Fun fact: Americans were the pioneers of console engineering. Wily Japanese came much later.

Channel F was the first system with interchangeable ROM catrdidges. Atari 2600 was the first system to have more than arcade ports. Xbox One X is the most powerful console of all times (currently). In this thread we celebrate American consoles and decide the best one.

Happy 4th of July, America GAF ! 🇺🇲

As a piece of hardware, The Xbox One X is excellent. Quieter, smaller than the PS4 Pro, yet more powerful. A year of difference between the two sure, but also a massively talented team of engineers to build it up. I expect XBox SeX to be just as good if not better.

When it comes to games tho, I prefer either the 360 or the OG Xbox. They represent the Xbox division at its peak.

Honorable mention to the VCS, the gaming landscape changed dimension forever thanks to this machine.

Every proud American should buy new Xbox and not support bolstering foreign (Japanese) economy. They don't want to buy your Xboxes, why should you buy their Playstations?

'MURICA!!!

(Happy 4th of July btw 🎇 )

I grew up with the 2600 but, even after making allowances for its technology according to the times, I still can't get past that joystick controller.

The original XBOX was excellent. Better multiplats than PS2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Ninja Gaiden Black, Halo 2. If it had a few more japanese games it would've gotten the recognition it deserves.

LOL @ the 360 votes. That thing was a piece of shit. I have never owned a piece of consumer electronics in my life as bad as a 360. You look at that thing funny and it breaks. Awesome game library, cool interface, superb controller. Agreed on all three except you know the console kind of needs to work.

I'm insulted that the Soulja Boy console is not on the list. It was influential and revolutionary.

Sony completely copied the white and black design, my boy Soulja boy got robbed.

And yall giving epic shit when we have posts like this 😂

I thought the Atari 2600 was great at the time, it was a true family console. Maybe because the thing was so novel and simple at the time that it hadn't turned off very casual players. The Atari controller had some kind of really unique rubbery smell, I had the parents buy a couple of those over the years, I sniffed the hell out of those things. It was almost as good as colored markers.

That said, burgertime was my favorite game at the time and it looked a lot better on an Intellivision, but I didn't have one of those. I didn't like the Intellivision controller either though, so I'm glad I didn't have one.

I didn't really like the xbox's, Millenial kids back then really turned off my excitement for that thing and I stuck more with the Sony side of things as with most other Gen X people. So my opinion on that isn't too logical.

360 was a beast. R* table tennis and the first PES on 360 were both phenomenal.

Can I do a write in for ATARI JAGUAR please? Alternatively can we mention PC gaming here?
Also... does the 32X count wasnt it produced by Sega America? The Pippin was Japanese technically right, or ?

The 360 is a console that I honeslty loved, but it's also the only one on that list I think is worth owning.

Still, the 360 was bloody awesome, even if my first one did RRoD.

Nintendo is for children and male adults who are flaky. Go post on ResetEra where you really belong.
Lol while i actually agree with that statement minus their third party support which has been amazing, finally! Sony and nintendo have been more consistent when compared to their american counterpart when it comes to hardware and software.

The original xbox was the only console I ever used that felt like a near generational leap over its rivals.

I wasn't alive or old enough to enjoy the first American boom of video games. With that said, the only one that stands out to me on that list is the Xbox 360. What a beast.

Who voted for 3DO? 😂. I get it that Road Rash and Need for Speed were the best versions, but cant remember anything else that made me enjoy a bit this console. Way of the Warrior control was so horrible lol.

Voted Atari 2600 and X360. Was having a Gemini that played 2600 games, love this console when i was a kid, and can say 360 was a step ahead of OG Xbox , which was still a good console imo.

I'd go with the OG Xbox. I loved mine, had great multiplats and a decent library of exclusives as well. My 360 was dead by 2008 and I never bought another one so I can't comment on the later years of the system.

OG Xbox is my fav console. It's very customizable, and having the best versions of 6th gen games is great (PS2 can't handly most of them).

I'm actually surprised, most are (or at least were) pretty good, I mean the VCS was pretty much "the console" in its days, the Intellivision and ColecoVision (Donkey Kong it still playable on it, that was the Neo Geo of its days). The worst ones were those from the Atari downfall--7800+Lynx+Jaguar--I have zero interest in those, but I assume you could make a case for the Lynx. The rest, 3D0 was ahead of its time, didn't sell well but managed to garner a pretty good library none the less. The xbox consoles are honestly all good, so no questions there, my fav is the OG xbox, but my guess is that the 360 was the one with the most impact.... the one is just the one, it does OK.

If someone makes a Japanese vs American designed consoles poll. America is going to be destroyed. Also alot of these consoles werent made in USA.
