Black & White 2 is "probably the best looking game ever"

It's the competition of a lifetime and your chance to influence the future of videogames forever! Now is the time to be getting excited about Black&White 2; the team are working like crazy to deliver to you this amazing game this autumn and it is looking better then it ever has. Now you can become immortal and join the ranks of all those villagers in Black&White 2. How? By entering in this contest and you could be the one lucky winner!

While we tell you that Black&White 2 is probably the best looking game ever (yes, ever - we like making bold claims) – it is also definitely going to offer you fresh and innovative gameplay! We (Lionhead Studios) are announcing this big contest; where one lucky guy (or gal) will get their face included in the final version of the game! Yes that's right, you could become immortal - by becoming one of the Greek characters!
Discuss.

Edit: they should have said "will be the best looking game ever once you win the contest and your face is present on all the little villager models that people can savagely maul with their beasties"

Well, if Nintendogs is a game, I have no problem with this calling itself one.
I'd like this to be good, but the first one was such a big pile of shite I'm not going anywhere near it until I hear several opinions.

PC or Xbox those guys never change. Hyping their own work like there's no tomorrow (or competition).

It certainly isn't. Someone posted some screens, and I was thinking that with next-gen consoles on the horizon, Lionhead better release it quick before it starts looking "old", relatively speaking.

Is this it?

I dunno, I think it is quite possibly one of the best looking games ever made. Not the best, but certainly up there.

I think it looks damn hot... best looking game ever? who knows.. a lot of great looking games do some things really well and other things poorly... PM and Lionhead have the biggest hype train I have ever seen in my life!

The creature model looks pretty nice but the rest of the world looks like PC gaming from 5 years ago.
Time to stir some shit up

Black & White (2001) Released four years ago. Mind you, it was really pretty when it came out.

I'm guess I am not the only one who can see a jump ;)

So Lionhead Studios like making bold claims? I hope they put some effort into giving it some great gameplay as well then. Or perhaps they're afraid of making any bold claims about that aspect of the game? :P

Partly on subject, I still remember that interview at Gamespot years ago, where a guy from Volition claimed that Summoner would be the best role-playing game EVER. I think it's wiser to just stay quiet about such things and let the game speak for itself.

Man oh man. Nobody hypes quite like Peter Molyneux and the boys at Lionhead. :D

Now, that's not to say that we don't think, "Well what can we take from the PC? What on the PC is unique to the PC that hasn't been seen on consoles before?" And that's what is very bold and incredibly scary about the game. I'm probably going to get beat up in the press for saying this one line--I am just opening up my trousers and asking you to kick me in the b**** for saying this--but the ambition of Project Ego is to make the greatest role-playing game of all time. And that is it. It defines everything. The reason why we're making that ambitious claim is because we're taking some of the things we've done on the PC and putting them on a console, and those things have never been seen before. And I'm talking about things like not setting a role-playing game in a scripted world where one hour, two minutes into the game, this happens. We're setting it in a simulated world that reacts to what your character is doing. Your character will influence and change the world in some way. Things like the fact that a typical role-playing game is always set over a weekend!

He goes on and on like this for hours...

Peter never learns does he :lol

I mean I liked Fable, but you KNOW there wouldn't have been such a backlash if he didn't make insane claims his game would never live up to.

Actually the guy should shut up but he is way too damn enthusiastic about what he does. He believes what he says when he talks about how it is going to be the best thing ever, then comes the development constraints, the backslash and the suffering.

I swore Peter Molyneux said he knew he hyped up his games too much and was acting like a kid in a candy store. That and that he wouldn't say stuff about a game like he did with Fable. Looks like he could be at it again.

Exactly. You could definitely tell Fable had potential to be something more, and people would've noticed things like the restricted movement and load times no matter what, but I think some of the missing features people complained about wouldn't have been missed in the first place if Peter hadn't hyped the game as some kind of ultimate free-roaming experience.

He did...it's in another Gamespot article...lemme see if I can find it...

What Backlash? the media sucks his c*** for the most part.. Fable got some bad press.. but B&W 1 didn't get any...

I think this is it...

I'm pretty sure he did an interview on Gamespot saying something similar but I can't find it.

I have come to realise that I should not talk about features too early so I am considering not talking about games as early as I do. This will mean that the Lionhead games will not be known about as early as they are, but I think this is the more industry standard.

Our job as the Lionhead family of studios is to be as ambitious as we possibly can. But although we jump up and down in glee about the fabulous concepts and features we're working on, I will not mention them to the outside world until we've implemented and tested them, and they are a reality.

Well...have you guys not seen the E3 video from this game?! First il looks great, but then you ´ll se the worst framedrops ever seen this generation. The framerate makes this game so ugly that I won´t even say this games is a good looking one.

Well I can make a game with photo realistic graphics and build up a real country to explore. But does it looks good when there is 15 fps? NO! I don´t get it...why developers make games and can´t even set a steady framerate? 30 fps at least!

Dammit, this game is so ugly from now on. Looks good in pictures....but in movement? Nah...pretty cheap graphics.

I remember a feature in PC Gamer long, long ago--a preview of Dungeon Keeper--where they (P.M.'s team) claimed that it was the best multiplayer game ever. Ha!

Please don't let this game suck like B & W. I watched some videos and if Lionhead can pull this off it could be awesome.

Some of you guys really need to chill out! :lol

Anyway - yes Black&White 2 is most probably the best looking game! And it's not the only to be released game in the genre making such a claim...

And you can't tell me this doesn't excite you?

And on the topic of gameplay: if some peopel would actually care to read something on the internet they'd find a lot of details on the actual gameplay of the game.

I'm playing it every day, and as much as I was sceptic (especially after some of the issues I had with Black&White 1) I am fully convinced now that Black&White 2 is going to deliver on all fronts.

I could swear I just posted AOEIII screens.
And I keep getting logged out...

I don't like the style of B&WII and it doesn't look as technically great as stuff that is bound to be released before it.

This is in-game. I didn't say it was ugly though.

This IS in-game but not the way some people think it is. It's realtime and 3D but you can't move camera around (I think). Similiar to city screens from Heroes of Might and Magic series.

AOE III screens again... in a Black and White thread... great...

just like Super Castlevania IV was the 'best looking game ever'...
just like Donkey Kong Country was the 'best looking game ever'...
just like Final Fantasy VII was the 'best looking game ever'...
just like Metal Gear Solid 2 was the 'best looking game ever'...
just like Resident Evil 4 was the....

rinse/repeat

*yawn*

Looks great, but these shitheels should stop using "ever". 'Best looking game to date' (although arguable) is still a much better phrase.

Nope. In Age you can move the camera around, you don't have a host "city" like in Might and Magic.

Do you write for X-play?

Thanks!
Now it really puts B&W2 to shame, I mean just look at Age 3...

Pfff, B&W2 has an ANT simulator, thats right, if you zoom in far enough you see ANTS going about their daily business, lets see AOE match that scale.

You're kidding right?

I mean, I know about the ants and all - but it doesn't have an ant simulator. I highly doubt that. Ants are a lot more complicated than most people think. An entire game has been devoted to ant simulation. There is no way that B&W2 has an ant simulator. All it has is the ability to "see" ants if you zoom in far enough. That's it.
