Bioshock Infinite |OT| No Gods, Kings, or Irrational Games

That was a fantastic way to do all the tutorial stuff. Spent about 45 minutes just walking around that first level.

Once you unlock it with VPN do you have to go into offline steam mode? Valve doesn't ban for this correct?

Why? You're purchased the game legitimately. People are already playing it in other parts of the world. And in a couple of hours the point is moot anyway.

I ended up ordering the PC version from GMG Saturday night but couldn't cancel my PS3 version on time. I'm probably going to keep both versions (mainly because the PS3 one is the Songbird edition). I am so excited to explore Columbia and hope to experience provides something to inspire my own writing/artwork.

The best I can hope for is that the game is downloaded before I get off of work tomorrow @ 4:00PM(EST). :(

Hope your computer doesn't get a Windows auto-update to screw up your download! :p

I remember this happened to me before since I also have DSL and waited for my download to finish over night, bam windows update fucked me over.

You should just configure it to do updates when you tell it to. I had the same issue until I did that. I do a lot of uploading and downloading and have to do them overnight so windows update was a huge thorn in my ass

I agree but retailers get very upset about their street dates so I just want to make sure.

So it turns out I will have some time to play tonight. But instead of tunneling through Korea, I'm going to drink beer and watch hockey until midnight. Huzzah!

For people who sunk serious time in so far: just HOW much more linear is it? is it still significantly more open than most other modern FPSes and similar, or is it just a tiny bit more open than those?

Theres side quests. I wouldnt consider it THAT linear.

So I am about 5 hours in and I don't know... I am enjoying the game but the world seems much more lifeless than I thought it would. It's fun but I simply can't understand how this is getting anything above 9.0. Just meh.

My big beef was always that I couldn't really GET into a world and it'd just be a corridor from beginning to end, with Bioshock at least having more Doom-esque exploration. Not looking for Elder Scrolls openness or anything, just something where I can reasonably poke around like Deus Ex or the first Bioshock. Sounds like it's probably good enough then.

Seems like Irrational Games finally figured out how to make escort missions fun:
Just make your protege totally invincible.
Probably not a real spoiler, more of a mechanics thing, but just to be sure...

There's sidequests and stuff you can miss easily. Progression is obviously linear but you're not constantly being shoveled down one corridor with no offshoots or things to go back for. If you're an explorer you'll spend significantly more time in some areas than people who are just going to go from beginning to end.

Just got done playing 4 or so hours. Had a really great time, can't wait to play more. Gonna have to echo the sentiments that the sound design is just spectacular. I can't recall any game with as good sound/music as this.

1999 mode doesn't feel as '1999' as I was expecting. Which is fine, I suppose; B:I is a triple A game from 2013, an additional mode can only take the game design so far. Comparing it to System Shock 2, it certainly feels less "gamey" (more cinematic, ugh) and exploration seems less nuanced, but given the flow of the story so far it hasn't been a problem at all. I could go back and compare it with the 'vanilla' modes but I don't have time right now. Still, the enemies are smart and do a lot of damage, adding some challenge; it doesn't feel unfair however.

The FoV changes when I sprint, as does the mouse sensitivity. It's really annoying.

So does going in offline mode (after vpn) disable the achievements like it does on some games?

Nope, achievements work and synced for me when I went back online (as did playtime).

This game has a very stupid save system. I got to the point where I reached Elizabeth and shut down my game. Upon starting again the game sets me back like 20 minutes before, completely neglecting everything I have done.

Is this random or is the checkpoint system pretty far apart in some levels?

One question from about 4 hours in the game:
why is slate working against me? I really didn't get the whole subplot in the hall of heroes

Can anyone with the Songbird edition ordered from GAME tell me if they've had theirs shipped yet? Still had no money taken and/or notification of dispatch. No (EU) day one for me then...

Saw the offer on Greenman Gaming (Bioshock Infinite + Bioshock +Xcom+ (Mafia 2)) all for £23.99, absolutely a great price. Got my keys straight away, just pre-loading now on Steam.

Can't decide between GMG and Steam's deals. Depends on how much the TF2 hats are worth really.

In the UK, Steam: £29.99 includes, Bioshock Infinite, Industrial Revolution game, Bioshock1, TF2 items and XCom

GMG: £23.99 includes, Bioshock Infinite, Industrial Revolution, Bioshock1, Xcom and one other game (Mafia2, Darkness2, Civ V, Spec Ops the Line or Bioshock 2)

Personally GMG has a much better deal, The lower price seals it, but the fact I get another game and not some TF2 stuff is even better

I just realized that the game has auto-aim on the PC when using a mouse/keyboard and there's no menu option to turn it off. Guess I'll have to dig through the ini files.

This has probably been asked but how do the graphics on 360 compare to the first one? All this "bad textures" and bad FOV talk has me worried.
