These last few pages lmao. I agree with a lot of the criticism, but the flaws don't bother me as much as they do some of you guys. The animation is ass, the art is ass etc etc, all of that is true but it's still enjoyable for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The story's pretty interesting and since I don't really have any intention of reading the manga I'll take what I can get.

I really enjoyed the last episode. The animation still sticks but this is getting good!

Also good to see casca wasn't whitewashed....

Did you at least watch the movies for context?

I've seen the series that aired in the 90s. I have an interest in the series, but I don't want to invest that much time reading the manga when it seems to be on hiatus a lot. If it ever finishes I'll probably pick it up then.

It hurts knowing my favorite arc in Beserk, arguably in any manga, is about to be adapted by this shitshow. At this point I would've rather them have done the rest of the series in movies. At least they had the budget to pull off CGI.

Hmm, I haven't seen any Vita shots of the Beserk Musou yet, but this looks underwhelming. They can do much better graphically on the system.

I'm actually surprised that they kept that scene in, just last week I was saying how I thought they were gonna remove it, I mean, it is censored but at least they kept it.

I was just wondering if you saw the Golden Age arc.

You saw the superior version, even though they cut/removed key characters.

Man, this episode proved once again that Japanese studios are shit at doing CGI on a budget. It's either ultra-grandiose high-priced stuff or bottom-barrel Dreamcast level.

Ultramarines, made in 2009-2010 on a shoestring budget - of which most went into Terrence Stamp, John Hurt and Sean Pertwee's paychecks - has better CGI than this.

In the preview for next episode did they make Casca dark skinned again or was I imagining things?
She does look darker-skinned in the preview for next week's episode, though she was still bone white in Charlotte's memory. I'd like to think that the teaser image is legit and that the other instances were just really poorly done lighting effects.

....I thought when you guys said it used CG it was just background assets and stuff like that. I didnt know 99% of everything in this show is CG! It's pretty much a 3D anime. Except it does it worse than a game like Guilty Gear Xrd would.

Not only that but it has by far the worst animation I've ever seen in a show period. Anime or not. And the art......It's so bad....Guts seems to change in size from being extremely skinny one second to buff the next.

Luckily the story itself is still Berserk, so it's interesting enough that I want to keep watching, but holy shit is the production of this show atrocious. You guys werent lying and I went into this with low expectations based on all the responses in here.

I'm still enjoying it despite the many faults because it's Berserk and even the worst adaptation of Berserk is still far more interesting story wise then 90% of other anime.

The third episode was pretty cool. They actually kept the horse rape attempt and Farnese posession scenes in... Wow. Honestly, I think they could have done Lost Children arc if they were willing to keep this other stuff in... I wonder if they have explained why they cut it. The apostle's story was kind of cool, but holy fuck did the CG make him look fucking lame or what. That was really bad. If there is one thing this show NEEDS to get right is to do justice to Miura's monster designs. I can't recall this particular apostle so I'm not sure if Miura designed him, but in CG he looked fucking ridiculous. That aside, I liked the scene with Guts and Serpico while the credits rolled on. That was really nice.

Just finished watching the third episode, I've refrained myself from laughing in the first two but now that's too much, I don't even have the strength to do a breakdown of what's wrong this time.

I think this is actually making me feel depressed.

The illustrations during the dream sequence were surprisingly nice. Wish the whole show was like that.

The anime original stuff in this episode was pretty dumb and didn't really add anything. I'm kinda excited for the upcoming stuff though.

It's Berserk, it's like pizza. Even if it's a really crappy interpretation, it can only be so bad.
Gonna double down on this. The animation isn't wonderful, but neither was the original series, and both manage to make the most of the crap budget they are given at times.

The hyperbole to mock the show is fun too though. Lawl C64 grafix and such!

For me big part of enjoying Berserk lie in the fact its probably the most beautiful comic ever

so if its fugly as shit, ain't no way its Berserk.

The most beautifully grusome comic out there.

One thing I do remember being impressed with reading back though is how when drawing horses at one time, he also drew on horse blinders as well. He definitely does plenty of research to put detail into his drawings.

The original series at least had good direction and soundtrack unlike this show, where even the dragonslayer sounds like a gong.

This dog apostle guy,
it's the same guy from the manga where Guts first gets the Dragonslayer to kill him right? I guess they just reworked him.

The whole fight and whatever story they tried to put in this episode was pretty fuckin lame tho

PS2 is a beast

Obviously the anime would look shitty if it looked like those PS2 cutscenes, let's not kid ourselves, but at least:
- the PS2 cutscenes get Guts's skull shape right
- the PS2 cutscenes don't try to use a graphical style that the animators haven't mastered.

The anime would look miles better if the animators knew how to do cel-shading properly. This isn't 2000 anymore, cel-shading by itself won't impress us like it did in Jet Set Radio back in the day. It needs to be good cel-shading.

Also, drop the limited framerate. I know they do this to give it a more "anime" feel because anime isn't animated at 30/60 fps, but a) it doesn't work because 2D animation isn't just a matter of framerate (take your cues from Guilty Gear Xrd, folks), b) what's the point when everything bar the backgrounds is 3D anyway? I'd understand the decision if some elements were animated in 2D, because then you would have 2 different framerates clashing with each other, but everything that's animated is in 3D here. Have everything be animated at 30 or 60 fps and be done with it. It won't be jarring at all.

It's not even like I desperately want the thing to be traditional 2D animation either - the flashback scenes with Griffith aren't that impressive, to be honest. 3D animation can look gorgeous, and 2D can look abysmal.

Berserk's world could work either with a full on stylish cg art style or with a more traditional 2d animation and there are certain scenes that would look better in one or the other.

This show hasn't been entirely 3D animation. Most of the decent looking stuff was 2D animation so far. The flashbacks have been pretty much all 2D, and of course all the illustrations as well.

Even Rape Horse had a 2D animated sequence that they surprisingly put a lot of effort into. Those priorities though.

Face close-ups look phenomenal too.

I'll never understand what goes through their heads. Doing the flashbacks in 2D is clever, as it distinguishes from the current story, but other than that there's no rhyme or reason to what they're doing.

I like the animation, don't the hate. I mean, it ain't changing so might as well and try to accept it. IMO it looks better than the movies, at least the coloring effect looks good with the cg. Has been great so far. Is this gonna be 12 or 24 episodes?

I honestly think the Dragonslayer hitting people just sounds like Guts is hitting them with a frying pan or Ukyo's (from Ranma 1/2) giant spatula.
Number 1 waifu
Her, Farnese and that whore that hangs with Rickert are like my favorite Berserk women. I like Schierke, but she's not exactly old enough yet. I'm not sure if a person would enjoy Slann sex though.
God 1997 had phenomenal drawings and colors
Yeah I'm not sure how people got the nerve to trash talk it. For something lower budget they still made damn sure to put some effort and care into it.

I honestly can't tell if this new Berserk anime is a passion project with no talent behind it or if they're being 100% serious as a creative team.

I think it's a mix of the latter and the result of a low budget. I listened to the interview with the producer and he sounded like he was convinced that a mix of 2D and 3D CGI was the best fit for this project.
