Best looking water in games

Ok hear me out .. it's not great at all but back in the days I was amazed by water in this game. My village was 99.99% made of water.

Water in the Witcher 3 also looks good, nothing groundbreaking though. The water shown in the E3 trailers however looked some of the best ever. Hope they include it in the enhanced edition now that we have more powerful consoles

I remember picking up "Far Cry Instincts" for the 360, and just wading around in the water for an hour because I was so impressed. Water like that just wasn't possible on consoles beforehand.

I don't support games as a service, I support games that come out fully when launched. It launched 1/8th of a game for $60.
Fuck me.... whilst I dont give a shit, I've been enjoying the hell of that game. Of course you entitled to your opinion, but calling it a scam?!

OT, Sea of Thieves has the best water of any game right now.

It was indeed a scam. They completely mislead all their customers with their PR bullshit and lied about the content of the game many times over.

It launched as a scam, could be better now, I don't really care.

I'd love to see a new water based racing game like Waverace on the new consoles, they'd look so unbelievably good. I still go back and play Waverace 64 and Blue Storm, the water in BS still holds up quite well to this day.

Sop looks the best but i think that the latest ac games\rdr2 have a more interactive water.

Does ships and people in sop create sub-waves? Or the sea is just good but not really interactive?!

Edit: yeah water in tlou2 looks great too.

Do you support Xbox Game Pass? Because it's there to play as part of the subscription.

Rationalize it however you want, but the game has had incredible support over the years. It's not a scam; it's a great example of a game that launched as a 6/10 and has turned into an 8.5/10.

Yes. It launched as a *scam*, definitely. It's faaaar from it now, to the point where (imo) you could say it even under promised in some areas. (And actually turned it around pretty quick after launch)

That's why people are reacting as harshly to your (admittingly true) statement.

I was always blown away by the Arc waterfall in Halo 3. A huge ocean with a drop off in the middle of nowhere - so unusual and unique - love the Halo environments.

Sea of Thieves has incredible water. It's something to behold maxed out on PC when you're in a battle with the waves ripping and roaring and your dipping in and out blasting cannonballs and cursing the seadogs mothers.

Speaking of water, what the hell happened to this game?

Last we heard of it, it's still coming but there was MAJOR changes in the game experience. Some important people left the team (like the creative director, which was at Ubi for 20+ years...) because reportedly it is now a GAAS, and they didn't like it

Wave Race 64, for its time there was NOTHING out there on other consoles that could compete with these effect, the PS1 and Saturn would have collapsed...

This gets my vote, even today, the way the water moves and how it changes the control, strategy of the race, etc., is just brilliant. The Cube version is great too.

The turmoil continues.

So I take it you haven't played it within the last few years. They've updated the hell out of it and it's a great, great experience.
How about getting games that you may be able to put the disc in your console down the road and it works day 1? Or after the console lost support.

I mean, who goes back to a game that disappointed them so much?

Man, I still remember that Morrowind screenshot from back when it used to circulate around in "Best looking water in games" threads of the early 00s.

It really did look unbelievable at the time.

Yeah I actually think this is the best water in terms of visual for me, even above Sea of Thieves, but the interaction and actual underwater world is BY FAR best in AC: Origins. SoT also has better interaction than AK ofc. Uncharted 4 is up there but it looks too flat imo.

I loaded up Arkham Knight in 8K just to see what the water looks like and its stunning. Hard to play at 7.5 fps though :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Where is the best game ever ??

Also, honorable mention to Oblivion, but I can't find a video of vanilla water

This is definitely amazing and I'd say the best in terms of overall interactivity but I still think its more realistic and accurate in AC:Origins when the boats move through the water. Overall I'd give it to RDR 2 though since the horses and dynamite affect it too, thanks for sharing that.

People who aren't petty assholes who refuse to acknowledge that devs have put in years of hard work and FREE UPDATES to make their product beter.

Forza Horizon 3 & 4 has some amazing water, they got help from SOT devs for the water rendering and simulation.

"Say, you are in the country; in some high land of lakes. Take almost any path you please, and ten to one it carries you down in a dale, and leaves you there by a pool in the stream. There is magic in it. Let the most absentminded of men be plunged in his deepest reveries—stand that man on his legs, set his feet a-going, and he will infallibly lead you to water, if water there be in all that region."

-Herman Melville, Moby Dick

I feel you, and so often it is disappointing in games. I love seeing all the games here that do it well. Bioshock was fantastic even if it was fake. Lended a certain feeling to Rapture. I loved it.

Sea of Thieves can swim submerged, mouth open, through an ocean of dicks though. Killer water, but GaaS.
