Does this anime pick up where the 90s anime left off?

Im pretty much never gonna read the manga as its not available in digital so the anime is the only way I'll be able to to consume some Berserk.

Basically but it cuts out a ton of stuff and jumbles a bunch of other things together.

It does, but the 90s anime left out some stuff at the end, the movies connect with the new anime much better.

It cuts out some arcs, but yeah. It essentially is.

Looks like Casca also might be dark again (maybe complaints were heard?).

Yes.

There's some very slight chronological mushiness regarding the first episode of the 90s anime and the first episode of this, as well as the epilogue of the movies, but generally this starts right after Guts recovers from the eclipse.

Haven't watched consistently but have any characters been removed. They seem to be working at a fast rate and can see a few female characters having less screen time.

But I hear the movies are absolute garbage tho...

That's not true at all. The movies great and are just an abridged version of the 1997 anime. (Aside from the gorgeous visuals)The one up that the movies have over the 1997 anime is that it has a better ending, and just doesn't end abruptly like the series does.

Maybe, but Casca still looked white as can be in Charlotte's memory. I want to believe this has all been a terrible mistake thanks to nonsensical lighting effects, but the best I can muster is highly cautious optimism.

Anyways, episode in general was not very good. The hounds and the Apostle both looked more goofy than menacing. A part of me is still stunned they included rape-horse.

I'd say this was a downgrade from episode 2 but better than episode 1.

They went there. Color me fucking surprised.

The episode was a mess. Episode 1 levels of mess considering the crazy amount of story we have here. We have Midland, we have Kushan, we have dream, we have Apostles battles, we have Apostle backstories, we have Farnese possessed. In 20 minutes (!) A hot mess.

The guys from the flashbacks seem to have worked in a couple of scenes. Honestly, it's not cgi and it's still ugly as fuck.

I'm dropping this before I go insane.

My God this looks awful, much worse then ep.1.

Yep, I think I'm not gonna bother with the rest until I have finished the conviction arc in the manga. I'll be taking shelter in the other OT for while >_>

Just pointing out this is a "sequel" or second season to the movies and original 90's anime series though its production isn't related to that of course. I'd rather this rather unpleasant reception either kills this "series" off and we wait for a more competent one in a few years.

I've waited long enough to see what happens next... I don't want to wait 10 more years for someone to try this again. I want to spend the next X years watching Berserk.

FFS I knew she was never light in the first place and it was just a colorized flash-back... people blew that WAY out of proportion...

.

Then go read the manga if you want to know what happens next, cause this anime won't cover everything and it's also a bad adaption to begin with.

If I wanted to read the manga, I'd invest in that and read the manga.

I want to watch an anime.

That apostle design, rape horse, Dragonslayer making gong noises when slicing ghosts ... I can't.

And Farnese suddenly has nipples in the horse rape scene. And it's also the most well animated scene of the episode. Because of course.

I think this is the worst episode so far.

Damn

I'm not gonna watch it, because I'm done and kinda spoiled by Jojo(thanx to everyone here for recommending it)

knowing that it's the worst episode makes me even more sad.

haha that bloodborne editing

makes me want a From Berserk game even more.

But what is the larger story? In the manga currently it's Guts and group going to elf-land while Griffith has monster battles with pretty much everyone else.

I say larger story, but I mean the characters.

In the beginning of the manga, before we even got to the Golden Age arc, we had Guts as the Blackswordsman going thru 1.5-2 arcs ending with
a mini-eclipse.

They skipped all of that to focus more on Guts's journey
to reconnect with people and the group of characters he would eventually call allies.

Unfortunately, because we don't have any real time with Guts on his own (with Puck) after the eclipse and none of the movie for context [to show just how far he's fallen],
his realization of what he has lost and regained
will fall flat.
Unless they work these flashbacks in like an editing storytelling genius.

What about Puck "do it like usual" line....what? She just met him two days ago. What usual? Yes they have an history of an year but they didn't showed that did they?

And the Apostle chit chat with Guts while he was stuck in his mouth? LOL.

Ok, so say I want to read the manga...

Are there any good scanlations available? Or is the only option to get it in print?

Lol the demon horse was creepy as hell in the manga, but I laughed and facepalmed at the same time while watching him in this episode.

LOL i have not read the manga and this post totally reminds me of bloodborne Ludwig haha. Like it's seriously on point with the face and the greatsword.

This is a fan made and yeah that's Ludwig and his moonlight holyblade

the original is almost identical though and more explicit.

Dark Horse is finally doing a serious reprint but online there are ton's and ton's of scantalations for Berserk though I won't link any of them here. The series has been running for 3 decades. Beware a lot of the scans have atrocious translations. You can tell pretty quickly when they name people stuff like Guttsu or Gatts.

Nope.
Skipped over Asshole on the outside Guts arc.

Also near the end of The Golden Arc, some chapters are out of order in the scanalation. So you will be reading the buildup to an event/story, then read the aftermath, then all of a sudden your in the climax of it.

Try to find the Dark horse translation/books, but if you can't have a chapter guide handy, so when things do go sideways you can at least search specifically for the correct chapter.

When this was announced, I was excited to see Guts ruining the lives of children one village at a time.

I'd laugh if they cut out huge sections of the manga just to focus on Troll Rape in the next version of this series. Well animated troll rape at that.

Even though it was slow, it was still a decent look into the world and Guts at his darkest (emotion wise).

With some good directing they could have refined what was there to really sell the tone and look of the show.

sigh

Fuck it, I'll just get print then. Sigh.

Why couldnt the 90s anime just continue instead of ending after one season.....That's legitimately in my top 3 animes of all time.
