Black Ops II NDAs lifted - YouTuber impressions

It's always really bothered me that even after the good moves made in Black Ops and the complete trash that were MW2 and MW3 people still considered IW the "A-Team" of the CoD series.

I have to say I'm really, really impressed at the changes here. Definitely will get the PC version at Christmas.

I think Black Ops 1 made people question that "A-team" status. Modern Warfare 3 dug the grave, and Black Ops 2 will put the nail in that myths coffin. Treyarchs interaction with their fans have always put them first in my eyes IMO.

I feel kinda weird to actually be excited about a COD game.

Ditto. Haven't been pumped for a Call of Duty game since original modern warfare. Bought black ops and enjoyed it, but I was never that excited. It's even weirder cause Halo is coming right before it and I'm still gonna probably buy BO2 it day 1. I mean, look at my avatar.

There is some major recoil on the weapons in BLOPS PC, I think they do add recoil to weapons but the aim-assist usually negates it on consoles.

Except you'll get people who aim like they have aim assist on PC ;p

This way, you wont get punished by terrible players, but will get punished by people who actually have skills.

I'm not following you. Why would aim assist allow you to be punished by people "who actually have skills?"

Same old shit.

The guns have no fucking recoil, it's pathetic to shoot them. Fuck Call of Duty online, it takes no skill. It's always just who sees each other first.

He was just trying to make the point that pc controls/players can be really good and that playing them will still be as if I was playing people with aim assist. But yea, that response wasn't really following my thought process.

Was anyone annoyed with the environment design of mp maps in MW3? The environments felt cramped, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was in the world of hobbits the entire time. Everything just felt so disproportionate. BLOPS II looks much better.

Yes. Every time I go back to Blops its like a breath of fresh air.

Yes. In my opinion MW3 has the lost maps ever and to me it's very important to have decent maps, that's why I'm very curious to play BO2.

Might even pay for the DLC Maps too (last time I did this was it MW2 launch, never got any DLC for COD after that).

I still hate the gun sounds, they looked like they rehashed the same ones from BLOPS, still sound like a bunch of staplers and a cow farting.

Other than that this looks a breath of fresh air compared to MW3 which had the worst map design of any COD game to date.

map design in IW games have been horrible post COD4. In MW2 they were mostly horrendous, seems they thought more = better. In MW3 it was the same falty principles in map design + extra bland and cramped = made mw2 maps look competent.

Treyarch have always had mostly good maps.

So as someone who is generally an outsider to this series: is it fair to say that Treyarch has ascended to "actually quite a good developer" status and that they are now considered the driving force behind the series? Or no?

Most definitely.

Why not just go for the mute-all. The only game where I personally ever see a "gg" anymore is Team Fortress 2 and even that can get out of hand sometimes.

I usually play with buddies, so I can't mute all, I have to go line by line... It's so bad that at least 20% of the time some idiot has to call me the racial N word because my handle has "cornbread" in it pretty sad indeed... at least I know the guys in my clan (well, most of them, always saying GG if the match was played straight up and not full of exploits, campers, spawn trapers and other classless crap. We do that in all games all the time..

Is it bad that I laughed when you included the guinea pig?

Nope, it was said, I think hampsters have been abused as well...

Wii Remote and Nunchuck combined with HD is any FPS nut's dream come true, in my opinion.

This bears repeating.

Wii U version at launch for me. I'm much too hyped to wait for Christmas. ;-P

literally 95% of that video is close range with an SMG. Obviously there wouldn't be a ton of visible recoil there. But watch the video when he tries to kill someone a bit further away at 39 seconds. He couldn't do shit.
Because he couldn't aim for shit.

factually, yes.

Because he couldn't aim for shit.
hard to aim with recoil + high rate of fire + range + using an smg. How it should be. Even if he decided to burst fire with the supposed less damage on SMGs from long range, it probably wouldn't work on a decent player.

BLOPS was better than MW2/3, so I'd say yes.

You're fooling yourself if you believe that for even a second. It's going to be just as easy as it has ever been. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but I really doubt that they're going to alienate 95% of their customer base by requiring something even remotely reminiscent of skill from their players.

They listen to the
XBOX community
gamers and have really gone out of their way to try and keep the BO games from being absolute campfests like MW2/MW3 have been. They did an excellant job with map creation alone to curp camping snipers on every part of the map..

