How do you increase DPS apart from leveling up through combat and getting fancy weapons? I know you get HP from eating stuff or something.

fancy weapons and gear are basically the only way I know of to increase DPS outside of gems that you can slot into weapons and gear that you have.

strength has no bearing on damage in this game.

Gotta upgrade weapons using weapon stones and get high tier accessories.

The grind is real in this game, halfway thru 55, trying to get to 56 and stop worrying about leveling.

Eating food levels up your HP, so you gain additional HP, and some classes have moves based on the user's total HP, so levelling up HP can potentially increase DPS.

Also, levelling up your breath increases your stamina - again some moves from some classes are affected by Stamina, the more of it you have, the more you can chain certain moves, again increasing your DPS.

Heck, levelling your strength will increase your weight limit, which will allow you to carry more pots/food, which again can increase your DPS.

All about perspective. Obviously most of your DPS will come from gear, but as explain above you can supplement it, and even a tiny percent can mean the difference between winning and losing.

Wouldn't optimizing attack rotation be the the #1 way to increase dps?

Gear has a way bigger impact than "skill" in this game, assuming you're comparing players of similar skill. Yeah, someone with +15 weapon who only holds click for basic attacks is not going to do as much damage as someone with weaker weapon doing a more robust attack pattern, but that should go without saying. So that kind of optimization is only (maybe) #1 once you've capped out on other things like AP and skill ranks.

Skill ranks provide large boosts in the damage percentages on skills, so raising those is probably the "first" way to boost damage.

After that, weapon enchantment and other AP boosts from equipment which will boost all damage--most/all(?) skill damage is percentage based so more skill ranks makes weapon enchantments more potent, and vise versa.

Consumables (food and elixir) for damage or accuracy buffs probably comes in third.

Raising secondary stats like max hp/mp, stamina, etc. provide situational damage boosts in indirect ways (able to do 1 more attack while moving, able to cast 1 more spell before stopping to siphon, etc.).

Optimizing skill use will definitely help (and it's one of the only things that will help once your gear is maxed), but adding AP is gonna be more effective, always, from what I've read/played, unless you just stand there and left click all day, in which case gettin' gud will probably be your best potential damage boost. As Slightly Live said, every little bit helps.

Thanks for the help as always guys. Are any of you still using a gamepad? I went from kb to gamepad early on and now I'm too used to it to switch back, but I only know how to do like 1/3 of my acquired skills, lol. I check the input interface and I'm wondering if there just aren't enough buttons on a (PS4) pad or if there are commands on the default setup that are useless (I'm thinking menu shortcuts and the like... I always have my wireless kb nearby for menu stuff) and could be better assigned. I'm a ranger, if that matters.

Unrelated, I can't figure out how have Epheria recognized as one of my nodes. I purchased a house there and have it connected along the northern border all the way to Velia, yet when try to trade or transport it doesn't show as part of my nodes. Is it because I went before hitting a certain level or completing some other prerequisite (I just hit lvl 30)? I've tried connecting a bunch of nodes that looked useless for my fishing ambitions, like the quarry or the orc areas, but the only option I see if I choose "transport" in Epheria is Calpheon, which I can't connect through the northern route because I can't find a node manager in the masked owl forest.

As for Epheria, I'm not sure. Even when I had it linked to Calpheon via the Quint hill/troll fort area nodes I couldn't transport goods to it from storage and I'm level 46. I unlinked it since I don't need it linked at the moment, but it did seem weird that I couldn't send stuff there. When I'm at that storage manager I can transport goods out of there, so... I dunno. It was counting as linked for the purposes of trade managers, at least (have to link the "fort" node up the cliff there to connect out to other nodes). For now I just manually drop black stone powder off there when I get low so my worker can continue making sunflower crates.

Does anyone have a good youtube tutorial video for beginners? I just got a seven day code and want to try this game without wasting too much time

I have a connection between Epheria Port and Olvia, and a connection between Olvia - Florin - Calpheon. When I accidentally broke the connection between Calpheon and Florin by uninvesting in the Khuruto Cave node, Calpheon and Epheria Port were no longer connected. So I undid that change.

Not all cities can transport to all the other cities. Calpheon can transport to Epheria, but Heidel City and Velia cannot. I forget if Olvia can. Calpheon can transport to Keplan, but Velia cannot.

This was a way to connect all towns pre-Mediah using 55 CP only.

The only way to waste time in BDO is to literally stand around and do nothing.
Or to keep remaking your character because how they look in-game is not quite how they looked in the character creator.

Doing just about anything, even walking around, will progress your character. Quests in the early part of the game (and throughout) serve to teach you how to fight, travel, do node and worker management, and use most of the various life skills such as cooking, gathering, fishing, and alchemy. Some things, like horse breeding, aren't really explained by quests, but guides are out there.

