Now what's the next step in your master plan?
On a random note while the new Berserk Musou is looking decent, I think a Berserk fighting game in the vein of Soul Caliber would be bad ass. Speed up the gameplay a bit, increase the battle fields and make them more than simple arenas and focus and Guts, the apostles, Silat, Skull Knight, Azan, Serpico, etc.

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
So wait all the episodes gonna focus on the conviction arc.

Still don't know how they will do that without cutting some major plots.

Next episode will already be halfway through the season and Guts will still
encounter with SK. I assumed the Goat demon would be cut but i was wrong.
I have no idea how they will finish the whole arc in 6 episodes.

It's not just a pack of rats.

It's the plague. The same kind of plague that killed millions.

You can't get rid of the plague by hitting it with a sword.

we talking about the same book? cuz in the one i read, a dude got rid of
FOG
by hitting it with a sword.

That's because it has bathed in the blood of so many astral beings from apostles to ghosts to monster and so on for so long that it has become something far greater than any sword, even a monstrously huge one.

I feel bad saying this but I am getting used to the animation
Given the history this series had, I'd say that's necessary for enjoying any of the animated adaptations. Granted, other than the animation I've tended to love everything else they have brought to the table, even the sound effects that have left Guts' sword sounding like a skillet. They're both large metal objects, of course they sound similar!

What is Gantz and why is it animated better than Berserk?

Gantz is about a dead people being taken to a sealed room where a giant black sphere tells them they will be fighting aliens and gives them weapons to fight and kill the aliens or they die.

I've never read Berserk, but I've watched the golden age movies is the current anime a decent way to get a feel for the series? I'm honestly not interested in reading the manga but I feel like the show might be a good place to get my fill.

As someone who doesn't enjoy reading manga/comics in general...you should read the manga. It's fantastic.

The church bell sound when Guts grabs the DS. Like, I can't get that out of my head. And when he puts it in his back, it sounds like a door being shut. It's like a benny hill sketch, where the sound doesn't match the object.

Humans are known to be able to adapt to harsh environments.

It's still a pretty big feat though.

Yeah same but it's not like I think it's not horrible, cause it is, but you can get used to anything.

I'm used to my 0 key being broken and having to move my hand over to the numpad each time I wanna press a 0, it's annoying as fuck and it drives me nuts, but I'm used to it.

Berserk was like my third manga, it's worth reading the manga cause none of the adaptations are really good adaptations of Berserk.

....I think Im gonna stop watching this show and just stick with the manga. Everything about it other than the fact that its based on Berserk is terrible.

It's not that bad, come on. At least we got an anime adaption, however onto my next point..

Better question is how did a noob studio manage to get rights to a series such as Besrerk?

My thoughts exactly, Berserk is supposed to be the number 1 fantasy manga, why doesn't it get the recognition for it budget and talent wise? This really irks me. I could name (and everyone else in this thread) 3 top studios that would have done it justice. I still think Netflix should grab the rights the second they can and do their own adaption on it, would increase the number of people watching this thing too.

There was this anime called Claymore in 2007. It was more berserk than this, despite not ending on the best terms.

Should be on Hulu and Funimation if you want a quick fix.

I can't watch Berserk every week without noticing something new they messed up. Maybe if the sound was done properly I could...

I actually liked Claymore and it actually got a pretty solid adaptation till Madhouse was like fuck it we're not making this anymore and did an original ending to it. I read the Claymore manga after reading the Berserk manga and holy shit the quality just ain't there by comparison. Berserk makes the artwork in Claymore look like stick figures.

Best part of the episode.

Should I read Gantz?
If you like the death game genre it's the best there is. Some of the biggest highs in manga and the level of detail can get right up there with the best. The conclusion is kind of meh, but people on here overblow it because the writer switched to monthly releases instead of bi weekly (on top of a multitude of delays). Making the final arc seem worse than it actually was due to the wait. There are still some damn good moments in the final arc though. Probably one of the few mangas which have made me feel a sense of dread at some points

What. He made one song for this show. That's it.

Hmm...I guess maybe they are just cuts from said preview's "full" version that'll presumably be a thing in the OST to come then peppered throughout? This week was the first time I noticed them(the signature vocal bits in particular swelling about), brief as they were mind, and actually started to try to pay attention to the music compared to otherwise?

overblown my ass, that final arc was dogshit, Gantz had a great premise/formula going for it and threw it all away.

Random complaint of modern anime: I really dislike how modern anime looks so clean, I'm watching Serial Experiments Lain right now and I love how each frame has some grit to it. I don't know what the technical term for it is, but it's kind of how film has film grain and digital does not.

There's lots of ways for digital to fake the film grain texture, so much so that both can now look indistinguishable, I really wish anime would do something like that. Berserk would especially look better if it had the anime version of film grain.

This show is pure concentrated disappointment. I can't even remember an adaptation of something disappointed me so much. It feels like watching the episode of Game of Thrones where
Barristan
died over and over again. The latest episode didn't even feel finished.

Hardly, there was only one awful part of that arc (tae). The rest was ok and you could tell the author was clearly wanting to move on to a different story(there was probably another 50ish chapters he could have done about the final arc)

What's great is that I feel like the latest episode was by far the most consistent and polished.

The OST can't come out soon enough. I can forgive everything if there's enough shots of Guts dismembering fools to Susumu.

Digital film grain looks so fake and forced, but there could have really taken that crosshatch shading a few steps further into something with a little more flair.

This is also apt to your point.

I really can't speak towards faked anime film grain but for movies, it's possible to get some really great artificial film grain. Episode 8's DP did a test with a method he created where I couldn't begin to tell you which footage is shot in digital and which is film.

If something like this was possible for anime, which I really don't know if it is, but if it was, I wish it would be used more often cus I REALLY miss it.

[edit]

And before anyone misconstrues what I'm saying: No, this isn't a "anime used to look good and now it looks like shit" cus it's not, this is just purely speaking in regards to film grain.

Oops, mea culpa.

In regards to image quality, I agree, and I stand corrected on digital film grain in that example.

I also recently watched Lain recently, and loved how murky it looked. You sort of have to squint your eyes to get around the jpg compression, but if you were going to add post production to a modern digitally colored and composited anime still, you'd have to dig deep for a couple subtle tricks.

I agree. The manga from the 1999s had incredible shading whereas the 2004+ manga have this lifeless shading going on.
