Best band front man ever?

David Lee Roth. Dude had jokes, charisma, flare, he was a former gymnast and practiced martial arts so his front kicks, back flips and toe touches off the stacks were always on point.

He was also an entertaining storyteller if you accepted the fact that half of what he said was bullshit.

Wasn’t that much of a singer. But everything else he did was cranked to 11.

Peak Roth:

Fuck yes. Plus Steve Vai killing it too.

Also here is a left field one for the thread...

Elton John in his prime was incredible live, like no other. It's a tough choice between Mercury, Tyler, Bono and the like.

You wouldn’t believe how fucking good Bruce Dickenson is after 35+ years, I saw Maiden in Phoenix last year and he still brings it

Off the top of my head, ya. DLR might be the best front man.

When I was young and listened to all this rock shit with dudes with long hair, and you don't really know the names of singers, but just like hearing songs on radio or music shows. I thought he was Van Halen. Turns out Van Halen are the other guys.

Since Bowie isnt really a frontman..

Ill go morrissey

Hated in the 80s for being a fey vegetarian
Hated nowadays and canceled for supporting brexit and being an eccentric

Never dull, the most interesting performer ive seen live many times, never a dull moment during a show
or an interview

Special mention for Mark E Smith r.i.p., the most anti charismatic but actually charismatic performer ever

The Dickies, Leonard Graves Phillips.
No one can hold the crowd in the palm of his hand while wielding a 3 foot dick shaped glove puppet like he can.

Hey,I love Opeth and he is a wonderful song writer.....but I've no idea why he gets your vote for best frontman....please explain, lol.
Live he's cocky and confident. He lets the music do the talking while dropping the odd quip here and there. I watched them support Dream Theatre in Manchester, and as the last note of 'Deliverance' ended, he just said "That was tight" and it was, it was studio perfect.

Plus, people will go for Hetfield, Mustaine, Ozzy, Mercury and Akerfeldt doesn't get anywhere near the appreciation he should get. The guy should be a billionaire or legendary (metal) house-hold name for the music he writes. It's just genius. The middle-bit in "Twilight is my robe" (to name but one of many, many examples) is genius. I mean Classical composer level genius.

Agreed,he's a bit of a genius in his field for sure....he does have a good sense of humour on stage too, doesn't take himself too seriously like a lot of metal/rock bands do.

And that's what I like about him. Dude knows how good he is at writing, recording and performing. Yet, he's humble about it and when he isn't he's taking the piss out of himself.

Just think of the Opeth Journey from their first album to their current one. How the hell does a man write Blackrose Immortal, Burden, locust eater, Spring 1974, Deliverance, Lovelorn Crime, Persephone and Master's apprentice? And he did that in the same time span that most metal bands are scratching their dick trying to reinvent themselves.

I love the dude. No homo.

I mean just listen to that voice? Its incredible...

Unfortunately people age, and vocal chords get fucked up. Yet even past his prime Chris could do stuff like this.

My second would be Brandon Boyd.

He is one of the most effortless singers I have ever heard and almost always sounds EXACTLY like his "Record Voice". Incubus as a band puts on amazing shows as well.

Most of the easy and obvious names have been posted, so I'll take it in a different direction.

On of my personal favorite guitarists and frontmen, Brian Setzer. Him and the Stray Cats lead the cultural revolution known as the Rockabilly Revival. Perfect voice for the style, amazing guitar licks, and just a fun guy. Also one of the reasons I have a Gretsch in my collection.

The sound and style 40 years ago:

And closer to today:
