Bioshock Infinite |OT| No Gods, Kings, or Irrational Games

After a few hours:

Looks incredible(!!), sounds incredible but it's Bioshock in the sky. Don't expect any revolutionary things. It's Bioshock. The combat is fine but nothing special, the powers are kinda the same but fun to use, even the turrets are pretty much ripped right out of Rapture. It has a very Bioshock 1 style intro too.

The skyhooks are cool though and everything is super detailed. I don't like how you have no indication you're about to die and for that matter, why is there even a health meter at all? There's health items EVERYWHERE to the point that it might as well be regenerating instead of having a regenerating shield(which you have, so like Halo). It's super violent too. The execution moves are brutal and a few other scenes are just as graphic, it gives the entire city a dark twisted feel to it.

I like it though. I wanna see more of the story and Elizabeth.

Thanks to everyone for the reviews/impressions. You have collectively increased my, all ready higher than high, hype level to the unfit for living level.

13 hours and 21 minutes and counting. God help me...

I just wanted to write down a few quick impressions.

Finished Infinite earlier this morning and I had a tough time finding the right emotions to express what I played.

On one hand, it felt like such a huge departure from Rapture. Glorious blue heavenly skies, a world that's more alive, action that feels more akin to Uncharted than the previous more survival horror of Bioshock.

It feels different. An honestly, the worst thing you can do to yourself is constantly compare it to Rapture and Bioshock.

Pretend it's a new ip, honestly that's what really made me get out of my funk.

At first, the first few hours, I honestly didn't feel this game. Why are the skies so blue? I want dark neon art deco!!

Why is there so much combat? I want to face 1 splicer at a time, not a constant mob!

Is this generic handyman really supposed to compare to the exquisite big daddy?

I felt all I did was constantly compare every minute aspect of Columbia to Rapture and that just made my experience horrible for the first few hours.

But than I met Elizabeth, and told myself, just judge this game based off it's own unique merits. Forget about Rapture, forget about the big daddies, just leave Rapture in the back of your own mind and explore Columbia as if you explored Rapture for the very first time.

An that's when things took off. I began to be hooked and couldn't let go until the very end and I mean the
VERY
end
(there is a major scene after the credits!!!!)

There's so much I want to discuss. The racial themes that will really become a stepping stone I believe in regards to taboos in games, the religious undertones and themes, Columbia, the characters, the awesome..yet deep..ending..but I'll wait a bit until everyone gets there hands on this gem before I go full blown 20 page synopsis on you guys :p

If you ask me, "Is this better than Bioshock 1?" I would reply with a simple yet ambiguous "I don't know, it's different."

Regardless, at the end of the day, I can proudly say that Levine did it again, and it will proudly sit on my shelf next to System Shock 2, and Bioshock 1.

Bravo Mr. Levine, Bravo.

You're right that's it's Bioshock, it's extremely similar at times to a point where some of the sounds are the exact same as some from B1. But it's a tonne of fun and incredibly intriguing, I keep taking breaks only to crave more of it

Just started and I love the atmosphere, only thing I've noticed that sorta bug me is the low quality textures for plants and grass, very 2d and flat (mainly talking about those rose bushes)

The best way to play this game imo.

People who play this in 1 sitting will miss alot out of Infintie.

It's narrative has really quirky pacing (like someone mentioned in this thread previously, it's more akin to a novel than say your typical video game), and is best enjoyed like fine whine.

Sip a little here, sip a little there.

Take your time, and just explore every crack. Listen to the audio diaries, listen to the various conversations the citizens of Columbia are partaking in, just soak it all in. Than take yourself out of the game, and come back to it a few hours later..or maybe the next day.

Again, take your time with this game guys!

Got it this morning.

After 2 hours I was ambivalent. I loved everything but the combat:
But there was a lot of combat which wasn't fun with a pistol and the inconsistent Possession vigor. And a lot of groups just running at you which sucked big style because getting smashed distorts your view and then the Shield-depletion HUD notifier is fucking AWFUL which combined into CoD-esque 'can't see shit' moments of frustration

After 4, 5? Love it. Probably even more than Bioshock. I've had to stop myself playing to go have something to eat.

Took the plunge. Those reviews man... O_O

Also, GMG has an amazing deal. Got Bioshock Infinite, Bioshock 1, The Darkness II and XCOM for 37EUR. Who ho! \o/

ah, i was hoping the VPNs would work again. thank you based vpns for unlocking another game a day early.

so if i start steam in offline mode and install the new nvidia drivers, which will most likely result in a reboot. will steam start in offline mode again? i assume so, but never tried offline mode like that before.

otherwise i'll just wait til it's officially released.

Combat starts slow to teach basic tools. I love hearing how opinions on it change after several hours.

Man, I got no work today or tomorrow on account of a snow storm and I can't play this game til it releases later at midnight :(

Beyond crazy hyped with all the reviews and impressions pouring in

So I loved the world that Dishonored was in, but felt the narrative and story was held back just a bit with a somewhat lack luster end. Would you say Bioshock Infinite has this amazing world to discover plus a resounding and powerful ending that I was looking for in Dishonored? Just curious :D

How is Elizabeth's
cleavage
AI? Did they succeed in making her NOT feel like a lifeless object in an escort question?

For those of you who have completed it (lucky asses!), how many hours? 10-12 or more like 15+?

If you savor every moment. Explore everything. Collect all the audio diaries. Just take your sweet time with it.

20+ hours isn't out of the question, honestly.

Though just on a pure run through, i'd say 12-15 will be the average playtime more or less.

Same here, scouring all my inboxes every second. Emailed support and the autoresponder mentions they are rolling out keys, so im sure alot of people are writing in about it.

Same here, still no key. I got my Crysis 3 key no problem, and I double chekced the promotion that I was part of and it does in fact include BioShock Infinite. So I don't know, hopefully soon.

Awesome! Thanks for the info.

Noticed a bit of fan service throughout the game, which I found a bit humorous. Or maybe it was just me looking for a pattern so I can just make claim...

As for AI, there are moments where you see her sparks and wires showing, but something this complicated with so few problems is forgivable.

Ahh, ShopTo has let me down... they normally deliver at least the day before release, but not this time, so I won't get it until next post on Tue lunchtime, losing me half a day (that I took off) playing time.

I knew dispatching Sat was not looking good.

Oh well, its only a game, but I'm still miffed... this thread is my solace.

Sounds good. I'm used to AI companions being entirely sparks and wires (they may as well be robots with see through skin), a couple of niggles is nothing. And nothing wrong with some little fan service.

the dead is done. Greenman got my cash.

now I have to talk my wife into entering a steam code over the phone so the pre-load can start.

wish me luck.

Ok came across a bug in one of the cutscene type parts. hings were happening and it suddenly cut to a freeze frame of the end of the section, you could still hear the background trying to catch up and when it got to the part that was frozen it resumed like normal. Not a big deal really, only lasted about 5 seconds, but kind of annoying
For anyone wondering it's the part where
the song bird is chasing you for the first time and you plunge into the water
For people who've played, are there any missable audio diaries?

Yes definitely

Ok. So VPN is doing its thing. Once the game launches do I quit, then put steam in offline mode and then restart steam?

Yep. I would then launch the game again in offline mode with the VPN once more just to be safe. After that you can disconnect from it and you're golden.
