the radio edits don't really bother me as I can use the stuff I discover on this station and expand from there without it being a problem (on other stations or playlists for example). i can appreciate it honestly because this allows the station to reach a wider audience and that's a good thing.

After a day, if you'd have told me I'd have listened more to Beats 1 than my own music, I'd have thought you were crazy. This, at least on day one, is the real gem of this service. Just fantastic all around. DJs, song selection, variety, this station has it all.

It can only get better. Tnink about that. We fell in love with this on the first day it launched. They have more shows and unique content planned.

Beats 1 is my new favorite thing.

Wish the URL said itsradioontheinternet.apple.com/ etc.

Ok, after listening to Let me Ride I agree there should be an uncensored stream. Lock it behind a paywall for all i care, I'd rather listen to that

Yeah, jesus. That was the most jarring thing I've heard in a long time.

edit: wow, une chanson francais

Wolf Alice and Royal Blood are the two big ones for me I got into.

I a bit sad I missed the St Vincent thing, because it sounds like it was super fun.

I love that Royal Blood got exposure from this thing. Quickly became one of my favorite bands of all time, I wish them all the success in the world

Plus they put on a HELL of a live show

It's definitely filling a big gap in the market. Eclectic station playing a very-well curated playlist of excellent music for you to discover. Great mix of stuff from musicians you've never heard of, new songs from familiar people, plus some classics.

It's kind of surprising, but nobody's really made a station with the goal to sell new music to listeners. Sirius/XM should have a station like this but most everything is pigeonholed into its niche station. Same with most of the curated stations on other streaming services. Radio stations are gunning for ratings in their markets. Something like Pandora seems to choke and just will rotate through groups of songs based off another song you liked. Music blogs or something like "All Songs Considered" seem to be a bit too focused on what came out the week before.

Heard a lot today that BBC Radio 1 is kinda like this, but Beats 1 seems to be less beholden to playing what people want to hear.

We'll have to see how things develop. Hopefully with the main DJs only having 2 hour shows they can keep it fresh.

6 music then. Seriously, those of you blown away by this stuff, try BBC Radio. Six music + radio 1 evenings + radio 1 extra are three radio stations that are a great combination and available globally.

how do you find previous sessions? Do they repeat or put the songs up somewhere? I'd like to listen to that 80's playlist.

9/10, really surprised how good it is but loses a point for censorship, should probably even lose more just to hammer it home to the family friendly squad at Apple that you do NOT censor music if you want to be taken seriously.

When does live programming start again?

Is it ever running "live"? I was under the impression that it's always pre-recorded, just playing on a loop that repeats every 12 hours

Is it 12 hours? To be honest I'm not positive how this whole thing works

Appropriate track for kicking off in NY!

Edit: And now some Nas? Ooooof, liking this set.

Is there a way to listen to previous shows at all, in iTunes or in app? It's either not possible or I'm lost in the UI...

Not yet although they suggested that shows would be available on-demand at some point. Zane Lowe's show yesterday had a playlist of the tracks he played.

I we have a moment of recognition for how good the DJs are on B1, I already knew Zane was of a high calibre from his BBC radio 1 days but Julie and Ebro have been pleasant suprises.

The music selection has been suburb, I've found like 6 new artists to listen to already!!!

GG Apple
