Best band front man ever?

David Lee Roth. Dude had jokes, charisma, flare, he was a former gymnast and practiced martial arts so his front kicks, back flips and toe touches off the stacks were always on point.

He was also an entertaining storyteller if you accepted the fact that half of what he said was bullshit.

Wasn’t that much of a singer. But everything else he did was cranked to 11.

Peak Roth:

David Bowie counts?

Thom York, David Gilmour, Fred Mercury, Jagger, Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Bruce Dickinson, Alex Turner, Paul McCartney, Ozzy... I mean, most famous and great bands have had iconic singers, it's hard to pick...

Ozzy is a great one.

I think it has to be Freddie Mercury.

My under the radar underdog pick is Deryck Whibley (Sum 41); dude is incredible live; at least he was before he almost killed himself blowing out his liver; haven't seen them recently.

RHCP is my favorite band, but Anthony Kiedis always manages to be just a little bit disappointing in just about everything he does. Flea and Frusciante on the other hand are GOAT and everything they touch turns to gold.

Freddy Mercury because not only of his vocal range but how he could control a crowd of tens of thousands to his will.

Notable mentions:
Till Lindemann - when you say Rammstein, its the first thing you think off.
Axl Rose - maybe an ego asshole but in a matter of a few years he rose to the stratosphere of fame. His voice was also awesome at the time, he was a total badass.

Its sacrilegious to post a photo of this midget from iRobot with frog eyes as representation of the real Freddy.

Jaggers a bitch I like the stones but there legacy music wise is patchy, Lennon had him right in the 70’s when he said all he does is mince around the stage. Jack Bruce has got to be up there surely.

Good names in here. Freddie and Jagger come to mind because they always kept the band name. I give Halford some props because his style has seemed to win over the metal heads over the years versus contemporaries. A lot of bands go for Sabbath sound but don't do Ozzy, but plenty go Halford's sound.

I like the young death noms. I love Peter Steele and Cobain. Nobody else has managed to copy them but they sound/feel a way nothing else does.

And on the other wave, give a prop to Eddie Vedder. He got so much attention so fast that he sabotaged his own fame, then had a ton of terrible copies. Most people hate Vedder because of Creed rather than Vedder. That's a weird accomplishment. To be noted by the loathing of your copycats rather than your work.

Two of my personal favourites are Liam Gallagher (I know most think he's a cock) but he personified the uk for young lads in the 90s, another is Richard Ashcroft, extremely underated but captures the crowd and had charisma (and sounds fantastic).

As others have mentioned, Freddie must be one off the best (although I'm not a fan I can appreciate his talent). Other notable choices are Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain.

Saw Alex Turner mentioned before, he's an odd one, has charisma but he doesn't have his own style, as he keeps changing it. He's from Yorkshire, but then started to think he was Elvis, talking in an American accent.

If anyone says Chris Martin, then I feel sorry for them.

Chester Bennington would be answer. Dude was insanely talented, had a killer voice, and really should still be with us. Shame he isn't.
