Hmm, I went back and read the more about the game, and it seems like the PVP is open world. So I can just randomly attack any player I see in the world??? Or does it work differently??? I read the reason you dont wanna do that but it seems interesting. Im not a PVP guy myself, so not sure if that something I want to be bothered with, having players gank me and shit.

Nah you can't be attacked until level 45 in the beta, possibly level 50 at launch. So you get to level up and stuff before then. Even then there's punishment to those who gank you over and over.

If someone attacks and kills you while your PvP mode is switched off he will receive special karma points for this. A player gets 5000 karma points for each PK. If your karma is high you will be attacked by guards and other players even in peaceful areas where normal PvP is not allowed. As you see it’s rather difficult to be Player Killer.

There is only one way to decrease the amount of karma points – you need to kill monsters.

If your karma is high you will lose 5% of experience every time you die, instead of 2%. But there is good news: if the amount of experience at the current level is equal to nil the level will not be decreased. So you lose only experience you get at the current level.
The other disadvantage of high karma is that the more it grows the higher the chance of losing items is. The chance increases according the growth of your karma points and can reach 100%. The worst possible situation is: every time you die, you lose 5 items simultaneously and any player can take this loot after 1 minute.
There may be situations when you lose special stones which improve gear. These stones can’t be picked up.

Karma's a bitch.

Man, Valkyrie feels good.

Is the Warrior have somewhat the same skillset as the Valk?
I think I might test out Witch or Wizard. I tried Ranger for a bit and I didn't like it that much.

Ah, thanks for the info. Couldnt much about it else where, all I was getting was pvp videos of people fighting.

But, I bought it. Downloading now. I been waiting for this game. I need a good MMO to play, since Firefall 1.67 update slashed a lot of content so I got bored with that and elder scrolls online combat is just straight up not that fun.

This game seems to be the type of MMO i feel I can play over a few years again. Been a while since I've done that.

But shit, this beta and the division beta runs on the same days.............

How am I even gonna balance this shit.

A few of us are on Edan. I don't plan on playing too much this test though. Just wanted to get a feel for how valkyrie plays before the release.

It looks pretty

But I can't even get remotely excited for this. The gender/race locks are on the extreme end of the spectrum from what I've seen of MMOs. These feel like you're picking a set of predetermined characters (granted that you can customize to great lengths) and expecting to see the same character 100 times. I think its crap that you only have 3 classes available to you if you want to play a male character. And you're SOL if you want to be a female character that looks older than 18. Why is it that male spellcasters are old geezers but female children can pretty much match them? Are males incredibly stupid in this world?

I'll pass on this.

I might have another looksee if they add more genders to each class.

Edit: I guess there's no such as thing as male elves or female giants either. The former must grow from trees and the latter must pop out of the ground.

Huh? Only the tamer looks particularly young by default. I've had no issues making older looking characters. The gender locked classes are a legitimate concern though.

Any aussie here currently trying this beta? How's the ping and lag? I'm on the fence about preordering in case it's unplayable. I tried getting a key through giveaway but no luck so far.

Yeah I'm in. It doesn't feel too bad actually but I guess that's subjective. Seems to be a tiny delay which can make dodging difficult though hopefully some improvements can be made before launch. I'm having fun at least.

You can make anyone look older and there are no elves at all. Eventually all the classes will be represented by both genders, they won't all be exactly the same though. Witch and Wizard are, but the warrio and valkyrie are considered counterparts. The male/female ninja classes are pretty similar but have different ranged attacks I believe. Stuff like that.

I had fun playing today, even though I was doing the same starting quests I did multiple times during CBT1. The main difference was trying out Valkyrie. I'm gonna try to build my horse wagon over the weekend and start figuring out my crafting plans when the game releases. For release, my family is going to consist of a Sorcerer, Ranger, and a Valkyrie. I haven't settled on a 'main', but I will level each one up a bit for the energy points and contribution points.

I am also testing the Beta, and the game is both gorgeous and pretty fun so far - especially if you manage to log in during hours when the population is not at full. I already pre-ordered ( thanks to a friend raving about the game ), and now I'm not regretting that at all.

Ok. So I was going to join the "gaf server" but couldnt find it. I only have the options for Alustin and Jordine. Did I do something wrong?

Man, I envy everyone that can run it on high settings.

My old 460 GTX (OC'ed at 820Mhz right now) can't barely handle the game in medium settings(30ish outside, below 30 on the city, both on non crowded areas), and it doesn't look very good with that setting (minus the characters, they still look amazing).

Weird, considering the minimum requirements is a 9800GTX (I guess minimum they mean playing it with PS1 graphics) and the recommended is a 650GTX (close to a GTX 460).

Seems like the game is more resource heavy? I can play FFXIV at high settings at 60 fps just fine.

Shame because I loved what I played yesterday.

