Bioshock Infinite |OT| No Gods, Kings, or Irrational Games

Just put 2.5 hours in. A large portion of that just walking around and taking in the scenery.

Combat on Hard ain't no joke. That first handyman thing (?) killed me twice. Cover, possession, and shields are my best friends now.

Bioshock is one of my favorite games of the generation, and this shit makes it look like training wheels. Amazing stuff.

You gotta use the pop-up menu for that...I too thought it'd cycle through all but I can see why they did it this way. It'd be annoying having to cycle through 8 powers just to get back to the last one you used. This way you got 2 you use as your main and bring up the pop-up for powers you use rarely or only in certain situations.

you have a point... thanks!

1999 mode is fun but some parts are just frustrating. I wish when you died without enough to resurrect they'd automatically load the last autosave rather than dropping you back to the main menu. Also weird that every interview about 1999 mode mentions loading manual saves yet it seems they removed the option to save manually. May restart on normal before I get too far so that I can take in the atmosphere and story more and save 1999 for a second playthrough.

That went totally over my head

Haha, I also didn't understand that one when I first heard it. Nice one though.

Oh, and i just wanted to sing one more praise to the game; the attention to detail in everything is crazy. Not just graphics, but little things like (very-light spoilers)
Boys sitting around a corner secretely smoking cigaretes at the raffle, Elizabeth opening the door to ask if you're OK in the casino toilets (it was not scripted for me to go into the toilet, and yet she stays outside and asks because I was staying in for quite a while listening to a voxaphone), all the people having interesting lines even though you probably won't hear like 50% of them
. I love it when games do stuff like that.

Wow, this game is incredible so far, decided to start on 1999 and it's been perfect difficulty wise.

I can't find anything to nitpick other than some dodgy looking character models, the city of Columbia is just something else. Combat is alot more fun than I thought it was going to be and the pacing has just been flawless, had to force myself to quit playing after 4 hours.

I really hope the game doesn't drop the ball at some point, if it keeps up this level of quality and finishes strong...... God damn this could be a masterpiece!

maybe someone can help me out, how do i claim the rewards from the industrial revolution thing? Does it give you a code? Cause i got an email saying that the rewards are ready and the link it gives brings me to the site, but there is nothing on the site that gives me a code or anything to redeem it? So i have no clue what to do. I looked at the FAQ on the page and it says they give you a one-time code to redeem the rewards on the rewards page, but i didnt get anything and the rewards page is also being a bitch and keeps having problems loading. Can anyone plzz help me out? Also since i put in the code for the 360 is it maybe automatically unlocked on it? Any info on this would be great appreciated. Thanks :)

Ya that first Handyman fight was intense!

I used up all my crank gun ammo, machine gun, then pulled out a pistol off of the ground to finish him off.

Granted I didn't have too much left from the first two, but the Handymen are beasts!

I'm done for the night.

I'm new to the Bioshock series. My main franchise that I have played in this generation have been the Batman: Arkham series.

I'm familiar with first person shooters, but haven't gravitated past the Halo series. I Just started playing Bioshock 1, last night. I like to play economically, meaning that I prefer playing through the game without wasting money and xp needlessly.

When I play Arkham Asylum or Arkham City, I know what upgrades to purchase before I purchase them.

In Bioshock, especially early on, what items should I buy from the vending machine? Is eve and first aid important to buy, or can I get by on finding them from fallen enemies and trashbins? I only have the handgun and machine rifle, but they're not as effective as using electricity + wrench combo.

Is there ever a moment where players should refrain from using Eve in their attacks, or can you play effectively using eve as if there is no tomorrow? I haven't played too deeply into it yet, but I've gone through all my Eve tonic too soon, and I haven't even encountered a Big Daffy yet.

How is the FOV (field of view) in this game (console version)? Is it low/narrow? Is there any option to "Unlock FOV" like in Bioshock 1?

Planned on renting this but of course Redbox doesn't have the PS3 version anywhere near me. If only I still had a 360.

Game sounds amazing though.

This game is incredible. It looks fucking amazing, it looks better than any other game I've ever seen. Playing on all ultra. Wow. The first two hours were something else. I just got to monument island.

In Bioshock 1, don't buy eve or health unless you really need it. There should be more than enough scattered around if you explore thoroughly. Also, make sure to melee the health stations before you leave an area, as you'll break them but you'll get a free health pack out of it.

It's pretty low, but you get used to it. And the option from Bioshock 1 is still there, but it's "Unlock FPS", not "Unlock FOV".

The link I believe you're having trouble with, the "My Rewards" link at the top of the Industrial Revolution website, is where you're given your code. I just received mine from there.

