I found myself several rare drops on my Witch, so I made myself a hot warrior guy to make use of them. :D

Hello, after some deliberation I decided to buy the game and give it a shot. I noticed it says there's no raid/instance content (something I wasn't really a fan of in FF14, my most recent/most played MMO), which sounds good to me - but what is it replaced with?

I'll be on the EU server mentioned in OP, I'll probably apply to that guild at some point - just waiting for this 31GB to download!

What's it replaced by? An utterly massive open world. An extensive Civilization like node system. A detailed crafting system. World bosses as far as the eye can see. Guild PvP. Open world dungeons. etc.

Really tempted by this couple of questions if I may?

Does it have a global auction house? (Ie, there isn't a separate auction house per city or whatever).

Do I need the explorers lack or is the base game enough to get going without being frustrated?

Sounds like I'm going to have a good time. Thanks.

There's no global auction house!

And no, you don't need the explorer's pack to fully enjoy the game :D

The last few days have been torture!
I bought the travelers pack on Wednesday and immediately went to work in Sunderland, then Ludlow, then Dublin, and I've just got in. I'm going in having only browsed the beta/OT and code begging thread. No videos no Reddit no official forums. You've been my hype. I'm on 26% and cruising at 25MB/s.
I'd love a spot in the EU guild and I can be on the 'bounce when full' list (I work in sports media and Cheltenham is dragging me away for 8 days towards the end of the week)
It's safe to say I'm excited, curtains are shut, I've got soft drinks snacks and fruit 29%...)
Off to give away this code and watch Survivor and should be ready (launcher wobbles notwithstanding)

1/ Can someone tell me if the game has tutorial/quests explaining the node or conversation systems ?
I looked to use nodes too early and that led to a big waste of time, so I thought yeah okay let's wait. But now that I have passed some hours in Velia there is no hint of a quest explaining nodes or conversation like there was for crafting.

2/ How can I enter the EU guild ? I don't know how to talk to other players yet (UI is not really good...). I tried adding the two designed Gaffers to my friend list but so far I didn't get an answer. Maybe I did it wrong or the clan/guild is full ?

So I got some dyes as a reward for time played and I found out dye is single use?? I want to like this game but I really am not feeling the devs on a lot of their decisions tbh.

I sort of feel like MMO are not for me these days. Cash shops are a cancer. I'll still play for a while, been afk fishing since I've been working the last couple of days and I'll give it a real crack next week. I'm sure I can get my 20 quids worth out of it at least for the box price, but I wonder if MMO are just going down a dark path to destruction or maybe I'm just a dinosaur. I'd love to find an MMO that I could enjoy long term again though.

- Repost from last page, as I was #1459 and could be missed by a lot of 50ppp Gaffers. Sorry but I could really use some input, the game is not really mechanism friendly -

How does gathering/crafting work?

I have a pick axe but I never see any mining nodes.

Feldspar mining is annoying, you have to walk over rocks and hope to have the gathering prompt appear. Copper mining is a lot less tedious, the mineral is clearly distinguishable in this case.

This game is starting to get addicting even though it runs like shit. I love how deep the systems are, its like the Crusader Kings 2 of MMOs. I have next to no fucking clue what im doing but im enjoying it. The 'move to' option is genius, never knew how much i wanted that before in other mmo games.

Has anyone tried playing with an Xbox one controller, and is it playable like that?

For #1, I believe there are some quests in Velia given by the blacksmith that teach you a bit about nodes. Here's an explanation I gave earlier in the thread.

To go a bit more in depth, nodes are indicated by large icons on the map. Typically towns, farms, camps, and roads. When you've uncovered one of these on the map, you'll see a white line between nodes you've invested contribution points in and ones they can connect to. Cities are free and automatically considered active. So starting off you'll see some white lines connecting Velia to Loggia farm, a coastal cave, etc. To invest in these nodes and make them active you need to go to that location and speak to the node manager and select node management. This will bring up the map along with an option in the top left that says something like "invest contribution". Now you'll have a yellow line between Velia and this node. By doing this you activate the node and if you've uncovered any other nearby nodes you may see a white line leading to them. If the node has sub nodes (looks like gathering tool icons) you can invest in those from this same menu.

So essentially you create paths between areas by activating adjacent nodes like this. Once you have a path you can send workers to gather stuff (if you invested in a sub node). You also significantly increase the value of items sold to trade merchants when you connect the origin point to the place you're selling at. In this example if you catch fish at the Velia docks you can take them to Loggia farm if you've connected it and get a little bit more money. The longer routes give bigger bonuses and prices are affected by supply so if you're trying to trade you want to find items few people are trading and deliver them as far as possible.

And while you have to speak to the node manager to invest contribution points in a node, you can remove them at any time via the world map. Note that if you've invested in a sub node you must uninvest there first before you can take the point out of the main one. Also you can't uninvest in a node that's in the middle of a chain. You need to start at the end and work your way back.

Playing with a ds4. Its playable but KB+mouse is better, especially in menu navigation

This game has an issue with personalization (character-wise) so if that's something you're looking for, yeah, you won't find it here. From the expensive outfits to the single use dye, they're trying everything in their power to push away those people, and it sucks.