Wait till they release the game though. Blops was shittier than MW2 in PS3.

I'm in this camp. Black Ops 1 was amazing and my game group prefers to play that over MW 2 or 3. We can't stand multiplayer in those games and keep going back to Black Ops. Treyarch is the #1 developer in the series in my opinion and I really hope that BO 2 has built upon everything that made BO 1 so awesome.

it ran not nearly as good as the xbox version but as someone that played it on ps3, it was still a far better game than mw2/mw3.

As someone who has been playing the PS3 versions (free online) I was not aware that it run like crap, I even play the 360 versions ocassionally with friends and don't see much difference, can someone give some details on what I'm missing??

Watch the video again. The player is one of those aim-by-means-of-strafing players. He just simply couldn't aim for shit. The recoil at range was super minimal, not even high enough to be considered a factor.

I've never played a CoD game, aside from World at War for a few hours one time.

But I'm interested in this for some reason.

Considering their games before Black Ops, they've improved a lot. Treyarch is the team that actually tries to switch things up but Infinity Ward disregards every improvement or good addition in their games. Infinity Ward has been making Call of Duty 4 expansion packs, basically.

Also, any more news regarding that PS3 (not mandatory) install physics?

I know it will prevent the Blu-ray drive for spinning like crazy/making all those reading noises but can it make the image quality better and/or let the maps/physics load faster?

Thanks in advance.

Despite its technical problems BLOPS was still way better than MW2.
Yeah, PS3 Blops had some weird issues especially at launch. Made it feel like even though Treyarch might not have been as technically competent as IW their passion and game design were leaps and bounds better.

Also Blops never froze the PS3 unlike MW2. Always a plus.

Framerate and lag issues mostly. PS3 version also can't have two PSN accounts signed in at the same time for splitscreen. It also was missing "launch multiplayer on startup" but that got fixed after the first patch. Can't remember anything else off the top of my head.

Other than Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six, not very many shooters have been able to handle recoil properly.

That's what lead us to shit like Halo and Call of Duty. No fucking recoil, guns feel like shit, no kick, no bang. Unload a million fucking bullets in 2 seconds.

Has anyone who designed Call of Duty shot a fucking rifle before?

Uh, Call of Duty has always followed the Quake concept of shooting mechanics since day 1. It has never tried to disguise itself as anything, but that.

at the 40 second mark he was not having much luck at range with the mp7
Someone already pointed out that he's an awful player. Still very little to no recoil, he just can't aim for shit. The second Youtube video is even worse, very difficult to watch...

I guess it's a pretty good representation of a majority of the playerbase, though.

I really hope next-gen COD games use a modern engine.

I abandoned the series after COD4 because I just can't stand how ugly it is.

Yes, played mostly BLOPS, MW3 hardly gets any time in the xbox any more. Hate it, some nice ideas like the support killstreaks but never really grabbed my attention and I struggle to pick out any memorable map. Brother got the elite version with all the maps and he hardly plays it too. So looking forward to BLOPS2. I think all the changed to infinity ward killed MW3, its just not the same team anymore

Yeah I was excited for MW3, but didn't play it for more than a few weeks because of the maps. I really liked some of the guns too, but I just couldn't get into it the maps were so bad.

But I am pretty excited about this one, especially since I've been off a year since 3 didn't pan out for me.

Yep. The flip happened with BLOPS. They offer feature rich games that has a little something for everyone.

Same thing killed BO and MW3 for me - netcode.

I thought I might just be going crazy, but ten minutes in CoD4 or MW2 disproved that.

Praying they don't fuck it up in BO2. I had other issues with both BO and MW3, but I would have played them a lot longer if I didn't get so damn pissed off at the way latency was handled.

Something is definitely up, because your setup should destroy MW3.

It was my mouse. I use a garbage wireless mouse which caused some jitter when I aimed which totally looked like low framerate stuttering.

Had to turn mouse smoothing on and now the game looks as smooth as it really should.

Stupid me -.-

I never played WAW, but I do remember a really vocal minority telling people to ignore the perceived step back and give the game a chance. To this day it seems like there's always someone in a CoD thread talking about how great that game actually was.

WaW is my favorite. The Wii version, no less, is the most fun I've had with the series.

and this is actually the first CoD I'm excited for since CoD4.
