High End Off:

High End On:

Some in the guild were saying they can't see the difference but I see a lot of difference.

Now maybe it stopped raining or something, but for me, the ground stopped looking wet in the rain, after I turned off High End mode.

This is the best example of what HEM does. That entire fence/barricade is completely missing without it on, and that's not really that far away. Not to mention the missing windows/objects on the sides of the tower. Grass shadows just a few feet from your character are missing without it, too. Though that could just be slight time of day change, I suppose.

They really need to give us better control over object/shadow distance, completely separate from whatever else HEM might be doing.

Yeah. Without HEM, the pop in of stuff is really notable. You can't walk two steps without something popping in.

This game has an issue with personalization (character-wise) so if that's something you're looking for, yeah, you won't find it here. From the expensive outfits to the single use dye, they're trying everything in their power to push away those people, and it sucks.

However, if you're looking for a sandbox MMO where you can do pretty much whatever you want and feel progression, this is for you. I'm just about ready to build my first raft and I'm stoked, can't wait to build bigger and better boats and sail the open sea all day.

I can definitely get into that side of things, I set up a little production chain last night to make better fishing rods and although it was confusing as hell, it was satisfying once I got it flowing. Bigger projects like boats are going to be immense. I don't mean to be too down on the game or anything, I just Think that MMO too often feel like short lived cash grabs these days. But like I say, I think I'm a dinosaur in that respect, I still favour subscription models where I can play the game to get my customizations rather than slam in a credit card and click a button. I'm trying to see past that and just enjoy the world here, so I'll definitely give it a fair crack whilst I'm off work this week.

No some of us who run it with HEM off can see that stuff (as my screens show).

Really..figured it would be the top one since you can see more objects such as rocks, better rock formation and fuller looking tress in the distance.

No I think the time just changed a bit in between shots. The top one I took immediately (look at the chat) then I turned it on and took the HEM one. I think I took it too fast so maybe there was some pop in.

Just a quick question, any oceanic players tried the game and can report back playability?

Seems pretty good so far, there's a small amount of skill lag now & then but it's very playable. I haven't got to PvP yet though, so that might prove a bit more difficult.

how exactly do you go afk fishing?

Equip a fishing rod, walk up to a body of water, press space and walk away! Optionally tick the box to throw away white items, though doing so includes white fish too, though they're usually only worth between 1-2000 silver anyway.

I signed up hours ago and still haven't gotten an email. Looked on reddit and hundreds are experiencing the same thing.

Not a good look for future support if they can't even issue a response on this for launch weekend.

I finally got my steam controller working. Turns out I can't have both my monitor and tv tuned on at the same time. No clue why but an easy enough fix.

Yup, been waiting all day and still no response. Pretty frustrated with the lack of communication and this whole process tbh.

Kind of makes me not want to play the game.

It really looks fun and different than the average mmo though.

Really enjoying the guest pass so far - if I wasn't about to play a shitload of The Division I would be all over this. I really hope this game does well long term as I will definitely come back once I have the time.

I hate how witches can still look good while wizards are stuck with middle-aged men at best.

Aww, assumed the Character Creator would remain free. But it seems that it's over now.
I no longer have the time to play as much, so paying for MMORPG is off the hook.

Still, thanks to those that have been pasting your characters. They all look pretty good.

You have literally -got- to be trolling or joking. A one-time $30 buy for a full-fledged MMO is too steep now? No mandatory subscription. No 'optional' premium subscription. Literally no other costs but an [admittedly expensive] cash shop with purely cosmetic and convenience goods, none of which even step close to P2W? That's too steep now?

That's what some people call steep now, yikes.

I guess they are too used to the free 2 play model, which honestly I don't prefer at all.

I think the price for BDO is more than reasonable.

Yes it can be a barrier of entry especially in a genre that is mostly F2P nowadays. Guest passes wouldn't be so popular otherwise.

I'm on the fence myself. $30 is a significant amount of money for me to spend on a video game, full-fledged MMO or not.

Ugh. In my opinion, Free 2 Play ruined Blade and Soul. Shitty cash shop, legions of gold bots, constant spamming, trolls...I'll take that barrier of entry, please.

Even if it's a 'barrier of entry' to call $30 steep I think is a little out there considering the quality of the game and the purely cosmetic cash shop. Even at $60 it's still a good buy IMO.

F2p or not isn't why the game had gold spammers, heck TESO/Guild Wars 2 both had them in DROVES.

The reason you don't see them a lot in BDO is because you can not trade with people, so you can't really trade for gold easily.

That's cool for you. Doesn't change that other people might feel differently. I'm aware that the B2P is usually a better way to handle things but I personally only fuck around with MMOs for one or two weeks so F2P usually serves me just fine.

One or two weeks isn't even enough to scratch the surface for Black Desert. If you really think you'll drop it that quickly, i wouldn't suggest buying it. But, the B2P model is there so we don't have the Pay o win model that the KR version has (i believe)

---

Also, FYI, we have 10 new spaces in the guild as of right now.

You know the funny thing? By all accounts, Black Desert Online is F2P and P2W as -fuck- in Korea, because that's just the system there. People play in online cafes more than home, and it's just more successful and games that have barriers for entry often fail due to the fact few people are gaming at home. But instead of just blindly porting it over, they actually completely reconfigured the game's systems to actually accommodate a western audience.

$30 is steep? Compared to what?

Whoa calm down folks i meant steep for me considering if i'd be into it or not, since i never really got into ARK when i bought it. Dont wanna drop $30 make my character and then just drop it in like 2 hours like i did ARK. god damn...

You said this

30 dollars for a sandbox mmo is abit steep

so of course people are going to take it that way. There's a difference between saying any sandbox MMO is too steep for $30, and saying that you are unsure whether it'll be $30 well spent to you

I'll take one. What should I do? not logged in right now.
