Bioshock Infinite |OT| No Gods, Kings, or Irrational Games

Any further PS3 vs 360 vs PC comparisons? My PC is in my sisters room at the minute, so I'd prefer to buy it on console (bedroom set up). But if it's a huge difference, I'll go PC. Tomb Raider for example, I didn't think was a huge difference. Especially given it looked and ran great on the PS3.

Yep. I would then launch the game again in offline mode with the VPN once more just to be safe. After that you can disconnect from it and you're golden.

Just because I am a worry wort. Does Valve punish people that break 'street date' on their games?

So I loved the world that Dishonored was in, but felt the narrative and story was held back just a bit with a somewhat lack luster end. Would you say Bioshock Infinite has this amazing world to discover plus a resounding and powerful ending that I was looking for in Dishonored? Just curious :D

The narrative is probably the best gaming narrative this gen. That's not hyperbole either. Not saying it compares to even a decent Novel or Film (which it shouldn't because there 2 quite opposite mediums), but compared to most narrative games released this gen, primarily on consoles, and fps, this probably takes the grand prize.

The narrative in Infinite is quite more complex and obviously dwells deeper into more taboo themes about race and religion than any video game to date. Also, if there are any Fringe fans out there, than I'm sure you will fucking love every minute of Infinite's narrative.

An the mileage will vary on the ending. I found it profound and gripping and probably one of the most unique endings this console generation. But that's because I actually understood how it lead up to the point since I was being purposely slow with my play through, and I took the time to examine every little thing possible...and during my time away from Infinite I would try to do some plot summaries in my head, and create some theories how A lead to B and so on and so forth...it helped me soak in the narrative a bit better that way.

People who blast through this game, will probably think the ending is a bunch of pretentious garbage since they couldn't understand anything (which isn't the fault of the game, but rather the player). There are no plot holes, there is no cliff hanger. It's all explained.

I blame NeoGAF for making so impatient that I bought another key. I'll sell the AMD key whenever it finally arrives for $35, if anyone's interested.

Same here, still no key. I got my Crysis 3 key no problem, and I double chekced the promotion that I was part of and it does in fact include BioShock Infinite. So I don't know, hopefully soon.

You definitely get one, AMD is just taking their sweet time with it. I've been opening my inbox every 5 minutes and cursing whoever sends me email that doesn't contain a Bioshock Infinite Steam code.

How is Elizabeth's
cleavage
AI? Did they succeed in making her NOT feel like a lifeless object in an escort question?

Can't say yet. The enemies AI is...okay. They literally notice you through walls and when they have their back to you. I saw a couple run directly into fire as well. Stealth is non-existent.

Right on. That disappointed me when I experienced those moments. Was that on Medium difficulty or hard? I did it on medium PS3, so I want to see if there's a difference on Hard for PC.

there was no stealth in bioshock 1, why would there be stealth in infinite? :/

Hmm amazon got it to you early?

It dispatched on friday afternoon, first class delivery - only the second time I've gotten a game early though, last was with Deus Ex HR from Amazon, I'm surprised it actually got here early given the weather at the minute and the delays it's causing with everything else.

You can't sneak up on people I mean. There was one part where guards were checking rooms, I was told to stay quiet and they moved on. I went out the backdoor and they were walking away in the other direction, a fair distance away and they all instantly turned around and started attacking.

Don't worry. Further along in the game there are definitely moments when you have to be more quiet and "Stealthy" in regards how you take on your enemies.

How far are you btw? I'm assuming not that far?

2GBs left. I procrastinated far too long on the preload/preorder. Just hope FlyVPN trial servers aren't overloaded.

Don't know if it's been answered but for those playing on PC which do you prefer, keyboard and mouse or gamepad?

Definitely kb/m. The added precision of the mouse is too good to pass up, especially when zipping along skylines and you have to jump off quickly.
However some of the buttons on the keyboard are a bit off and having stuff like Iron sights set to "z" is a bit weird. I did a lot of changing

If there is anyone looking to buy a cheap steam key for this game, keep an eye on the Buy Sell Trade thread. I bought Tomb Raider for $25 at launch and now Infinite for $30. It's basically become the place I buy new releases now.

It takes a very special kind of FPS to get me interested. The first was Half-life, the next was Half-life 2 (which still needs to be finished along with the episodes...) and then finally the first Bioshock.

Absolutely loved the first Bioshock, but could not actually find the willpower to replay it, and I had no interest in Bioshock 2. Hopefully I get my $60's worth single experience from Infinite.

No one sue me for saying this, but when all is said and done this is in the debate for my favourite game of all time. But I think it's too soon to talk about that obviously. What is already beyond doubt for me is that this is the most impressive and ambitious achievement I've ever seen pulled off in a game. Hats off to you Shawn.

Crazy how much the ending affected me. It kind of sweeps over and makes you reconsider everything that happened.

Yeah. You have quite a bit to go. Most of the game is pretty action packed as far as combat goes, but there are stealthier combat moments as well.

I'm most intrigued by there being non-combat sections too. Bioshock 1 was Rapture after its fall, this one seems to be Colombia in the midst of its fall, I kind of wanted to see some of Rapture while it was still functioning the last time I played through BS 1.

I deliberately didn't say 'best of all time' because no one can disprove an opinion and I know that in a few days Derrick et al. will swoop down to shit on this game :p.

But I know that when you sit there watching the credits, you're gonna be absolutely delighted.

Speaking of the credits, those are great as well. There's a great
clip of Troy, Courtnee and Ken
in there

I hear the sound of heavy augmented feet rushing in this direction. Odd.

I don't know if it's the best game of all time..personal preference and all that jazz.

But I will agree on the fact that it's probably one of the finest games made (from just a pure video game aspect; sound design, combat, level design, characters, music, level exploration, details, ending, etc) this gen by far. Right up there with Bioshock in that regard..maybe even surpasses it since it's narrative doesn't fall apart like Bioshock did after the twist.

I actually think Derrick focuses a little too much on gameplay, and not enough on narrative and setting, but whatevers. I think it's a mindset thing - I'm guessing (could be totally wrong) that Derrick is older, probably in his 30's or 40's. Thus, he's from a time when games were really more focused about being just pure "games" and stories were either window dressing or non-existent at all. I think how old you are really, really influences what kind of games you like, and I think the recent mini-revival of classic RPGs on kickstarter is probably fueled by older gamers than young kids. Of course, I could be totally wrong though.

For clarification: I am 19, I grew up in my earliest days playing Duck Hunt, Mario games on the NES and SNES (brothers wouldn't let me touch the N64 :( ), then GoldenEye, Half Life 1, and Halo.
