Not too many French-speaking Belgians in here (well, the tone of the OP didn't really help them feel welcome in here...).

PS : sorry for not making a Dutch version, but even though I do understand the language, it is too hard for me to make correct sentences in it, my apologies !
joe wand shit of maauws? :')
Most of us have that problem with French. :lol
(That right? My French is totally not up to standard.)
So guys, I may have to move to Belgium (Antwerpen) in a couple of months to work there from spain. How it's life there? Its there a good night life? Does it really rains the 75% of the time?
How is housing there? cheap/expensive? And it's life expensive? Any special laws I should be aware of? (I know about the 50% tax, yuck!) What are the social benefits of belgium?
Cheers!
Nightlife is OK, lots of diferent types of bars, pubs and clubs which are open till the early hours and I you're in Antwerp you'll have a wide range to chose from. It's a 'happening' city with also lots of shops and culture. Not too bad a place, you could do a lot worse
Yeah, it rains quite often here but certainly not 75% of the time. Depends really, sometimes it rains day after day and then it can be dry for weeks. Most rain is in the autumn (november sucks!) and the spring. It will be a lot cooler here though than in Spain and it also gets quite windy here.
Housing prices have skyrocketed in the last 20 years to an average of 220K for a standard house but you'll probably rent something ? Expect to pay around 700 EUR/ month for something decent in the Antwerp region.
Life costs are around the same as in Spain I think though perhaps groceries are more expensive. Internet is also expensive here compared to abroad.
Social benefits here are second to none ! Belgium is a socialist haven. First class health care and education cost very little and you have social housing programs, job programs etc etc.. You have to try really hard to end up as a bum here
A big diference with Spain that annoys me is how little the people here are 'nocturnal' and how little sense of community there is.
Cocooning is our national sport and many people here don't leave there house anymore after 6pm after coming home from work.
In Spain the street and squares are full of people every evening but in Belgium you'll find them deserted except on summer evenings. Most shops here also close at 6pm so that might have something to do with it.
You might miss that from your home country.
It is changing though, since a year the local Carrfours in Leuven/Heverlee started closing down at 20.00 and 21.00 on Friday.

Many people speak English, I think we have one of the higher proficiency ratings in the world. We're 13th on the list, if my Google-fu is accurate. What about language? I know here in Spain, it's difficult for outside people to make any conversation as not a lot of people know english, or know it at conversation level. Will I have any issues communicating with people or it's like the nordic countries where everybody knows english?
I have zero kwonledge of the local language so it would be quite difficult. I guess I should start learning it
Plans for tonight?
Plans for tonight?
Get drunk in Bruges, and hope I don't get arrested for it.
You're in luck, my dad doesn't work tonight (he's a cop).
So, Belgium-Gaf, I'm in Brussels from now until about 20.00, what shouldn't I miss (in central Brussels)?
By the way, how is the best Belgian band ever not mentioned in the OP Belgium Gaf? Tssk!
Ellis Burger is legit good? Passed by there the other day and was interested in checking it out. Any recommendations?
