The GOP gives no fucks and they shoveled that false narrative to their supporters for years culminating into "lock her up" which pretty much was a Trump checkbox win.

Entire GOP is awful. Not hyperbolic at this point, they really are just awful people doing awful things.

Okay, Democrats. What have we learned here today?

Go after the Trump/Russia ties- Don't stop, even if nothing is there. Hold committee after committee... For 4 years.

Because even if it isn't true, the seed of untrustworthiness has already been planted.

2 wrongs dont make a right....

So, could someone explain to me what exactly the whole situation with Benghazi is/was? Either that, or post a link that sufficiently explains it. A couple of conservative friends were trying to tell me that Hillary was a murderer because of it (and hence why they voted Trump), and not knowing really anything about it, I wasn't able to refute them.

Your friends are morons that listen to too much conspiracy theorists. Or, they're already Republican leaning, and are looking for rationalizations of why they should vote for a repeat sexual assailant.

A US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked by insurgents/terrorists, killing four US citizens, including the ambassador.

Anything beyond that to place blame on Hillary is kind of BS, and an insane double-standard compared to the dozen+ other embassy attacks in recent history.

I would like a good source covering this as well. I've forgotten most of what was covered at the time.

Edit: Actual source, not a brief user summary.

Same will happen with pretty much every other "concern" raised about her. Especially her "Paid speeches to Wall Street!!!" while Trump appoints the head of Goldman-Sachs to a major position and they say nothing.

Basically the US Embassy to Libya was attacked on the anniversary of 9/11, and there were conflicting reports when it initially happened as to whether it was a coordinated assault or a sad escalation of violence from protesters around the compound.

The situation that grew out of that was questions regarding whether or not Clinton knew that the embassy was a terrorist target and willfully denied the ambassador additional security, which has been disproven over and over again, but because the investigation kept going on for years they were able to keep it in the headlines and forward a narrative that Clinton was complicit in the deaths because *obviously* she had to know something was up.

At least that's my understanding of the subject.

The wikipedia entry I linked above on this is pretty detailed and has a lot of citations you can follow for secondary sources on the subject.

Edit: I believe somewhere along the line in one of these investigations the committee FOIA'd the State Department for Clinton's emails to see what she knew, and that was the first time the general public learned that she had a private email server in the first place.

Donald Trump stood on a fucking stage in the past week doing his victory tour BS.

The crowd started chanting "lock her up".

His exact words were "forget about that". "That played well before the election".

Of course the investigation is going to die.

America is such a fucking dumbass I can't get over it.

Benghazi was some real fucked up shit and Hillary is partly responsibile as Secretary of State - but she acted in good faith and did not deserve the smear job she received.

Republicans made it sound like she ordered a hit on Chris Stevens.

going to be pretty awkward if an embassy gets attacked under Trump

Embassies always get attacked. Benghazi was slightly more successful than most, but there's no good reason for it to have received the scrutiny it did.

New York City was attacked under Bush's watch killing 3000 people and the country came together, giving him a second term. Benghazi was attacked under Obama's killing 4 and the right didn't let up on the blame game until Clinton was defeated.

Damage successfully done republicans, congrats on your victory

I just feel bad for the victims families who were played like pawns
I'll feel bad for them if they actually speak up about this. Otherwise, fuck them too for going along with it knowing it was all complete bullshit.

There's definitely reason for Benghazi to stand out among the rest, though. The problem is both sides were to blame (as well as the risk-averse senior pol-mil leadership) and making changes to our crippling bureaucracy doesn't fit the narrative.

Our intelligence community is so bad, I told them to tell me if something new was happening and all they do is say day after day this place is under threat and this place and this place. Give me a break. The only way to get rid of the threat is to get rid of Islam.

-Donald Trump following the first attack on an US embassy.

The lesson here is that political parties should not publicly anoint someone their Presidential nominee eight years out as it gives opposition all the time in the world to run a smear campaign.

The smear campaign against Hillary goes way, way beyond 8 years. She's been a GOP boogeyman in one form or another for ages.

Come from a rural town of 1500 people and the guy down the street from us flies a Confederate flag. It's both.

OK, so it's been proven she didn't know about the attack. Got it. Thanks!
