Black Ops 6 best performing CoD in 10yrs (Half of PC players on GamePass // First time xbox players outnumber PS)

I'll throw you a bone:

Gameplay-wise, Blops6 is the best COD to date.

I wouldn't know. I'm still stuck AFK until Friday and have yet to play. Been a rough month.

Looks to be well received though which is good, as its my go to game in-between games, id hate it if MS managed to fuck this up as well.

Right. That thread was created in July 2023. The last reported number of GP subscribers at the time was 25 million. So 70-80% is between 17.5 and 20 million.

Yep, that "nearly 70-80%" figure is from before they forced all Xbox live subscribers to become "gamepass" subscribers.

Even the "nearly" thing makes me laugh. They're already giving a range, so now that range becomes even more ambiguous. Could have been 65%, could have been 70%, could have been 80%, who the fuck knows.

Yeah its difficult to guage just how many ultimate subscribers there are but on the lower end like Topher says 17-20 million, its still an awful lot of people with access to COD for no additional cost. Nuts.

Is platform only hardware? or is Platform now Xbox? or Microsoft gaming?
You're statement is not a fact, no matter how much you want it to be.

They are far from done as a platform holder. See you in ten years.
A lot of people here still think like its 2006.

They can't see the forest for the trees :messenger_sunglasses:

I'm playing on Xbox Series X via GamePass, and I'm having a blast

That said, I probably wouldn't be playing the game if I had to buy it individually.

Yep. It is the quintessential litmus test.
I think that placing too much weight on any title, even a behemoth like CoD, is a mistake. Assuming gaming subscriptions will function similar to something like Netflix (big assumption maybe) spikes in users are pretty rare, it's more a constant increase year over year that is needed. You need to reach the 'I guess I'll just keep it' threshold and then do enough to not fall under the 'why am I still paying for this' level.

Things appear to be stagnant for a while. I see this year as make or break for the service and for Phil.

You have what appears to be the best COD in ages, followed up by a steady stream of AAA & AA games to keep people. They need Stalker 2 to be good and Indy to be at least decent.

If the next 6 months doesn't work out for them it never will.

100% agreed. And I think that's the challenge - which is why I'm very pessimistic about this whole idea of a successful Game Pass.

Nothing they have done so far has worked with user retention. Everything is pinned on COD. Even if it absolutely breaks all records and brings in, let's say, 10 million new subscribers - making it a resounding success - what will retain those users, at least for the next 12 months until the new COD launches?

Games like Flight Simulator, Indiana Jones, Stalker 2, Avowed, etc. are not gonna cut it. Hence, my pessimism.

And I don't think it is unfair either to have so much high expectations from COD, because it is extremely expensive to make. So lost revenue will automatically put this pressure on COD.

Bolded is the main reason why these streaming services will not be the success some think they'll be. Not for the foreseeable future.

This already is a major issue for streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Prime.
For gaming the issue will be even bigger, as the content is much more 'demanding' irt time investment per title.

Then there is a massive list of f2p titles like Fortnite, Warzone, Overwatch, Apex Legends, The First Descendant, Warframe, etc that allow players to have continuous content for free.

Getting people to sub is difficult as is, retaining them will be even harder. And the list of f2p titles is ever growing.

On PC it's all the free giveaway games as well. Between Epic and Amazon there are so many games given away that within a year you will have a library of maybe a hundred games and that's been somewhat selective. I quit gamepass for the first half of the year as I had more games than I could possibly play just given to me for free.

Tbf, the amount of f2p games available and the increase in quality makes me wonder why I keep paying for PS+.

My stepson is the main reason I got a yearly sub now, as he likes FC (Fifa), although he mostly plays Fortnite.

This was my exact thought when HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 mentioned he heard things will change if this doesn't work out for them. To place that much weight and hope on one game to save your service just doesn't seem logical. Now maybe it will work and COD is just that strong that people will sign up, see what GP offers and stick around. I just don't see that happening though. I personally think $20\month for gaming sub is just to much.
