Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

The only weird thing is the name of this game. Seriously why is it called "Overwatch"?

You haven't even played it...
No it is not, Monday Night Combat was TF2 with MOBA elements.

Co-op
Blitz mode allow players to defend their Money Ball against armies of robots by themselves or four player co-op over Steam. During various Blitz challenges, players can spend money earned by destroying bots to build defensive turrets around the Moneyball, upgrade one of six unique character classes, or set off robot crushing environment hazards. The Challenges vary from a ten round Exhibition Blitz to endless robot waves of ever increasing difficulty in Super Sudden Death Blitz. Money earned from each Challenge goes into a persistent Lifetime Earnings that allows players to unlock over 370 ProTags, create custom classes, and get ranked on Leaderboards.

Cause bruhuhuhu valve uses Overwatch throughout HL and internally as part of their VAC technologies and Blizzard is salty about losing the Dota trademark.

Then they go and use it to make a TF2/Quake clone. Double rearing of the head. Blizzard has those icy shoulders.

Wow this looks amazing don't mind it's F2P as long not P2W... Can't wait for the beta.

The launch trailer reminded me of the previously similarly titled EA game - Overstrike

Hopefully this game doesnt get focus tested to shit like Overstrike Fuse did.

Similar thoughts. For a sec thought it was a reboot of that :p

This looks awesome. Like a TF2 I could really sink my teeth into. Hoping for an early beta invite.

I don't mind F2P. God knows (and my wife doesn't) what I've spent on LoL over the years. I'm perfectly ok with paying for my games. F2P is great if it has compelling content that I want to use in a game I enjoy playing.

R.I.P. Battleborn 2015-2014...

Game looks cool, and brings back suppressed memories of Overstrike (aka what Fuse could have been)

Looks fun, definitely has a MOBA vibe to it as well. We'll see how the shooting feels when people get their hands on the beta.

I like what I'm seeing(the artstyle mainly), but I'll need to see more of the in-game action to justify time spent on it. If it's not much different than TF2(and it doesn't look super different atm), then I don't see myself jumping ship.

Also, I'm 100% sure it will be F2P, with microtransactions for characters/looks(a la DoTA/LoL/TF2).

This is not the Blizzard I used to adore, but I guess I knew that already. I just feel so out of touch with what they are now. I think I'll go home and boot up D2.

Guys. This is a new Blizzard IP, guys. 17 years guys.

Shit looks awesome. It's like a faster TF2, without the stupid loot(assumption).

I'm in. Day 1. Can't wait.

That's great, glad for you. Not my case as you can see.

Do you really see many MMOs nowadays to ask for less?

Maybe I was projecting my dislike for MMO's in general but, it is a dying genre and after all these years not a single one has rivaled what WoW achieved, not with content nor in numbers. Building something of the likes with todays costs of games development would be a risky bet in such an unstable market.

Maybe they just decided take a safer route, in a much more stable and easier market to profit from.

I think from a gameplay perspective there is no reason why this game can't be on console. The question becomes if they do a LOL style monetization how that will work on closed systems.
I could imagine just putting it on console for a set price with a sizeable chunk of characters and then microtransactions of some kind for skins and other characters.

Diablo was really an excellent choice for a first console game as it transfers nicely. With this, I'd imagine the remain PC focused for a year or so and then attempt to move it across assuming the above are workable issues
I have my fingers crossed, in the immediate trailers it looks totally functional on console as Evolve is. But either way, I'm signed up for the PC beta and I'll be more than happy to play it there for a bit.

Finally something that isn't fucken Warcraft/Diablo/Starcraft. It too em what? 17 years since Lost Vikings 2?

I am ignoring HoTS and Hearthstone as they are related to those 3 franchises i mentioned.

Clearly the Overwatch logo is ripping off the NeoGAF one as well can't Blizzard do anything on their own!?

Not serious

Not what I expected out of Blizzard, but it looks fun. Hopefully there will be more interesting game modes than "capture thing" though, I wish more games had varied objectives like ET, Brink etc, where you have to do a bunch of different thing on each map.

Fair enough. I love MMOs, it´s a little heartbreaking for me seeing little future for the genre.

Anyway, I think it's time to let people enjoying this have their time, I'll leave the thread. Sorry if anyone felt annoyed at my posts.
