Blimblim's PGR3 impressions (hands-on)

I know, and Gek likes a wide range of racing games. Not just DICE ones. And Gek never makes crazed claims about frame rates of games that aren't finished.

Is there even a cockpit view in PGR2 ? RSC2 has the best cockpit view I`ve seen so far actually, together with World Racing and Toca 2.
Well, no there isn't any cockpit visible of course, but I play with the "inside car" camera.
The cockpit view in PGR3 seemed (I've seen it for like 5 seconds) to be non obtrusive, something like 10% of the bottom of the image was lost for the beginning of the cockpit. I think if you want to watch your dashboard you'd have to lower the "freelook" camera.
Of course this was just a glimpse of a very in progress version of the game so I don't pretend it will be like this in the final build.

I doubt this will be 60 fps. Maybe 40-50 fps.

40-50? somehow, i think you'll be wrong ;)

i hope you'll be able to position the camera exactly where you want it, like in pgr1

Wow. You werent around before Forza came out I presume ? He trolled the 30fps more than anyone.

BTW, what about your claim that PGR3 will have a lovely framerate? 30 or 60fps?
Now, what is it ?

sounds good. I like the idea of a cockpit view, but don't waste too much space on the actual cockpit. One thing they need though is adjustable seats. I generally sit fairly high up when driving normally so I can see the front of my bonnet. In a cockpit view I'd also want to see the front corners of the car

Heck, let me adjust the wing mirrors too :)

I hope they keep the freelook. Forza almost had that, but snapped at certain points. I'd like to be able to glance around at other cars' positions.

didn't you think the blur effect was a bit too much in this build? I've also had the opportunity to attend one of these presentations, and it kinda annoyed me that the blur effect kicked in way too soon, even when he just started accelerating. It was impossible this way to see how nice the buildings actually look (at least, i suppose they look nice, given the screens of them released in the past). When I asked about it he told me the blur effect was still not finalised, but I hope they don't overdo it ...

Shit, motion blur ? Like in the Xbox Moto GP games? Argh.

Nick mentionned that the motion blur was overdone in this build and that they had already turned it down quite a lot. I think it was a very interesting demonstration of how things would look at very high speed, and of course if it was like it was today for every speeds, then it would get annoying really really fast.

as someone else who saw a pgr3 presentation, do you have any more tidbits to add? i'm dying for any info i can glean from these types of reports...

Did you stop reading my impressions after the FPS comment?

are you familiar with this guys posting history? leave him be ;)

Gregory said:
Basically yes. The framerate is all I care about with this game. 60fps or bust.
Then basically, you suck. Honestly. Truthfully. How can you stop reading something just because a debug build, running on non finalised hardware, runs slowly?
Yep, you most definitely suck.

He was right. Forza is 30fps.

The only number that exists is Bizarre's desire to get it running at 60fps. So just stick with that.

And Blim is right. I'm sure you're a great guy, but in this thread, you are King of Suck.

Bizarre responded to your impressions in the coments to their update:

What do I say to that? Well, looking around the office right now there are plenty of dev kits running WAY above 15fps. :-) The article you mention does state that this was on an old dev kit, running an old build.

Well, I can't add much more to Blim's impressions, it was after all not that long the presentation itself :) One small detail perhaps: as blim already said, the interior is extremely detailed (that one shot was awesome!), and when you are driving at night, you will see the interior change, some small interior lights for example that are switched on etc. Everything that is in the car in real life, is in the game version as well, fully functioning. Sounds cool I think.

Also the user friendly design of it all, Gotham TV and such. Everything is handed on a silver plate to the gamer. The game tells you about special events you might wanne tune in on, or even be a part of yourself. So you don't have to look for that information yourself. And that applies for everything else too ... Really can't wait to participate in the Belgian PGR 3 online tournament :D

That bastard Nick did not mention that to us. I hate him now ;). Did he mention something about the weather system? We still don't know anything about it (if it exists) and I completely forgot to ask...

That is a really REALLY important point Bizarre hasn't touched upon. We still haven't seen different weather pictures, or even night time pictures.

Are you supposed to report the truth or whatever MS and co tell you to post?
I get Emails like this when I say something I'm not supposed to say, or say something that's simply inacurate. Never once have I been asked to lie about something, I would never have complied anyway.

did forget to ask about the weather system myself too, as a big fan of the series I was way to excited in the beginning to start thinking of all the questions I wanted to ask :)

Btw, this isn't something they said explicitely or anything, but I don't think we have to expect the game at launchdate itself. One of my Belgian colleges asked about the releasedate, but they were rather evasive about it en were mentionning the 'launch window' a lot, and even mentionned a possible different releasedate between EU and US (not months of course but still)

So ? I also like Akira Kurosawa`s movies. Doesn`t mean jack.

Yes it does. It means you're confused.
These guys say so.

You haven`t seen Bloodrayne so you`re not qualified to bash it. Kinda like I supposedly shouldn`t bash the framerate of an unfinished PGR3. Maybe you`re confused too.

LOL @ "old black betakit"
The "alpha kit" excuse, and now this? Wtf are they doing, they don't even know how to impress the media with the latest version of devkit? If it's not ready by now 2 months before the launch, how can they mass-produce those chips for damn 360 consoles?

quin said:
did you miss the part where Blim says its an old build running on the oldest beta kit?

Why show it then?

Bizzares sexy screens on their site are fine and dandy, just as long as there backed up with at least a solid 30 FPS.

A solid 30 FPS would be fine with me. This is 1st gen. stuff.

You can't win, because you just inadvertently compared Seven Samurai to Bloodrayne. Now, if you can find another person on this forum who thinks you are right, bring him back here and we'll discuss.

Well, can`t do that until Bloodrayne is released. I`ll get back to you.

Excellent point. There's a good chance Bloodrayne could be as good as Seven Samurai. I will reserve judgement.

good point. you would all be bitching about how they have nothing to show and throw out worst case scenerios instead....

What I dont get is why they even bothered showing off a 10-15fps build on old hardware. How are you even able to drive at that rate?

Setting the bar low.

Let me state first that this was a rather old build, running on the oldest version of the black beta kits.

why would they do that?? im sure they have a newer version running on the newest dev kits.

EDIT

doh. im a bit slow. ^^^^

Nope. Not good enough. I expected a lot of 60 fps out of the gate last gen, and I expect MORE this time.

We've yet to see ONE shot of Ridge Racer 6, but I would say that there is a 99.9% chance that it will run at a rock solid 60 fps. There is no excuse.

However, like I said, I really think they will hit 60 fps for PGR3. I'm sure they are well aware of how people felt about the 30 fps of PGR2.

Gregory said:
So what was with that trailer running at 60fps ?

The video was encoded to 60fps but the actual action was NOT 60fps, it was most likely 30fps or less but no way 60fps as you could tell by the motion. I mentioned this in the other thread.

Blimblim said:
Nope, that's the first time it's been mentioned.

Go back and ask whether the original REAL-TIME driving feature from MSR will return in the game. That was awesome in MSR.

I wonder how Nick is doing now, its been a very long time since I've last spoken to him.
