIRC. It's a godsend since I was sick of cottage.

And Beautiful Memory, yep, that's the protein. Get the creams and cookie flavor. It's a party in your mouth.

I read this somewhere, and thought it was a great idea. Use a full egg, so you can get the nutrients from the yolk, but also add the whites that you can buy separately to make scrambled eggs.

I even tried a protein shake that was only whites and protein and it was very good.

Done. To be precise, do I just use any spoon or is it better if I buy specific teaspoon or tablespoon or whatnots

The protein comes with a big spoon inside.

About 1/3 of that spoon represent 1 portion of protein per day (you'll understand this better once you get the P90x nutrition guide and calculate your caloric needs to see where you are at).

On my 2nd round and 2nd week of P90x and damn at everyone following a diet plan now. I def need to go on one myself though I can't cook for shit.

It's too time consuming. I just end up paying a shitload to get stuff made for me =/ I'm still the only person I know that eats cans of tuna right out of the can (although it's too expensive and bla bla bla mercury)

Yeah that's the main thing I'm worried bout. I attempted to follow a loose plan last year and I got decent results at the end. Really gotta force myself to learn how to cook or get someone to teach me. Also I lost a decent amount of fat on my stomach and I def went down in waist size since my 32x30 pants don't fit me properly anymore unless I put my belt to the last notch lol.

More help needed. I go to school at night Monday and Wednesday. I am wanting to start p90x tomorrow so the Wedbesday can be an off day, but Monday will be yoga and I have heard horror stories about it. Should I reconsider or just do it?

For anybody's first time out with Yoga especially Yoga X, it's going to be rough. But give it a shot and you'll get better with repetition. Believe me, it was a hard struggle my first time, couldn't make it all the way through. You can do it, and you'll feel great afterwards!

just started doing this today to get fit when I go Navy.

upper chest just killed me. Also. I need a pull up bars. Should have bought one when I was at walmart

That reminds me, I've got to find an alternative to the standard type of door pull up bar linked here. My door frame lip isn't nearly big enough and started to splinter the second I tried it. I guess I'll have to get something I can screw into the frame and then repair / hide it every time the letting agency comes for a visit. =/

Second week in and Plyocide really knocked me on my ass today. Set sprint plank plyo jump is one of the hardest cardio moves I've ever done.

Get resistance bands. I hear they work the same areas.

I've been looking at those but I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to have exactly the same problem with a door anchor. I need to get hold of one and try it, but it's going to be such a pain if it doesn't work.

Throwing my hat in the ring as well. Started P90X last week, I'm halfway through week 2. Yoga X is up next, any suggestions to make it a little more bearable? I was an awkward mess the first go around.

For background I was a gym 2-3 times a week type of guy so this is a big change of pace. Loving it so far, hoping to get leaner and drop approximately 10 - 15 lbs after the 90 days.

For yoga, when it's time to do chaturangas, do cobra (knees touching the floor) instead of upward dog. Also skip the pushup in between. As you become used to how everything flows, you'll be able to do the moves like the guys on the DVD.

Yoga is all about a burning sensation in your limbs. Tony recommends to straighten the legs if you feel tired; do it if you are.

After looking around a bit more I reckon I'm going to go for these:

Bodylastics "Strongman" Stackable Resistance Bands System

Not cheap, but I've seen them recommended in a few places as one of the highest quality sets you can get.

I'm a fan of Bodylastics. Just remember that you can combine bands to get more tension. When I'm burned out on the pull-up bar, I combine the blue and black bands and that gives a fair amount of tension for simulated pull-ups.

The normal workouts are going fine but holy hell, I cannot do ab ripper x for the life of me. I got 5 minutes into ARX after my shoulders & arms workout and was done.

Protip: Do ARX before the main workout.

It will make a huge difference.

And if you insist on doing it after, wait about 10 minutes after the main work out and start. But, yeah, as Bertram said, do that ish before. Work on them abs son!

Cool.

I've just realised that the door I'll be using opens the wrong way which means I either risk the door flying open and the cable taking me out, or I'll be exercising out in the hall (and getting cold). Tempted to put catches on the door frame to catch it if it opens when it's in use. :D

just started p90x again after couple months off. HOly hell chest and back i nearly spewed and couldn't do ARX..

also, thread title annoys.Never ONCE have I heard 'german' pronounced 'gahman'

it just doesn't occur.

interesting idea. Unsure if I would be able to do a single pullup with sore abs though?

Are there any decent fat burning supplements out there, and if so, are they any good? Any side effects etc?

Should probably try the other thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431741

(As far as I am aware it's only really CLA that's been scientifically proven. Though chilli / guarana will help by boosting your metabolism.)
