Best games suggestions for an old laptop

I have an old windows 10 laptop I just fixed and I've got a few games on it. Fire Pro Wrestling World works but I can hear my laptop chugging to keep up. Same with Dwarf Fortress.

So what are some lower required games I can play without it shutting down?

The specs are 8 GB Ram, i5 processor. Its an Acer something or other and gaming focused. Since this laptop started working I'm off the market on buying something new because that'd be wasteful and stupid.

How about Starcraft Broodwar Remastered? But i don't know if the requirements are much higher to the original.
Looking at the specs it should work on slow computers

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4 GHz) or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6 GHz) or better
RAM:
4 GB RAM
GPU:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512 MB) or ATI Radeon HD 4850 (512 MB) or better
OS:
Windows® 10 64-bit
STO:
2.8 GB HD space
NET:
Broadband Internet connection

There's 14 generations of "i5" that may as well be an Atom to Threadripper difference, and some of the same model have different GPUs, so always best to specify that up front

8th gen would probably run Skyrim pretty well, that's a pretty meaty game

I played FTL, Into the Breach, The Curse of Monkey Island, Ceaser 3, Terror from the Deep and Anachronox on my oldman.

I5 8th gen. Without going too much into the classics. I believe you will be around 30 fps on most of them.

Mass effect trilogy

Tomb raider 2013

Classic RE4, 5 and 6

Left for dead 2

Dark souls 1 and 2 (may work or not)

Cod from 4 until bloops 2

Fallout 3 + New Vegas mod that I forgot the name.

Binary Domain

Borderlands 1+2

System Shock remake

Vampire survivor

Dead Cells

Warcraft 3 reforged + StarCraft 3 + Diablo 3 + 2 ressurected

Yakuza 0 to anything on the PS3 era

Halo Masterchef collection

Ultra street fighter 4

Civilization 4+5

Kingdom of Amalur

Baioneta + Vanquish.

Ultima online ruins to riches.

1000 hours + of game play there.

there are some modern games like Ion Fury that should run on it.

that's a boomer shooter running on Build Engine, the same engine used in Duke Nukem 3D.

IMO the best modern boomer shooter out there, because it's authentic to classic PC shooters while also improving on them in basically every way.

old classics like Deus Ex, and many 360 era games are worth checking out I guess.

if you don't want something super obvious, try Bionic Commando

it's a 360 era game, it's really underappreciated, and pretty unique.

it did run at 720p 60fps on my old laptop, which had an i3 and a GeForce 820m... so...

Check out the best Star Wars game Jedi Outcast

Gog dot com would be your best bet and best friend for this computer.

Also, maybe it would be worth it to open the laptop and do a cleanup , re thermal paste the CPU, clean fan from dust.

it's most likely an integrated gpu. OP is struggling to run dwarf fortress which has the following min specs:
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: XP SP3 or later
  • Processor: Dual Core CPU - 2.4GHz+
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 1GB of VRAM: Intel HD 3000 GPU / AMD HD 5450 / Nvidia 9400 GT
  • Storage: 500 MB available space
  • Additional Notes: Requires 64 bit processor and operating system
So yeah, have low expectations.

papers, please
castle crashers
FTL faster than light
hollow knight
vampire survivors
terraria
return of obra dinn