It's pretty low, but you get used to it. And the option from Bioshock 1 is still there, but it's "Unlock FPS", not "Unlock FOV".

What I meant to say was, is there a "Horizontal FOV Lock" option, like in Bioshock 1, which raises the FOV of the game? Good to hear there's an "Unlock Framerate" option, but I'm most concerned about the FOV in all the shooters I play.

If it's true that the FOV in this game sucks (lower than 80-90 degrees horizontal), then I unfortunately won't be buying this game until it hits $15-20 used. I don't support FPS games with my hard-earned money that still suffer from an archaic, narrow FOV like in the old Halo days. I'm still suffering every time I play Borderlands 2, with its low FOV that I barely have any peripheral vision to explore and see anything around me.

I was hoping that Irrational learned their lesson from all the complaints leveled at Bioshock 1's FOV, but it doesn't seem to be case.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

No.

On consoles you can only toggle vsync, not the FOV. Bioshock 1 added it after a title update because the screen was cropped from a 4 : 3 image, and not rendering an actual 16 : 9. They fixed that with the TU and for BS2 and this game by default.

I did about half a dozen puzzles and still got the complete pack. As far as I know, the only thing you get from the actual IR game is artwork/wallpaper.

Apparently, for those who have had trouble with the rewards page, simply switching browsers did the trick for them.

And I hope you get it sorted. Sorry, I have no idea how to help with your problem :/

Thanks man, and ya i actually just got it to work. It's weird the game and everything works fine but the rewards page doesn't load at all in chrome, so i just went and opened the game in firefox and went to the rewards page and BAM it loaded and i went and redeemed the code for 360 online. So it should be all good now. Thanks for trying to help, and gl to everyone and hope you guys enjoy the game ^___^

This game can be pretty..awkward. It says not every encounter has to be a fight, and the only way to tell is to stroll up to someone and see if they start attacking or not. Which leads to every enemy in the area turning around at you awkwardly for a second and then attacking. And the AI is..not great.

Still enjoying it, though the pc stutter is doing it's best to ruin the experience (I've done the fix).

When is it wise to conserve on its usage? My firearms suck and melees aren't as effective in dispatching enemies as they are when they are used in tandem with electricity. This is my first playthrough, and I'm already out of eve. And ammo seems pathetically scarce right now. I'm almost afraid to use it right now, for concern of running out of it when I actually need it.

Does that mean that the FOV doesn't suck? Just because a game is Hor+ (i.e., adding Horizontal viewing area for widescreen displays) doesn't mean the FOV isn't too low.

How does the FOV compare to other modern FPS games? Battlefield 3 and the original Bioshock 1 are FPS's that come to mind that have a good, proper FOV setting (~90° horizontal). Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 are examples of poor FOV (~70° horizontal)

I had a lot of difficulty too at first but you get the hang of it. You have to be cautious when engaging enemies and make smart use of your vigors(don't forget to set traps on your flanks).

Once you shake off all the habits and expectations easy modern games have instilled in you you'll find a much more rewarding experience in 1999 mode.

WELP, I'll give 1999 mode another shot then. Backed up my 30 minute Hard save though, just in case. Am I missing something or does the game really only keep four autosave slots?

Still enjoying it, though the pc stutter is doing it's best to ruin the experience (I've done the fix).

I'm in the same boat, the fix seems to have made the stuttering even worse, on a GTX 560 Ti and my dated but trusty Q6600. Might have to turn down the textures to Very High and see how that goes.

The FOV is just fine. Say for example, in a Halo game everything feels a bit too zoomed out, and in Far Cry 3 your damn weapon occupies half the screen space along with the rest of the HUD. Nothing like that in here.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it tells you that. "Try not shooting first," the game told me as soon as I entered the Order's hall. Fat lot of good that did me.

Weapons taking up screen space isn't related to FOV. For example, in Far Cry 3 on PC, you can change FOV from min to max, but the size of your weapon and hand model remain the same. Weapon size and placement is essentially an artistic decision that's unrelated to FOV.

I must say the IQ is pretty darn good in the ps3 version. MLAA?
Yeah i was surprised how much better it lookes (and runs) compared to Bioshock1 with so much more going on PS3

I've been playing Bioshock 1 on PS3, and while I defended it back in 2008, it's immediately apparent how sloppy a port job it was. Sub-HD resolution, no anti-aliasing, blur-filter, and a terribly inconsistent framerate that heavily affects controller/input lag at times.

Sony's patented "Edge" MLAA seems to be used in a lot of PS3 games nowadays, and that's a good thing (generally). Gives good anti-aliasing on most edges without blurring textures.

I think my main complaint about this game is that all this brightness and clear sky focus is making me hate my eye floaters even more
