Binary Domain - Consequence System

I wonder if they realise the voice acting and dialogue are shit or if they just don't care. Considering they're targeting a Western audience you'd think some English speaker at Sega would say actually guys, you might want to change that.

If you translate back what they say into Japanese, it makes sense in the context given. Probably what happened is that no one gave the translators any context other than "it's a shooter".

Consequence system looked cool until about halfway through the video where I realized it doesn't seem to add to the game. Is it about trying to create bonds with your characters? Do you get "points" just by playing well? How does that create connections? The game "punishes" you for ignoring your teammates by not backing them up but basically if you aren't backing them up and ramboing it up, will you even notice?

At least there is some sort of irony in hunting down robots who think they are human while using AI companions that are made to appear to be human.

LONDON AND SAN FRANCISCO (21st October, 2011) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that the much anticipated third person, squad shooter Binary Domain™ will feature two distinctly different pre-order DLC packs.

The first pack focuses on enhancing Binary Domain’s single player experience; the ‘Dan Marshall Pack’ unlocks a brand new weapon and skills for the player’s character in Binary Domain, Sergeant Dan Marshall.

Dan is a member of the international Rust Crew charged with infiltrating robot defended Japan, and identifying the source of an illegal operation creating horrifically lifelike robots called ‘Hollow Children’. This unique pre order pack will give players access to the powerful ‘SOWSAR-17 SBMOD type G’ Assault Rifle, a significant upgrade to standard issue firepower. In addition to a powerful new weapon, players will also gain access to a number of unique bionic upgrades: Assault: Physical Enhancement I, Assault: Protective Coating and Assault: Quick Prompt. All of which make Dan more resilient, stronger and faster in combat action.

The second pack focuses on the recently revealed multiplayer aspects of Binary Domain: The ‘Multiplayer Pack’ gives access to an exclusive multiplayer map, ‘Outside High-rise, Upper City’ which can be played across a variety of Binary Domain’s multiplayer modes. In addition a new playable class is also unlocked, the ‘Ninja’ is offered for both teams; this unique playable character type is perfect for surprise attacks and adapting combat style to the situation. Finally this unique pre-order pack also contains two exclusive multiplayer weapon types the ‘Hoga Type 69’ Sniper Rifle for long range annihilation of enemies and the ‘Yamato-0’ Handgun, for more up close and personal work.

Binary Domain is a pioneering third-person squad shooter from the creators of the Yakuza series. Set in near-future Tokyo where climate change has caused many living in the lower city of Tokyo to live in poverty. With a central branching storyline, voice recognition in combat and conversation and AAA shooter mechanics Binary Domain offers something genuinely unique to the genre.

I'm interested in the game, but everyone knows the price will probably fall sharply a few weeks after launch. I doubt anyone's gonna pre-order.

that looked better than what i'd seen before. given the team, id like to make this a day 1, just need to see a bit more, i think.

Nagoshi presents Binary Domain on gamespot thing

Can see a guy play through early section demo.

Some pretty cool sections. Like how enemies will rush and flank you if you stay behind cover too long. Guy gets overwhelmed all the time throughout the demo.

Agreed, game looks too simple in the way the squad responds to you also.

I'm more interested in the different action ones than the talking.

Like in the gamespot demo Bo tells you he'll draw sniper fire while you take them out. So I'm guessing you'll gain points with him for keeping him safe and lose them by letting him get downed.

Guy in the demo also ran ahead and ended up drawing sniper fire on himself(lol) and Bo responded negatively to that as well, so I think the system will be pretty interesting if you keep expectations in check by remembering its a game.

As long as it really responds to how you act in the game, it'll already be better than every other moral choice system in games

I like the way this game is shaping up.

Tactical squad command stuff doesn't show up often enough. Freedom Fighters did a great mix of shooting action and managing small groups of soldiers, and I haven't really seen another game do that sort of thing as well.

The commands remind me a little of the underdeveloped response system in ZoE2, where you could positively or negatively respond to ADA's suggestions as you played. I didn't really realize it was there until towards the end of the game, but even something as simple as making my character reply "Got it" after being told that I was ready to fire the Vector Cannon drew me a little deeper into Jehuty's cockpit.

This seems more elaborate than ZoE2's system, and that's fine. Even if the process of managing your squadmates is simple, as long as you don't have to constantly babysit them, the simple back-and-forth as presented there can build your relationship with them more effectively than a poorly-dubbed Sega cutscene.

It's very much on my radar.

Cold months or not, Nagoshi always tan.

Wow

I played through the entire game without noticing this.

Am really interested now. Based on what I see, has better shooter/relationship mechanics than *cough* ME2. Hope it ain't short.

Hope the Yakuza devs get this game right.

SEGA’s futuristic squad based shooter Binary Domain has been handed a 15 certificate age rating from the British Board of Film Classification due to it’s depictions of “strong violence”.

The listing also reveals that game will feature 255 minutes of cut-scenes (that breaks down to 4 hours and 15 minutes). Earlier this week, the BBFC rating for Capcom’s Resident Evil themed squad shooter Operation Raccoon City unearthed that the game will feature just 19 minutes of cut-scenes by comparison to Binary Domain’s 255. Either Capcom don’t have much of a story to tell or they plan on telling it in-game while you’re actually playing.

Binary Domain and RE: Operation Raccoon City are scheduled for release in Q1 2012.

:O

This game has actually been looking really great, I'm a huge fan of the Yakuza series, but I still had my doubts to whether this game would suck or not. The gameplay has looked good so far though, Nagoshi has it under control.