There are a ton of things to do in this game so you may find a video guide too overwhelming or too focused on just one or two specific things. If you had specific things you were interested in trying it would be easier to give some info (tl;dr: I don't know of a video like you want).

I'm trying to make a Tamer right now and this is super annoying.

The 24 hours for deletion doesn't help either. Please buy our 30 day appearance change coupon!
Actually a really good deal compared to just buying 1 appearance change coupon, but it shouldn't be needed.

They should really allow us to change the appearance for a short time after creation. Or give us a better preview of what our characters look like during actual gameplay.

They look exactly like they do in the creation screen.

I don't get it?

It's mainly that the range and angles of in-game lighting can't be previewed in the character creator. So once you're in game you may see that the lighting reveals that your hair coloration and facial shape aren't quite what you thought you were getting.

You can select a bunch of different lighting settings in the creator.

I think it's almost identical to what you get in game.

It also only takes about an hour to get to level 15 or so, more than enough time to try a character out.

Back on the game, I got my ranger/archer to 45 than thought I'd try Sorceress and am loving it. Up to 43 already and haven't gone back. Alts work so well with being able to share storage, gear, knowledge etc.

Have been playing with a 360 controller since day 1 and still working well (with the odd keyboard press needed here and there and keeping the mouse close for shopping.

I know you can, but they're not. Yes, you can adjust some brightness and hue in the character creator, but the shadowing and lighting angles in the character creator do not mirror the game world. In my case I remade my witch and tamer like three times each because of minor facial structure or hair highlight intensity things that weren't even really visible in the character creator and only showed up once light hit my character's face at specific angles in-game. It's a remarkable character creator, but it really fails in this one area (giving a game-world backdrop and letting you manually adjust lighting direction like XIV or B&S do). I'm still not entirely happy with either character but they're good enough to where I don't feel like remaking them again or paying for the appearance changer coupon.

It also only takes about an hour to get to level 15 or so, more than enough time to try a character out.
Yeah, if you just want to try a class and are happy with the look, it's no problem. The problem is 24 hour deletion queue that locks up a character slot and name if you want to remake your character.

As someone with 9 gigs of screenshots, many portraits, I'll agree to disagree that there's a noticeable difference.

At least not in my game.

Witch is the biggest offender imo. I have remade mine a few times mainly because it looks like they have white paint chalked all over their face. It never looks that bad during the creation process, but seems to once I get in game. You can disagree that there's a noticeable difference, but I've seen the complaint from enough people that it isn't a one off thing.

The models are basically the same between char.creator and ingame, but none of the lighting presents match some of the lighting conditions in-game (hi, fluorescent hair).

Also, some sliders are "bullshit" in the sense that in-game there's fixed sliders per portions of the slider bar, so you may have, for example, a concrete leg lenght of the character and when you're done it's not 1:1 the same in-game.

They fixed that with the witch in the previous patch for the Korean version. Not sure if English version is up to date yet.

NA PLAYERS:

This +life EXP event is broken. Get your life skill on this weekend.

It's somewhere between +150%-200% XP.

Again? last week was broken for EU players lol

EDIT: ah, Im reading that its only in NA, and its because of the EU bug. Kinda stupid IMO, considering they're different servers. Also, the EU wasn't even announced like the NA weekend EXP. I didn't really took profit till sunday when it happened.

I thought we knew this? I tried telling you guys in guild chat but no one seemed to pay attention. -shrug-

It's only for Fishing, Trading, and Training though.

It's a catch-up event for NA because of the exp EU got http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/70197-na-catch-up-exp-weekend/
We knew there would be an event, but it was supposed to be 10%. EU's rate was a bug at ~300%. No one knew what NA would get: 10%, or the bug. It seems like we're splitting the different and getting somewhere around +150%.

I guess, wouldn't make sense to call it a catch-up event if it only ended up being 10% though.

Its good to hear they fixed it. I haven't tried making a witch since the last patch so I can't say if the fix has made it over to NA/EU or not yet.

Turns out my permaban from reddit is because there was some sort of compromised IP detected by them from my computer/IP. Cox has been sending me warnings saying something similar, but my PC scans clean with literally everything I try. Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, McAfee, ESET. Nothing I download and scan with detects anything. I was hoping I was just getting a bad IP from Cox or something when they refresh my IP, but I guess not.

Guess it's time to go back to nuking my PC a couple times a year again. No point in using anti-virus or anti-malware software if they're not going to detect shit. Constantly reformatting is the biggest pain in the ass..

I moved over the Guild Leadership to ROBOKITTYZILLA because I'm getting very busy lately and have smaller time to play. But it was fun while it lasted!

Apparently we get a free character slot for the release of the 2 new classes. I'm happy they told us now, but I already deleted a slot to make room.

Again, it is better than finding out from the patch notes but it would be nice if they could announce things a little earlier.

RNG stat rolls on level up are pure basura, friends.

Best part about it is: If you decide to reroll, you lose out on the skillpoints gained from the account-wide leveling achievements.
