Bethesda is being extremely shady about The Evil Within's PC framerate

I wonder how many 60+ FPS purists will pass on an otherwise good game because of this.

I certainly will. I didn't have a pre-order to cancel, but it was definitely on my radar.

It's not that I think that 30FPS is unplayable, but that I invested in decent hardware so that I dont have to play in 30FPS. To have a dev come along, and invalidate my investment is simply wrong, and I will not support them.

I am not a kid any more. It's no skin off my ass to skip a game. I have plenty to play, however, I do hope they see the error in their ways and patch it out.

Don't worry I've already seen posts that are like 'The PC has a locked framerate? Well I'm ordering the PS4 version!' which does boggle my mind a little as it's exactly the same framerate with a lot more stuff locked down. Oh well their choice I guess.

This "oh well, i'll get the PS4 version then" attitude seems to happen with almost every game and i have no idea why.

Why does this thread have almost the same amount of views that the actually game OP does? o_O

Cause the way it runs is more important than what's actually there to play.

PC TEW caped 30 fps, not dev internaly by TNGO.
xtnrnl wosrkshop.

what am i fighting for?

It doesn't really affect me atm, I didn't expect to run this game at 60 with my rig (sucks for people who can), but i'm sad that this means we'll never run this game at higher framerate if the game is frame locked.

Oh well. Maybe we'll get an ultimate HD edition like RE4 in year 2025 :P

Ah fuck that. Now I can't play it with a mouse. Such bullshit, stupid devs. 30fps and fast mouse movements are a no go for me. 1620p, max AA settings and xbox pad it will be then. I still need this. Even if I'm pissed as hell. And there will be a patch/console command to unlock it anyway...I hope. I mean I'm playing dead rising 3 right now at 60fps and it looks and plays nicely. Master race doesn't bow down

Developed by an external studio eh? I'm not surprised this is the result. I was on the fence for the game, but let's see if an intrepid modder can do something.

As I posted in the OT since some were saying we had not seen the PC version:

You can see an older version of the PC version in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2fIQexipaE

Guy is playing the game at 1440p, and he comments in German he's playing the PC version. Though the video was made a few months before the game went gold.

I'm guessing they are either planning on renting or selling their copy after they finish.

The PC version will still likely end up being objectively better, but then you own that copy permanently.

I really hope that's it, can't think of another reason.

I agree though that having a terrible version of a game in your library just mocking you is a good enough reason to skip the PC version.

I've been on media blackout for this game.

Assuming the worst (game logic being tied to framerate), does this game have any slow motion segments? If so maybe we can see a 60fps patch, lol.

For some people a console has other advantages, and the deciding factor is the difference in frame rate on PC. With that not a factor, the console version may be more appealing.
Such things may be preference for trophies, their PC not being a "comfy couch" setup, easy streaming, etc.

Gameflying PS4 version it is! Would rather play on mkb but I cannot support this shit. Maybe they'll patch it and I can pick it up on a Steam sale a long while from now.

1. Go back and watch the original reveal vids, much more than just the lighting got downgraded. Particles are easy to notice but there are entire effects ripped out.

2. Please tell me these immense differences between the PC and PS3 versions because I don't see them.

3. The game came out later on PC - how is it not a port? Look at the half rate animations for far off enemies, look at the tying of durability to framerate. All of these things scream console first development.
I normally hate this line but I feel its apt here:

If you cant tell the *massive* differences between the screenshots I showed, you need to get your eyes checked. They look like completely different games the difference is so big.

Exactly, at least 1620p and hopefully no black bars to try and compensate for the major 30fps cap disappointment.

Hahaha yeah that's all well and good but statement like that which hinge on the PC version being considered right up until the point it doesn't meet their requirements doesn't say to me they were ever considering the pros of a console version in the first place. It's cool what ever platform people want to play on, it's not my place to judge but some people seem very reactionary to hearing news about features or settings not to their liking when they post stuff like that.

WIll wait for sub $10. I was pretty hyped for this too. Just makes no sense. Especially with the insane hardware recommendations for this game.

I bet Mikami was like, "why?" when Bethesda told him the game will be released on PCs. TEW PC port being a hack job isn't surprising.

It's really quite bizarre how Alien: Isolation runs just OK on next gen hardware and at 100FPS on even mid-range PCS, and TEW is running the same on next gen hardware but won't exceed 30 FPS on PC. Japanese coding strike again.

Personally, it's that I want to play the game but not support these shitty practices. I'm not going to boycott it outright, I want to play it too much for that. But, I won't give them money for the PC version. I'd rather rent it on PS4 and send it back when I'm done after a few days.

This shit is absolutely unacceptable on PC to me.

No thanks Bethesda. 30fps for a PC horror game will be too annoying for me to play. I'll either wait for a mod or grab it at disposable cost during a sale next year.

Too bad really, probably a great game if I wasn't annoyed so easily by this sort of thing in a horror game. I find it laughable that for the console (and PC version now I guess) the excuse is that it is better for a horror game to be 30fps ............. no no no! In fact I find it quite the contrary!

Yeah that's cool. I get that a lot of people here on GAF were and mostly still are excited for The Evil Within. Nothing wrong with that as from what I've seen it looks interesting. If you're happy with only renting it because you don't want to financially support them because what's happened that's your prerogative. Though what I mentioned has become a bit of a common theme lately, and not just here, that seems to be something very hastily said instead of weighing up the pros and cons of each potential platform you could, if you still chose to, play it on.

PC port is not by Tango.
