Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So, HStallion, did anything this week catch your eye for a new avatar?

I'm at work so I won't be able to watch it till I get off in a few hours. I actually forgot to change my avatar to the crying Mozgus one last week. I may change it to Nina as even though I haven't seen the current episode I'm sure they... portrayed her well lol

Lost it at the random jpgs of eyeballs and arms and firework sounds that was supposed to imply the heretics chasing joaquim out of the cave and off of the cliff.

:edit:

Oh come on there are six people on screen and five of them are copy paste. Fuck this show.

Wow that looks... awkward even without the CLANG. She is slapping the shit out of her but besides facial reactions Nina's body doesn't even react, like at all. Man that's fucking lame looking.

Totally worth it.

Also that whole scene after the ending with Farnese throwing fire is really funny.

At least make her ass shake or something after getting slapped. It looks like she is slapping a stone statue with how much she reacts.

I am as well.

I get a lot of the criticisms, quite a few of them are extremely valid, but many of the posts I've seen seem like they're searching for things to hate about the show.

I have a feeling that the people who are enjoying the show are people who haven't read the manga and don't realize that the source material shining through the aggressive mediocrity is the only saving grace!

In all fairness, I did stop reading nearly a decade ago.

Given the pace of the releases, I hardly think I could be blamed.

i literally just got finished re-reading Berserk, it's really making the direction and pacing stand out so much more when the panels are so fresh in my mind.

Beforehand I barely remembered anything

They give ample examples. We don't have to search for it. Here's one from the top of my hat:

Before the preview they insert hai yo and when that scene ends they insert hai yo again from the beginning. Can't even continue the song they played seconds ago lol. At least they could have made the transition a bit more smooth, but nope.

You don't need to be an expert to know poop stinks. I'm enjoying it for the trainwreck that it became. It's very fascinating to see what moves people to create this.

No lie, multiple fumbles have been made when producing the show. Hell, I noted that many of the criticisms are valid.

Perhaps I am just thrown off as the original series would not be remembered nearly as fondly if put under the same lens this series has been. Animated Berserk has always been poorly made in comparison to the source material, but the fact that the source is so strong really makes me skeptical of referring to it as a trainwreck.

*Shrug*

I've always been patient with poor animation. It's likely enough that I'm so used to seeing it in so many series that I just don't care.

Nah, the old berserk series still holds up quite a bit. If you kept the same aesthetic and just gave it better animation with more of the manga adapted it would be fantastic. While the old series suffers from poor animation at times, it doesn't suffer from poor shot composition. The frames flow together a hell of a lot better than the new series does. On top of that the old series has far better music and nails the visual tone of the series perfect. The old series just suffers from not adapting the manga 1:1 and a not so great animation budget. It's all on the Director as to why the new series is so bad in so many places besides animation.

But have you seen the 142nd frame in episode 3 tho

Nah, read the manga and despite my disappointment with the animation, I'm still enjoying the show, source is that good. Not only that, other than OPM, this is the only anime I enjoyed enough to keep watching past the first few episodes in past four or so years.

This is nonsense. The 1997 Berserk anime is an attractive show with strong direction, very strong backgrounds, and overall a good sense of style. The 2016 Berserk anime, with some of the worst looking CG I've seen in anime and incredibly clumsy direction, is not fit to tie 1997's shoes.

Not being a 1:1 exact copy of the manga is not a flaw.

My bad, I probably should have said that the 1:1 was mostly about the story. The old adaption cut out story bits/characters which is a bad thing. There are like 1-3 chapters worth of stuff that needs to be cut in a full adaption though, just because miura changed how it wanted things to go and those no longer fit.

^Well, most of the good parts are already taken. I'll just add that anime is a sum of many different elements. To tie those pieces together you need a production with a good direction.

Berserk 2016 has poor direction so these elements stand on their own with barely anything to interact with. Just take a look at the opening to see it doesn't blend well.

It's not normal for an anime to turn out like this, that's why I call it a trainwreck. We can still enjoy it for what it's worth.

For the people involved it's probably a good experience and there's enough room to improve... if they have the abillity.

I say we sacrifice them for a better anime.

It looked so weird when they showed Mozgus doing his prayers, and instead of animating him slamming his face onto the floor, it zooms into his face, and the next frame they zoom out of him laying on the floor

It looped the same frames like 3 times lmao

I'm here to prove that wrong, dont'cha love assumptions?

As someone who only watched the 90s show and never read a single issue/vol of the manga. I was so hyped to see what happens after the original show ended. But this is just mediocre best. The new characters aren't as cool as band of the hawks. The animation to me feels like it's a downgrade from the original even though the original came out almost 20 years ago and probably had a lower budget than this. I am upto episode 3 so far. Man...Only reason I will probably keep watching its to probably to see the ending to the guts vs girfith story. Also helps that Guts is such an amazing character. Also how the heck did guts escape where the original left off. It seemed to me he was dead/about to die. He had 0 chance of escaping when the demons had him pinned down.

Go read the manga, you're doing yourself a disservice by watching this without reading the manga. And actually the new characters are better characters than the Band of the Hawk, the new show just doesn't do them any justice at all. Farnese and Serpico are actually pretty damn good characters.

This anime is covering an arc from the middle of Berserk.

Generally unambitious, plodding episode.

When Caska
realizes she is about to be gang raped again, and is saved by that MYSTERIOUS CREATURE
, you'd think that would be a huge emotional moment to define her post-eclipse character. But instead, it lasts all of five seconds and a significant ethereal character makes their exit via an out of the box after effects filter.

It only hurts because I remember how nightmarish the imagery was for that scene in the comic, and it didn't really play up the horror at all.

Anyway, I know if I was going to slowly go insane of syphilis in that horrible world, I would get my freak on too. Nina had the right idea living it up.

Still excited every Friday though! This'll age better when it's binge-able.
