To be fair, it IS a different monster. The monster that appears in this scene in the manga was used in the last episode. This monster chases Casca and Judeau during the Eclipse.

The first anime (2012?) was only ok. Imagine the first Dangan Ronpa murders/investigations/trials without any of the free time events or character building moments. It's a lackluster show that offers absolutely nothing to you if you've already played the game.
Future/ Despair Arc are their own thing. Future Arc so far is like a final act featuring a few returning characters and a bunch of new ones while Despair arc, while having parallels with future arc (so far as they are sister series) is a prequel story that shows how the DR2 cast became the ultimate despairs. These two, unlike the first show, are actually really entertaining and even if you weren't a Dangan Ronpa fan I would still suggest you watch them.

Man, it must suck to become an apostle - but not one of the cool ones, like a fairy girl living out her dreams or a fucking badass like Zodd or any of the headliners in the Neo-Band. The guys who look like weird ass nuggets. They probably sacrificed their wife or mom or some shit and their secret cool form is one or two Super Mario enemies combined with an ostrich. Those poor goofy looking motherfuckers.
We don't really know how it works but I always related an apostles look to both how they were before the sacrifice and what they wanted to accomplish in making the wish.
The Slug Count gave up his wife with for a body that would not feel or be hurt by the world any longer for example and Roshine wanting no doubt to run away and join with the fairies or something along those lines.

Probably one of her dark fantasies is Griff eating her booty like groceries unrestrained
I'm enjoying it still outside ep3 which was real bad. The other eps have been ok. It's not a great adaptation, but it's serviceable and at least they're generally following the source material fairly closely, just way uglier and skipping a lot because it's so condensed.
I mean I'm also watching Preacher and I wish it was as good of an adaptation as Berserk is of the source comic lol. Berserk TV feels like it's made by staffers who really do like the manga, they just aren't particularly good at their jobs and have no money to hire anyone better.

The movies are a condensed retelling of the arc adapted in the 97 anime (the final section of the 3rd movie of Berserk shows the final part of the Eclipse which the series ommited) and this new anime is adapting an arc after it. They are both terrible though.
You should read the manga. From the beginning.

What the 90s anime covers is known as the "Golden Age" arc, but Berserk's story is much longer. There's stuff before and after that was never covered in anime form, until the 2016 anime. Don't ask me any more though, as I've never read the manga.
If you want a bit more closure for the 90s anime, do what I did and watch the 3 OVAs that were released in the 2000s. They retell the same arc, in a more condensed fashion, and the end of the last OVA goes a bit beyond the end-point of the 97 anime. It's much more satisfying in that sense. The 97 anime felt like they were planning a second season and never got to make it.
Speaking of, I've recently rewatched that OVA recently... Man, I know people like to shit on it for all the 3D - including myself -, but even at its worst it still looks better than the new series. Also, some of the art and 2D animation is absolutely gorgeous.

Isn't there a difference between the lesser demons and Apostles? I thought that Apostles needed a Behelit, and some other demons are from that realm.
I believe only apostles were present at the apocalypse but I guess there is no way to confirm that. They'd basically traveled from all over the world to meet there for their own version of demonic combination of Burning Man and Comic Con.

Only thing is at that point in time who didn't want to smash Griffith? Charlotte screams Griffiths name whenever she's in danger so I highly doubt it's much of a hidden secret.

Though in defense of Griffith what he did led on the creating a much more interesting Band of the Falcon for both parties...still doesn't excuse him for Casca though.

And probably end the manga way before Miura. Only way is a time skip where Guts lvls up alot

But Miura got us on a reverse time skips where we wait forever in real time while they stayed on a boat chilling

The 2016 anime doesnt even cover the manga completely.
It left out about 3-4 arcs (split between the stories that took place before and after the introduction of the "Golden Age" arc).
Yeah, this thread and what little I read of the manga made that clear. I'm well aware of it, which is why I'm strongly considering getting the manga anyway. I just hope I can find it in Japanese at a decent price.