Sorry to be a bother more... But just three more questions...

1. How much build variety is there in the characters?
2. The website I noticed is EU? Or is it for both EU and NA?
3. Do we know this publisher is really going to be go all in for making the game work here in the west? ArcheAge had some similar promises and let me down. :(

Played this a bit last night and seems ok (very pretty!). One thing that really bothers me is: you can't rotate the camera around your character whilst moving, only whilst stationary. As soon as you start to move, your players direction is tied to the camera direction. Feels... horrible.

I prefer most 3rd person games whereby the camera is completely decoupled from the character movement & direction. Eg Witcher 3, Mario, TBH most games use this sort of scheme.

Anybody know if there is any way to change this?

Thanks.

Click and hold middle mouse button and rotate the camera. Don't think you can change the normal behavior though.

Man this game is complicated at first,jesus...first of all the UI is clunky in parts with the tutorials and voiced tips and all, windows on top of each other, etc etc...also cant play a Valkyrie because the first training quest, with steps 1,2,3,4,on the practice dummies, step 3 is not working, suppose to hit Q to protect but nothing happens...

Also I tried moving some of the UI around, especially the small health and mana bar that is right over your characters head...it interferes with the targeted ennemy, its annoying trying to find the monsters health bar right underneath that...can you move that or dismiss it all together...? also the small button prompts on the right of your character always on,I want that off,I know tab is seath, unseath weapon by now and so on...

Aye, my 780GTX can't run this game at high or very high either at 60 frames. have to drop to medium, and even then in some areas, drops below 60.

Man, Im bout tempted to blow a grand on a titan black right now.

That's even weirder, I would assume a 780GTX wouldn't have problems at high settings. This makes the recommended specs even more weirder, a 780 is WAAAY better than a 650.

Super pro tip for people who don't know: lean against sometime or sit down and then press R. You'll activate a free cam mode which works really well for taking screenshots.

Connection to Aus wasn't great tonight. Soured my enjoyment of launch. Knowing this could stop me purchasing. Could the megaserver potentially have a better connection?

Horse Taming is infuriating to figure out. The tutorial is too slow to show the next step, so I press space bar when I'm not supposed to.

Anyone know if there are any beta keys available anywhere? I'm on the fence about the game, would like to try it before committing to buy.

Just hope they'll fix the PVP in time. Otherwise "End/Metagame" is going to be an absolute mess.

Same thing for me. It's sticking me in the EU servers for some reason even though North America is checked on the launcher. Don't know if its because the NA servers are full or what.

You can turn off the small button prompts. Hit ESC, click edit ui (after the tutorial portion is over) and then click the littl eyeball on that window to turn it off.

For the most part the UI is pretty easily changed to how you want.

Also don't forget everyone you won't see your enemies HP go down when fighting it till you've fought that type enough and have "knowledge" on it.

Having played a few hours last night to about level 18, valk is pretty fun and I enjoy the combat, but holy shit everything else in the game feels so obtuse and frustrating to understand. Looking at some of the menus, I still have absolutely no idea how any of the systems even begin to work. I couldn't seem to figure out how to make anything from crafting even if it let me select mats, it would just say couldn't make anything, I can't gather from mobs even though I have all the tools, I think I accidentally bought a room in a house somewhere, but couldn't actually figure out how to get into my instance of it, only other peoples. I'm sure I'll figure it out in time, but its a bit overwhelming at first.

Also, there's a lot of typos in the subtitles, dialogue boxes that are just squares, and I'm pretty sure some of the subtitles were in German or something for one quest.

The world itself seems interesting enough, but I'm having trouble piecing it together. Doing stuff around Heidal, it sort of seems like they're being taken over, or at least financially getting fucked, but I wasn't really sure what the whole deal was. Some of the quest lines seem to end abruptly too. You run into the couple from the ruins earlier at the pumpkin farm talking to the alchemist there about the pumpkin ghosts, then you go examine some pumpkins for him, and that was it, there was no follow up beyond "yup, the pumpkins are evil."

The combat really is fun though, going in the revel camp for those quests, I'd be fighting like 5-6 guys at once, dodging around and stomping them. The shield throw skill is awesome as hell, and being able to cancel into that heavenly pillar spell or whatever that calls a spear down is sick.

What do you want them to "fix"?

Right now you can attack or defend yourself(-60k karma - killing the opponent) exactly four times before running into negative karma.
After that you have to kill several thousand mobs to counter the karma loss.

Edit: The problem is partly rooted in the fact that the game was originally supposed to be a very liberal sandbox game.
Sadly a lot of these things have been taken away from the final game resulting in the rather broken PVP system.

Any else noticed the water looks really dark, almost black, in that river you first come to near the starting area, where you kill all the Imp mobs.

Not sure if it is a graphical glitch, or by design. It's like the water has no transparency.

