So are you saying his actions were in any way appropriate? Or not? Because you can be pissed, but don't direct it at the wrong people. If his tickets were counterfeit, why is he entitled to anything at all from the event staff after they've explained to him the situation he's gotten himself into?

And I agree with that last part there, even though it wasn't directed at me. But you have to be a decent human being to be treated like a decent human being. It sounds like he lashed out at someone who didn't have it coming.

And people who abuse workers for these things are scumbags. Rich or not. When you're rich however, it's obviously significantly worse because while hey you're a person, but you're also a person who has a lot fewer burdens, and thus your willingness to abuse a worker makes you come off as petty and oblivious.

Dude may be an asshat, but I blame TicketMaster and the other major ticket selling companies; more and more recently any major event these days gets instantly sold out on TM due to scalpers/botters which forces people to go to secondhand places like StubHub for scalped tickets. This problem is becoming more and more widespread and AFIAK they really aren't doing much about it. They really need to crack down on this shit and tighten down how many tickets can be sold per card/person/address and add more captchas and try to stem this shit at the source. A few months ago I had a friend buying tickets for a rock concert and he was on TM waiting for the exact second they went on sale, he literally saw the button light up and tried to buy them and boom sold out. Mind you, while a fairly successful rock band this was not for like the biggest band in the world where you would expect an instant sell out. Then he goes on StubHub ten minutes later and there are hundreds of tickets at double the original selling price. It's fucking horseshit.

While it is a contributing factor, selling out isn't the sole reason. We had tons of people buying scalped/fake tickets even for shows selling at half capacity, where they could have saved hundreds of dollars by just contacting us directly.

It's largely just that people are uninformed, and don't realize that they're either on an unofficial site or that those sites are nothing but resellers trying to prey on them.

The real problem is that people are getting informed one mistake like this at time, and at the current rate it will happen forever.

Only time I've seen "do you know who I am" work was one time at Burger King - Cashier was being a dick, a guy standing to the side tried to come in and see what was going on, and the cashier snapped at him.

The answer to "Do you know who I am" guy was apparently "your boss". (Franchisee, so it doesn't surprise me the cashier didn't know who he was at first sight.)

Everyone does, it's a huge problem in the industry. We switched off Ticketmaster a few years ago and you can still find disclaimers all over our website.

But that comes from the Hamilton people, not the Ticketmaster people.

And when buying tickets, I always go for 100% probability and purchase through the venue or the venue's contracted ticket seller. Why risk it? If I'm not on the ball and the show sells out (even if it's due to the secondary market), then I'm not purchasing tickets. Simple as that. If it's something I really care about, I'll be on the ball, sign up for presale offers, etc. to ensure I get to see it without overpaying or worrying about legitimacy.

This is the only Broadway show I've ever had an interest in seeing. We have tickets to a Wednesday matinee in late August but I'm not an idiot and bought them through ticketmaster. This'll be my first time in NYC so it should be a fun vacation. Just expensive as fuck, lol.

It's more likely the tickets were sold out on that date and he decided to look on Stub Hub to see if anyone was reselling the tickets for that specific date. As Skunkers and others in the thread have pointed out, many sellers on Stub Hub will purchase tickets from the official venue and then resell them at higher prices to people who will be willing to pay those prices once the venue sells out (especially if it's a one day show/event). He probably paid a lot more money for those tickets than what they were worth, especially since they were "fakes" (probably the seller reselling the same tickets to multiple people).

Your point that rich people are people too is pointless because people are treating him the way a person should be treated if they behave in an abusive fashion. Further, a person in a good situation should be treated more harshly because they are rich beyond most people's wildest imaginations, yet are as abusive (if not more so) than many people in worse situations.
