Best videogame locations?

Keio

For a Finer World
Dear gaffers,

what are your favourite game locations/worlds? Which places make the best virtual vacation? Why?

The first place that springs into mind is Metroid Prime's Tallon IV. Although the respawning monsters are a pesky nuisance when you try to relax.

Another great environment is Paragon City in City of Heroes. Very good different locations.

It's been forever since i played it, but that level in nights that had the weird bouncy ground and then you'd go inside of buildings and there were awesome mirror effects. That was the coolest looking level and it had amazing music.

pueblo village RE4

mushroom kingdom Mario series

DOAXVB village DOAXVB

onset island LOZWW

Spira (especially besaid + LUCA) FFX2 (post SIN)

Flashback: Level 2 (Bladerunner-esque place where you did errands)

Metroid: Tallon IV

Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Hyrule Field, Shadow/Forest Temple

Halo: The big ass icy canyon (esp. in Level 8 when you're taking out the control tower things)

Super Mario 64: Level 4 (Snowy World), Level 3 (Pirate Ship)

Secret of Mana: The Haunted castle thing (with the cool music)

KOTOR: Tatooine, Korriban

Other stuff I'm sure.

The point in Ocarina of Time where you can view Lake Hylia, Death Mountain and Gerudo Valley, all from the same position.

Denadoro Mountains, Guardia Forest, Zeal to name some (Chrono Trigger)
Narshe, Opera House, Ghost Forest (FFVI)
Midgar, Junon (FFVII)
Vekta Slums (Killzone)
Underground/world (Symphony of the Night)
Sky Fortress (Bahamut Lagoon)

Adelpha (Outcast)
ICO's castle
Silent Hill (from SH2)
World of "The Dig"
Some of the worlds from Primal (the rainy area especially)
Metroid Prime's game world.

...and a number of others that I can't recall.

Arni Village (Chrono Cross)
Lahan (Xenogears)
Lizard Rock (Chrono Cross)
Fishermans Horizon (Final Fantasy VIII)
Besaid Island (Final Fantasy X)
Termina (Chrono Cross)

Lahan (Xenogears)

Oh yeah, Lahan was a beautiful little village, and the music was just awesome. Wasn't that also Lahan in the background battle screen too? It's been a while.

My favorite of all time though is probably the ice cave from Donkey Kong Country, I still play that level from time to time and just laugh my head off at the notion that this game hasn't aged well.

Runner ups:
The pier level from Mafia
The Jedi Tomb level Jedi Academy (god was that a beautiful level)
Any town in Daggerfall during sunset

Ichon. K200 APCs and LHX attack choppers just sittin' on the tarmac, waiting to be snatched. It's like the Mercenary WalMart.

But really, off the top of my head I'd say The Severed Hand from Icewind Dale 1. What a creepy place. Awesome.

Back when I played it, I even had dreams where I was in Dobuita and Sakuragaoka of Shenmue I. Then, I woulld also love to be in Wan Chai and Guilin of Shenmue II.

The good thing about it is that these places are based on real places in China and Japan, so I think I'll go there some day. I also liked the worlds of JSR and JSRF, but that's a bit more difficult... (unless someone invents the cel-shading glasses :-))

I believe its the dungeon in Tekken 5 & the arctic in tekken 5.
Fight club scene in tekken4. U win against a challenger in that stage u feel like a pimp.lol :D
Fighting omega weapon in FFVIII. At the church or temple(i forgot, its been a while)
Vega stage in streetfighter 2
The music & the area when battling sephiroth in FFVII

The first two stages of Streets of Rage II.
Tokyo in GT3.
The living room in Katamari Damacy.
Vice City.
The entirety of Silent Hill 2.
Bervenia Plains and the swamp (?) in FFT.

The Mushroom Kingdom/Outskirts.

I don't think there exists a bigger place in the world of video games. They've just never made a single game with every part of it.

Edit: Maybe Morrowind.