However, if you're looking for a sandbox MMO where you can do pretty much whatever you want and feel progression, this is for you. I'm just about ready to build my first raft and I'm stoked, can't wait to build bigger and better boats and sail the open sea all day.

Hi, any spots left in the US guild (Orwen server)?

I'm currently lv26 Tamer and hoping to play this game for a long time

How balanced would you say the pvp is. I got myself a guest pass and I am going to log in later today, but I doubt I'd get a taste of it before the trial is up.

balanced in terms of gear and skill not necessarily class vs class.

Not many of us know. Since you have to be level 45 (IIRC) to start open world pvp, and the 1v1 duel arena isn't in the game yet, just about no one except for level grinders and KR players are even there yet

Yeah, the dye system more than anything needs a massive change. There are so many dyes to collect they have no reason to make them one time use, it'd take forever for people to collect them all on a permanent palette. They can still sell them through the cash shop, but should add some stuff to the world and crafting too.

IMO people are focusing on the wrong issue. People are up in arms about the limited armor available when they should be focusing on the dye system. Having a unique color scheme on your dye is what will set you apart from everyone else wearing the same armor. It's going to be much easier for the devs to make the dye system permanent or improved than it is to just add a whole bunch of new armor considering the quality of the models.

Did anyone have issues with the account verification email?

I registered over an hour ago and no email.

Just want to play this today with my wife :(

I've seen several people complain about the amity system, so here's a guide.

It's written by Dulfy, who is pretty big in the GW2 community for guides.

The entire system is confusing as hell.

Saw this via the Giant Bomb quick look and while the game itself didn't really grab me the character creator looked pretty great...

I've read that it's available to be downloaded for free separately from the game itself, but when I go to their site ( https://www.blackdesertonline.com/events/ccm/ ) there is no download link as far as I can make out, unless I'm going blind.

Is there actually a way to get the character creator on it's own and does anyone have a download link to the page/file itself?

EDIT: Thanks for the quick response Tunesmith :)

The separate creator is no longer available.

It's a bit annoying that you can't have your workers mine Rough Stone, you need its refined form for just about any other craft.

I just buy the Blackstone powder from the marketplace, it's pretty cheap. I've got better things to do with my energy than mining rocks for rough stone.

Finally getting comfortable with a lot of the games systems and the combat, there is truly too much shit I want to do in this game. I'm going to be very active for the next few days (off of work, GF is out of town) so I'm really hoping I can get into the NA guild and start helping out. I'll start hounding officers for an invite when I log back on tomorrow.

I switched to a DS4 as well, but I agree kb/mouse is overall better. In my case I am using a wireless kb/trackpad to supplement the controller so I can couch game.

Is there a quality wiki for this game? I have so many questions (btw thanks to the posters who told me how to fish!):
1. What's the buy a house stuff?
2. What are workers, how do I use them/why?
3. How do I change my character's appearance? She's got these awful default threads and I want her to look fly.
4. How do I chat to other players that I see?

I was looking to check this out and I'm also having the e-mail confirmation issues others seem to be having. This has apparently been going on for hours now. Guess they're really overloaded.

For adding friends, we use character name, not family name?

For some reason, despite the game encouraging alt characters, the game rarely EVER uses your family name. It's real fucking stupid. BDO really has the naming system completely backwards. Only family name should have to be unique. The game should allow through family name, and guild chats use family name so you can remember everyone

I suppose I should've added myself to the wait list ages ago.

NA
Name: Yorek
Family: Spiritreaver

It's not exactly a "wait" list, it's more of a "how many people do we need to add" list. I don't think we're adding with any priority, but I also haven't talked to Ashodin about it

Some info regarding this...

1. General tips

Sometimes, the confirmation email takes up 90 minutes to be delivered. This has been reported by users on gmail. Since the issue is not on our side, we cannot provide any assistance.

If you have not received the confirmation email when you registered your account on the Black Desert Online official Website, please check the "spam" folder of your mailbox or, if you are using Gmail, the "Promotions" tab of your inbox.

If you cannot find the confirmation email, you can try to send it back when you connect on your account on the Black Desert Online official Website. You should also try to connect from a different web browser.

I love how they say it's not on their end. Seems to me like it is because people on different email accounts are all having this issue.

Got a buddy pass and I'm teetering on the edge of buying this. On the one hand, I love what I've played the last three days, and I can see myself betting super into this. I love the fact that there's no instanced raiding and dungeons, no endless gearing treadmill, and a really deep commerce system. Combat feels awesome, even playing witch, which I'm told is the "slowest" class

The problems for me at this point are the F2P elements despite the $30 price tag, the lack of character diversity, engine wonkiness (I've heard bad things about world bosses desyncing at this point) and uncertainty about how long the legs are on this thing.

I may just spend $30 on it alone because it does away with the gear treadmill nonsense in most MMOs, and it reminds me of what I wanted GW2 to actually be. Can anyone more experienced with the game comment on any of this?

Yeah it's a shame. Hope it isn't an indication of the support and stability for the actual game.

I have a few questions about fishing if anyone knows:

Does it take less time for things to bite as my skill goes up? It takes so long right now.
It says Fishing resources are exhausted. Does this mean too many people are fishing in the same spot?
How do I check my skill level in fishing?

Thanks
