Best Buy gives no fucks about your time

Give your local Best Buy a call to ask them a question, they've been instructed by corporate not to answer calls.
So a couple weeks ago when they were doing PS5 preorders, I tried to call to see if they were taking in store preorders or just online that day. Then I had to spend a half hour of my time driving to the store to ask because they wouldn't answer the phone.
When I asked the customer service desk rep why he said it was a corporate cost cutting decision.

They are told to focus on in-store customers to try to sell more shit and provide service for people in the store. Usually, phone calls are tied to "Do you have this in stock?" "How many of this do you have?" etc. They have a website and they tend to not pay too much attention to people calling as they see it as a waste of time and most of the information is available online.

I've started to purchase items from them over amazon because it's usually the same price and I can go pick it up within the hour. With Amazon, I have to wait 2-3 days because they're overwhelmed now due to COVID.

Best Buy is designed to be slow, you get incredible services if they have the thing you need there at the actual store.

As someone who's worked in games retail. Good! As a customer in a store. Good!

You've got a lot of work to do places have been cutting down on staffing, maybe there's a queue of customer actually going to give you money. But you've got to keep answering the phone for stupid questions because someone can't bring up the .com of your company for the answers.

As a customer in that queue every time staff stop to answer that phone it's like someone has just pushed to the front of the queue to "ask something quickly".

Go to office max/office depot. they have better sales than bestbuy and price match bestbuy when they dont. its a much better experience and they should have a store in your neighborhood.

Couldn't you just go online and make an online preorder, and if you couldn't make a preorder online then they weren't doing online preorders?
What am I missing?

You re missing everything. Online preorders were selling out in seconds. People were lining up outside stores the day before.

Nothing worse than going to any business, getting up to the counter to transact, and some idiot has to call in to ask some stupid questions. Fuck off and serve the person that bothered to go to the fucking store.

Never shop at best buy. I once bought a Costco membership so I could buy a TV just to avoid speaking to anyone at Best Buy.

I walked into Costco pulled the tv onto the cart myself and got inline with someone who was buying groceries. It was glorious. Then I never went back.

Let me give you a head's up:

They may not be avoiding calls. They may in fact have no modern phone system set up and don't hire anyone to answer any calls, so you get stuck in "wait for.." limbo while the skeleton crew they employ tries to run the entire store while their phone rings without purpose.

I don't say that as a Best Buy employee, but as someone who has worked public during this COVID shit. Corp doesn't update phone systems. They change to smart phone systems attached the the old landline menu system, then they don't hire people to answer calls. They actually changed the transfer system in our phone system to make it harder to transfer customers to which person they need to speak to.

If you aren't in the store or on the website, then they kind of say "fuck you".

Every time I'm in line someone calls on the phone and the clerk drops everything they are doing to help the person that isn't even in the damn store. If you can't be troubled to get your ass to the store then take your imaginary business elsewhere.

People like you are the reason businesses think they can treat people like crap now.
You could just easily stop crying and go shop somewhere else.

Best Buy don't give a shit about me and I don't give a shit about Best Buy.

I only go into my local store because they got a big titted Becky working in customer service.

They are dead.

Late last year I went to Best Buy and it was completely dead. Maybe a half dozen customers in the store and this was before Covid.

For those familiar with Vegas, it was the store on Maryland Parkway by the Boulevard Mall.

I actually wonder if at least that location is permaclosed?

I love how some people go so overboard thinking that they are a customer, means I want all and every attention to me me me. You arent the only customer, you arent in-store. Get your fat ass off the couch and drive to the store if you see phone calls arent working or just check another store. The time you spent calling, they made like $5000 in sales in those 15 minutes. You are just a tiny no name customer, get over it. If you had some gold membership, spent 500k and keep promoting them on twitter for years...fine id give you some slack. But you arent so nobody cares.

And I love how full of bluster you are about your assumptions. I guess its too much to ask a business to answer a damn phone so I wouldn't have had to drive the compete opposite direction from my home after finishing a twelve hour shift. I also did try looking up the information on the website before I called but like I said it was weeks ago and they hadn't updated the info yet.
You're right though I don't have a gold membership, just a Best Buy Visa Card I used to buy a $1700 laptop a few months ago and a $5000 tv last year.
So in summary, blow me you fuck stick.

I work at a small Mom & Pop Bike shop on phones and sales and it is complete fucking nightmare. Even though we are a small business, the phone rings non-fucking stop all day whether we are open or not and every caller pesters us with pointless questions that either cannot be answered easily or can be found with a quick Google search.

It used to be that there was a 50/50 relationship between a business and a customer. You had to meet them half way and show respect or you would be asked not to return. Nowadays it feels more like a 0/100 relationship where the customer waves their money in the air and screams bad customer service the second anything doesn't go exactly to their liking.

It truely makes me hate this world sometimes, honestly.

Karen decided she didn't want to read any of the posts in the topic telling her why she is wrong.

Your complete lack of self awareness of why you are that type of entitled customer is delicious.

I read every post. Some of them I don't necessarily agree with but I can understand where they're coming from.
Was I obligated to reply to each and every post?
If you find customer service so difficult and unbearable maybe you should do something with your life to qualify yourself for a better job.

I did, 20 years ago so I don't have to work 12 hour shifts and just buy things on credit because I can't actually afford them.

So shut up grandad, I live in a penthouse mortgage free cause I had the cash to just drop on that bad boy one and done. I got in a time machine and read your post and action-ed it so I would not end up bitter and deperate like you punching down on minimum wage workers.

Karen.

ROFL. Penthouse. Right.
I work twelve hour shifts because it's the norm in my industry. I'm a red and blue sealed tradesman who has supervised workforces of a size that they collectively made more in one shift than you do in an entire year. Projects in the hundreds of millions of dollars in scale. So trust me money isn't an issue.
Troll someone else small fry.

If you applied that logic to every person in customer service, then you would just have robots answering your phonecalls and dealing with you which is worse.

Nobody actually enjoys working in customer service. Are you insane? Have you even done a job like that before? Is that really going to be your excuse? Just get a better job?

OP have you tried Target, by chance?

I just don't think its too much to expect a big box store to offer proper customer service.
I get that alot of people phone with mundane questions but thats a part of doing business. Last time I checked Best Buy was quite profitable so if their staff are really that busy perhaps they should hire more. Mind you last time I was in store most of them were just milling about texting on their cell phones.

Just hire more? Lmfao, employee of the month over here. Duh! It's so simple! Why hasn't anyone thought of it before???

Bro, it's a bit more complicated then that. You don't think that hasn't been considered?

Yeah I hear ya.

I don't know if you saw my previous post, but Best Buy looks like they're hurting and this was months before Covid. The store I went into last year was a ghost town and I live in Vegas, a decently sizes city.

No actually they're far from hurting. They may be down on in-store profits but their online sales have made up for it.
They've just purposely chosen to offer lesser customer service to save money.
Hence the gist of the thread.