Running a 780Ti with latest drivers @1080p, most game settings at max (hi-end more turned on as well).

If you haven't already, you should soon be getting quests that involve crafting and gathering with information on what to do.

Totes adorbz!!! love it, and speaking of controller support how is it? Played it in alpha and had a difficult time using the 360 controller.

I play with the DS4 and moving around and combat controls well enough with a controller (only problem can be aiming when you're moving and attacking). I can see gamepad players falling behind in PvP. PvE should be fine.

Menus are clearly based on mouse, so they're not very accesible with a controller. You have to rely on using the mouse cursor with a stick (or the trackpad if you use a DS4).

Didn't play the alpha but I guess it's not much different?

Is there any poll/data on class distribution?

Don't want to go into the game bringing an overplayed class, but Valk is totally my playstyle. Seeing a lot of people in this thread playing Valk too.

I'd assume Ranger is probably the most played.

I'd assume Ranger is probably the most played.

I saw a strawpoll on the BDO subreddit, and sorcerer BARELY had top spot, people seem to like all the classes.

Speaking of sorcerers...

My main character i'll be using. I absolutely love the sorcerer moveset

Had my first official foray into the game last night. Only two servers and there is a metric ton of people all over the place and in every single channel. I had literally zero server issues the entire night which is promising and latency was pretty non-existent. The response times between when I move my character and see my character movement on another player's monitor was almost 1:1. I hope they are able to go to a megaserver solution for launch and maintain that kind of performance.

I rolled a Witch and a Sorceress and I'm planning to roll a Valkyrie before the beta ends. Whenever Ninja/Kunoichi is released, that will probably be my main but it will be Witch until then. Gameplay is great and the combat is really fun. I'm really intrigued by the trading, crafting, and housing system. Black Desert is doing a lot of really unique and interesting things which is refreshing after seeing so much retread in the genre.

The game is absolutely gorgeous and well optimized. I'm able to run at maximum settings with around 50-60 FPS. In extremely crowded areas my FPS dips but the performance impact feels minimal. It's hard to explain but it's not as jarring as in other MMOs when performance just drops like a brick and there is constant stuttering and frame skipping. It feels smoother overall. I did immediately disable 'other player' names so maybe that had some sort of positive impact.

The lack of traditional (or new/modern) PVE is disturbing but if the trading, gathering, crafting, NPC, and housing systems are robust enough, I could see myself being completely satisfied with doing just those kinds of activities and anything they add later would be a huge bonus. I don't like unbalanced (gear based) PVP but generally enjoy PVP so I might try some of that out. Bottom line for me is that if Black Desert can create the same type of rewarding loop in its side activities as a game like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, etc. can, then that would be enough for me. The world is simply huge, immersive, and beautiful. It's a joy to just run around and take in the scenery.

For a game being this close to launch there are still some concerning bugs such as quest dialogue turning into nothing but indiscernible blocks and as mentioned before, the game is light on PVE and group content, but I can see myself continuing to play this game if it is well supported and the cash shop is handled appropriately.

About that...

Prices are WAY too high for costumes. Most of them are in the $30+ range and are nearly the same price as the game itself.

Dye system is complete garbage. The dye mechanics in the game are absolutely wonderful as it has a dedicated interface and allows you to dye many different individual outfit components but... all the dye on the cash shop are from RNG boxes only. You cannot buy the specific color you want and to add to that, the dyes are one-time use and there is a huge variety and amount of variations you can get from a single RNG box. For example, if you wanted to dye an outfit completely red you might need 4-8 of the exact same red dye. You have to buy a red RNG dye box which can give you maybe 1 in 20 different variations of red. I think I bought around 20 RNG dye boxes to try and out and rarely had more than 2 of the same dye color. Yeah, this is garbage. At least we don't have 'dye subscriptions' like other F2P regions... lol

Cosmetic only? BULLSHIT. There are already many non-cosmetic only items. As I stated in this thread before, while they are not overtly P2W it does pave the way for more egregious stuff later on.

Pet food on the cash shop? WHY?

The pets are not that great right now. The dogs look acceptable but I'm more of a cat person and all of the cats look weird to me. I would also like to see more variety. Hopefully they will add some better ones later.

Why do I have to buy these gold coin things and then convert them to pearls? Why not just one shop currency? Maybe I'm missing something...

Hopefully they address a lot of these issues for launch and continued future service. As it stands, I feel like my purchase was justified and that I will get my money's worth out of the game. Looking forward to playing much more this weekend!

Man, ima have to watch a lot of videos before I jump back in this game.

All the stuff just goes way over my head.

Another MMO that suffers from the crazily busy UI and menus all over the place. It's taking me a while just to know what everything is. Im a fan of the simplistic/ minimalist type styles.

The new player learning experience is a serious drawback.

I'd rather watch videos of people who already figured it out to tell me and learn from their experiences.
