Best Mixed Drink You've Had?

Greyhound - keep it simple and hopefully they have non-sweetened grapefruit juice.
Mojito - original with 1/2 the sugar.

Most local restaurants have a good selection of tasty drinks, I tend to favor anything mango or lemon-droppy.

My favorite cocktail: Mai Tai. There are a few recipe variations floating around because two people originally fought over who invented the drink (Trader Vic vs. Don the Beachcomber).

Also something that I never thought would taste good but blew my mind the first time I tried it: Hendrick's Gin Tonic with cucumber.

I've been sort of on a cocktail kick and am looking for some interesting drinks to make. So what are the best/most out there mixed drinks you've had?

One of the best ones I've had was in this bar in Seattle. It was some vodka strawberry drink and tasted way better than I expected.

Grey Goose & Sprite with a twist of lime.

There is a Chinese restaurant near where I live that sells all these Polynesian style mixed drinks, and they make a killer Mai Tai and an excellent mixed drink called "The Headhunter" I have no idea what is in it, but its so good!!

Death in the Afternoom

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces absinthe
4 ounces Brut champagne

Bloody Mary at a club I used to spin at. Thing was delicious. There is a speak easy type bar that makes prohibition era cocktails I have been meaning to try in my area.

So simple but I'll have to give it a shot.

I went to a Macallan Scotch Dinner at Hopscotch a few years back and the Apertif was this fantastic little mixed drink with Scotch. I can't for life of me remember what was in it but it was delicious.

1 part vodka
1 part some fruit liqueur (like kiwi, melon, lime, lemon)
4 parts sprite

And get surprised because that shit tastes sooooo good.

Vodka Gimlets are fantastic. Especially if you can get freshly squeezed lime juice for a little bit of a tart kick. Very nice when made well.

I feel like it's so rare when I good mixed drink regardless. I think the best one's I had were a grip of whiskey sours I had at the Philmore in Denver to see Dethklok. The guy was actually measuring and mixing and this was just the back bar. I kept tipping him huge because the drinks were so good.

There is a drink at my favorite restaurant in LA that I love, it's called Blood and Smoke. It's a scotch and mezcal drink mixed with a muddled blood orange, lime, and bitters. Slightly fruity with a smokey aftertaste and it's amazing.

I generally don't like overly complex drinks. My top three are probably Manhattans, gin martinis and vodka & cranberries. Sometimes I will go for old fashioneds, gin & tonics or long island iced teas for a change of pace. When I was younger I always drank stuff like 7 & 7s, rum & cokes, and whiskey sours but I lost the taste for them.

Poor Man's Black Velvet (also known as a Black Adder). Equal parts stout beer and apple cider. So tasty.

Also shout-outs to vodka cranberry. A good standby.

The Dirty Hooker at Canon in Seattle. I can't even recall all that is in it except that it's smoky-scotchy-and topped with egg white foam DAMN SON.

I had a bartender make me his take on an Old Fashioned where he muddled some orange and cherry and used enough bitters to saturate a single sugar cube. It was amazing and I've been trying to reproduce it ever since with no success.

That's a pretty standard way of making an old fashioned. I like to muddle my orange rind and cherry.

But yeah, that's my favorite. I'm starting to like angostore bitters a bit less though...I find they tend to overpower the drink a fair bit, even with a small amount. I think I'm going to try some different bitters.

in college i used to get blueberry stoli + cran all the time, and i recommend trying it. it tastes like pie.

Not sure if it counts as a mixed drink, but Irish car bombs are amazing. The Guinness mixed with Baileys gives it a kinda chocolate taste.

Yeah, Angostura bitters need to be used sparingly, I like Peychaud's better for most cocktails. It may just be my state privatizing liquor sales, but it seems like there has been an explosion of craft bitters recently. It used to be between Angostura and Peychaud's, but now there are dozens of choices.

I accidentally made one that tastes like Ecto Cooler.

Let's see if I can remember what I used. I make enough for me and my fiance so my measurements will be for 2.

4oz White Cranberry juice
4oz Blue Curacoa liqueur
4oz Coconut Rum
4oz Orange Juice
2oz Pineapple Juice

I'm pretty sure that was it. Might of had the Orange juice / Pineapple ratios swapped. It was a month ago and I made it at random.

The person that made it for me called it Swampwater. 7-Up, Lime vodka, and Apricot brandy. Pretty good. I also like White and Black Russians.

My go to mixed drink is Maker's Mark and 7-Up.

I have plenty of favorites, but a buddy of mine makes his own apple cider-ish moonshine (well, mixed with everclear) that is so damn tasty and sneaks up on you like a ninja.

I've seen a bunch of recipes, and I'm sure the basic ingredients are apple cider/apple juice, everclear, cinnamon sticks, cloves, white/brown sugar...but man his is delicious. He must just use ground cinnamon because there are flecks of it in the drink. Sooooo good.

Other than that, I love a good Dirty Gin Martini.

- Martini
- Manhattan
- Old Fashioned
- Sazerac
- Negroni
- Gimlet
- The Last Word
- Bloody Mary
- French 75
- G&T
- Michelada
