Yup. On the weekend before that election, SNL did a sketch called "Dukakis After Dark," where Dukakis, proclaiming that he had no chance of winning, decided to throw a fancy cocktail party with his remaining campaign funds, rather than waste it on actual efforts toward victory.

And honestly, does it really surprise you that people more fondly remember ownage where they agree with the owning party?
 
I'll bring up the first Australian example: this guy.
