This describes my sentiments perfectly, though FF XI made me feel that way as well for a number of years. However, it was heavily inspired by EQ, so that is probably why.

Yes, this game kinds of reminds me to my FFXI days.... and I should probably be scared about that lol I'm actually glad that DS3 is coming so it won't let me get too hooked to this.

Also hoping Dark Souls 3 will steal my attention from BDO. Can always leave BDO running in the tray to keep my workers on the job and AFK-fish while I play Dark Souls III.

Yeah, a day or two into BDO I said to a friend that this game was giving me feels I haven't felt since first stepping into Vanadiel at NA launch back in my college days.

As wonderful and fun and refreshing as that is, it's also a little scary when I think about the potential for time vortex!

It's sad how I'm still debating if I should bite the bullet and get into this game and it's massive timesink or actually avoid it and use the time for more productive things...

Yes, sounds like a plan. Leaving the game to the tray is such a nice addition

Thankfully I don't think I can get addicted to an MMO again after FFXI (first MMO and all of that). That I'm taking BDO with a different pace (completely ignoring endgame) helps. Shit was bad for me with FFXI endgame.

Yeah, there's no way I'm going back to that king-camping life (or anything like it)...
if 'life' is even an appropriate word

Thanks for explaining that when you set a horse up for breeding it makes it public, game. Lost my horse that I've been training for a week because someone was just sitting there refreshing the thing, waiting. Literally less than a second and he was gone.

Fucking stupid. I'm so upset.

Wait what do you mean?

There are some options when you go to breed. You can put your horse up on a public market for others to breed with and collect the fees or if you want to make it so that only you can breed with it, you have to pay an extra fee (35K) which is obviously worth it if you are trying to breed two specific horses and aren't trying to make money from breeding fees.

Especially since you get the money back after the breeding is complete.

This game is something else, the overflow of stuff you see and can do when you first log in can be a tad overwhelming.

I really wanted to roll a tamer but the character stance really ruins it for me, so many customisation options but not a single one that will allow me to get rid of the pigeon feet.

Started a wizard and I think I'm going to play a warrior. Pleased that I got him looking a little younger than the usual gandalfs, at least.

Despite some misgivings I do like this game, a lot. Guess I'm buying it. Thumbs up for how unrestricted guest pass play is.

Does anyone know a reputable place to buy a guest pass or two? Didn't see any on the Buy/sell/trade thread, and I wouldn't be thrilled about buying one from a chinese gold seller, but I want to make sure this game runs on my pc and a friends pc before dropping $30.

Edit: Nevermind I just bought it.

I have some guest passes left. No need to buy anything. Unless you're talking about something other than the 7 day ones we got.

EDIT: Few minutes too late I guess :p Sorry about that.

Does the contribution point system, crafting and farming get explained via quests given by the black little ghost thing? I've been just wandering around doing the occasional kill 3 of x quest. The first 10 lvl just flew passed.

Not really. There are some tutorial quests but they aren't going to teach you everything. Make sure you have all quests enabled or the life quests will never show up. I think only combat quests are enabled by default.

Wow you did a really good job on the face. I like the way my wizard turned out but he still looks like he's in his 40's.

Thanks for that. It was definitely turned off. I've noticed that a lot of npc have an exclamation mark above their head, does this just indicate that they have a conversation option and not necessarily a quest?

The conversation minigame is something else I can't get my head around, does it actually offer you any benefits?

When you have the chat box open (with the Quest, Conversation, Shop etc buttons) you can see in the bottom left a circle with a number in the middle and often some icons scattered around it. If you hover over the icons it'll tell you what it is and how much rep you need with the character to access that item. It can be a dialog option (knowledge) or a quest or access to special items in their shop. In the case of items to buy, if the item requires 300 rep then that rep is lost when you buy the actual item.

So, i got ganked by a warrior and a wizard while on the way to a quest. After the wizard kept stunning and freezing me and forcing me to pop my potions, I hit V at the last second for my escape, healed up, and when i popped back i tried fighting them back, and somewhere in the fight the wizard ran off and left me with the warrior. I took out half of his HP with a full powered Shard Explosion, knocked him down with Abyssal Flame and used Claws of Darkness while he was down, then Dark Flame into Ultimate Dark Flame for the fire DOT as he was getting up. He started running, some random person in a ghillie suit hit him with a grab attack and slammed him to the ground, i was able to close the distance with Rushing Crow, and as he was running off again I finished him off with a single Claws of Darkness swipe

I was shaking afterwards, i was not expecting to come out alive.

Man I know they won't but IMO Ranger should need a tweak.

Don't realy care if it's the best shit in PvP when it's a class that you constantly need to chug MP pots every 10 seconds.
It's really annoying to level up even though I love the combat of the class because of the constant running out of MP like crazy every 4 skills.

Meanwhile I can spam the shit out of skills with my Sorc for 3 more times the damage and 3 times less MP consumption

And the MP skill doesn't help much because you need to invest a shit ton of points of it (because every upgrade only adds 1 MP per tick and there's a bloat of them) and you end up gimping your combat skills.

Are you using the explosive multi arrow combo thing to kill groups? That's doesn't use much mana. Evasive explosion shot and then when you're doing it hit left mouse button. I just did 100 cultists in less than 5 mins without needing to chug a single potion

Yep. I feel like I shouldnt upgrade them, they cost more MP upgraded ad probably I dont need that extra damage as much till higher levels.

Has anyone bought anything from the cash shop?

I keep reading conflicting information regarding the cash bed and that the buff depletes over time when used. Others are saying the resting buff with the cash bed is infinite.

I don't know ranger, but a sorc can burn through their MP fast. We may have a large pool but it's relatively hard to get it back at all later on without enough skills. Spirit Absorption 2 makes this a whole lot easier though, where every attack supposed to grant Darkness Fragments gives another fragment, meaning multi-hit moves (Abyssal Flame, hits 3 times, gives 5-6 fragments) now generates either 50% or 100% more fragments. It used to take me 20 seconds to get from 0 to 30 fragments, now it takes like 7-10 seconds.

Anyone have an extra guest pass? I've really been on the fence about the game. My first love was UO and I love sandbox type games but the grinding and open pvp has me questioning if I should buy it or not.

Do any of you guys know if Ranger, Sorceress, Tamer or Valkyrie play well on a controller?

I'm pretty interested in this but am terrible with using keyboards for more than basic movement/aiming in games :p

Been extremely excited for this since its first Korean trailers were posted. Would love to give it a shot if anyone would be willing to share a US guest pass. Thank you!

EDIT: Received pass - thanks!!

Well my Sorc is low level 20ish and my Ranger 35 so I can only talk about those levels. Sorc at that level is faster, stronger and less MP consuming so far, but I don't know at higher levels.

Sorc and Ranger plays good enough on controller. Imo Sorc is more suited to controller, but I play them both on the DS4.
Sometimes you may face the problem that using a skill doesn't let you have a free finger to move the camera for aim but you adjust to it (KB+mouse will alway be better in that regard).

PVE as a Ranger does make me feel pretty weak and MP greedy. I watch my friends just glide through enemies while I have to kite them for quite a bit, partially to get my MP back up, partially because my damage doesn't seem very high.

Mana is only an issue if you're fighting deep red or purple enemies. Because of the level difference, you're missing attacks. Whiffing the MP restoring attacks really hurts your clear time a lot.
