Ask in the OT, none of us actually play videogames. We only squabble about black ops and xbox. This maybe the first COD I'm interested since the original MW. Do I need to play the previous BL: Ops series to catch up?

I'll throw you a bone:Ask in the OT, none of us actually play videogames. We only squabble about black ops and xbox.
If this doesn't move any significant long term numbers, nothing will. It probably won't.Their goal is actually 100M subs by 2030![]()
I'll throw you a bone:
Gameplay-wise, Blops6 is the best COD to date.
Right. That thread was created in July 2023. The last reported number of GP subscribers at the time was 25 million. So 70-80% is between 17.5 and 20 million.
You're good, it's great.I wouldn't know. I'm still stuck AFK until Friday and have yet to play. Been a rough month.
Looks to be well received though which is good, as it's my go to game in-between games, id hate it if MS managed to fuck this up as well.
Yep, that "nearly 70-80%" figure is from before they forced all Xbox live subscribers to become "gamepass" subscribers.

Even the "nearly" thing makes me laugh. They're already giving a range, so now that range becomes even more ambiguous. Could have been 65%, could have been 70%, could have been 80%, who the fuck knows.

A lot of people here still think like its 2006.![]()
Is platform only hardware? or is Platform now Xbox? or Microsoft gaming?
You're statement is not a fact, no matter how much you want it to be.
They are far from done as a platform holder. See you in ten years.
Yeah, being last place for your entire existence and having to become a 3rd party publishers to stay relevant is the pinnacle of 4D chess.A lot of people here still think like its 2006.

To be fair in there imaginary world there in first place.Yeah, being last place for your entire existence and having to become a 3rd party publishers to stay relevant is the pinnacle of 4D chess.
Yep. It is the quintessential litmus test.If this doesn't move any significant long term numbers, nothing will. It probably won't.
Id expect yet another pivot to strategy #700032.
Buying this on PS5 Pro. Give me that sweet Ray Tracing
I got you.Who's gonna tell him?
There is no ray tracing on any platform at this time.Buying this on PS5 Pro. Give me that sweet Ray Tracing

Its in the config files on PC apparently so maybe its coming in an update.Missed opportunity. We should have let this ride and wait for him to talk about how RT was so much better than performance mode.
I think that placing too much weight on any title, even a behemoth like CoD, is a mistake. Assuming gaming subscriptions will function similar to something like Netflix (big assumption maybe) spikes in users are pretty rare, it's more a constant increase year over year that is needed. You need to reach the 'I guess I'll just keep it' threshold and then do enough to not fall under the 'why am I still paying for this' level.Yep. It is the quintessential litmus test.
Things appear to be stagnant for a while. I see this year as make or break for the service and for Phil.I think that placing too much weight on any title, even a behemoth like CoD, is a mistake. 100% agreed. And I think that's the challenge - which is why I'm very pessimistic about this whole idea of a successful Game Pass.I think that placing too much weight on any title, even a behemoth like CoD, is a mistake. Bolded is the main reason why these streaming services will not be the success some think they'll be. Not for the foreseeable future. You need to reach the 'I guess I'll just keep it' threshold and then do enough to not fall under the 'why am I still paying for this' level.

You have what appears to be the best COD in ages, followed up by a steady stream of AAA & AA games to keep people. They need Stalker 2 to be good and Indy to be at least decent.
If the next 6 months doesn't work out for them it never will.
On PC it's all the free giveaway games as well. Between Epic and Amazon there are so many games given away that within a year you will have a library of maybe a hundred games and that's been somewhat selective. I quit gamepass for the first half of the year as I had more games than I could possibly play just given to me for free.Bolded is the main reason why these streaming services will not be the success some think they'll be. This already is a major issue for streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Prime.
For gaming the issue will be even bigger, as the content is much more 'demanding' irt time investment per title.
Then there is a massive list of f2p titles like Fortnite, Warzone, Overwatch, Apex Legends, The First Descendant, Warframe, etc that allow players to have continuous content for free.
Getting people to sub is difficult as is, retaining them will be even harder. And the list of f2p titles is ever growing.
Tbf, the amount of f2p games available and the increase in quality makes me wonder why I keep paying for PS+.On PC it's all the free giveaway games as well.
