Blizzcon 2008

what holds back world pvp is that 1) the events are pretty meaningless at level 70 2) the rewards are worthless even if you do them at the level the rewards require, unless you do them constantly, and 3) flying mounts/epic flying mounts especially break it so it's annoying and boring and you either instagib someone or they run away and become untouchable. the only decent world pvp event in outland is on a really long timer. Wintergrasp should make world pvp better, although they need to make it a no-fly zone to avoid #3 rearing its ugly head.

Really? Whats holding back World PVP then? I heard it was pretty much dead

There's no reason to do it. You don't really get much honor. You can't get xp. You can't really gain control of zones or "contested keeps" etc. It's just better for people to do arenas/BGs.

That a shame. Considering it is the WORLD of warcraft. Does Warhammer have World PvP?

Yes. Tons. With keeps, fortress, battle objectives to take over. An every changing war that is effected by players of all tiers, which all leads to capturing the opposing enemies capitol city. The cities themselves are the best cities I have ever seen in any MMO. Huge, with tons of content, the ability to level up and unlock new content and areas etc..

Obviously, WoW couldn't add all that in unless it was a gigantic expansion, or a new mmo. However I would settle just for tons of world PVP, that MEANS something and gives good rewards.

Will never happen, enjoy the only RNG eSport in existence. :(

There any good videos showing this? I'm looking to get into an MMO, and I wanted to do Warcraft since I like the world and the races better. But I also like the idea of big wars with tons of players battling it out. I just wish Warhammer wasnt so vanilla fantasy with its races.

wow, using the blink ability of the dark dragoon to move damaged units to the back. That was really impressive.

The D3 class panel was great and they showed off classes and gameplay. The gameplay one was only 20 minutes and didn't cover anything that really wasn't already covered in the class panel. I don't even remember any real gameplay shown in the gameplay panel. It was very dissapointing after following the long and in depth Starcraft 2 panel. Skip the D3 gameplay if there is another showing, but the class panel is a good watch.

Watch? There is video of the class panel? Or was this just something on the stream I missed?

Yea that was the shirt Ray Gresko was wearing today...

It was hilarious.

So what I've learned at Blizzcon

1) Press Badges make the experience so much better in terms of trying the games due to private booths in the press room and the ability to skip lines to all the gameplay areas. The lines were god awful long for so many of the games

2) SC2 feels like Starcraft.. but prettier and better. Diablo 3 was bad ass and had so many unique monster deaths with different looks etc. It was impressive

3) Jay Mohr is a great host for the costume contest etc.. he was very enjoyable. The girl who won the costume contest also won last year at Blizzcon.. so she has quite the dedication. Her remote control turtle mount was powered via a powered wheelchair supposedly and she spent $3000 on her costume

4) Jefferey Kaplan and Chris Sigaty are some of the nicest people in the world

5) I felt bad for the people who sat in line for 6 hours on day 1 at the BlizzStore lines... because on Day 2 I went through the line in 15 minutes and had the same selection as they did (Minus the Steins which sold out in 4 hours.. so that means I had the same selection as 3/4 of the first days line waiters)

6) Jinx line stayed full the whole time and apparently stuffed murlocs are extremely popular..

7) I still think the RSA BlizzKey thing is stupid and I even got one for free in my goodbag..

8) I found it odd when a little kid came up to me during an interview and wanted me to interview him on camera because "He was a child actor, and was good at this stuff." His dad was standing next to him and apparently was his "agent"

9) GameSpot crew was extremely nice.. The G4 crew thought they were "the shit" it seemed.. with their former Real World contestant host...

That's the authenticator, isn't it?

Can I buy yours off you, or is it going straight to eBay? :D

It was smart of blizzard to steal those features from Warhammer.
Wat? Lol

You can already level from BGs.
HK-47 said:
They need to bring back World PVP. I heard BGs and dishonorable kills pretty much destroyed it
No, no thanks.

Keep it to BGs and PVP zone specific areas. World PVP and PVP servers are retarded.

leveling from Bg's in Wow, is a phrase that should be followed be a "Lol". But I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about Que'ing via map, etc..

Being someone who was debating going to Blizzcon........it seems like it was a bit of a lame show this year. The biggest announcement is one that pissed off many ;[, but still Blizzard rules nonetheless.

Long fuggin weekend. Drove almost 400 miles combined. Last minute plans aren't very time or money friendly. :lol

I met Ryan Scott and Karen Chu. Both really cool. I saw David Ellis, Tina Sanchez, and Damien (Lynn, Lind? I don't know :[), too. But that was at the opening ceremony, so I didn't want to bug them.

I have about 80 keychains from the giftbag. And an inflatable Frostmourne! Score.

Red lady.

Also good to know that Diablo III is as amazing as I thought it would be.

EDIT: Biggest announcement pissed off many? What was the biggest announcement?

Probably the SC2 trilogy.

Stupid thing to get pissed off about, but lots of people are.

There were tons of special podcasts for TGS, but nothing for Blizzcon?

I don't think that TGS was on pay-per-view. lol. And even less came out of blizzcon than TGS. Except for that pally bubble-hearth beach ball like thing.

?

I was most interested in the campaign, not the MP, this decision is a hard one to swallow for those who will probably have to wait years extra for what they wanted.

Me too, buddy. Me too. I'm terrible at multiplayer RTS.

Oh that split. Well to be honest...im not that great at MP RTS either.

Honestly I just got into Starcraft recently, but everything just seems to move so crazy fast with its MP.

I wouldn't be so indescribably pissed with Blizzard if they committed to a reasonable time table for releasing the other campaigns. Four month to six months for each installment would be acceptable, because that is what episodic gaming is. But a year or more lag time (which is what is being bandied about) is a hard pill to swallow.

Unlike Valve and the Half-Life expansions, Blizzard is not changing the very game engine to allow for a revolutionary new feature in each campaign (EP 1 introduced an AI partner, EP 2 introduced mass physics and large scale, EP 3 ?). I mean don't tell me these RPG or diplomacy elements haven't been somewhat nailed down.

I say fuck the Koreans and their whining, work on the god damn campaign.

Dude, I completely understand where you're coming from. I just... I dunno. I have faith in Blizzard in this regard. If they say it's so they can release a better campaign, I'm all for it. And if they want to split it up so that I can have it earlier, with a bit of a break in between campaigns, I'm all for it.

Now, if you want to start talking about Diablo 3 mods... that actually pisses me off.

Ah well. What's done is done.

Yeah. I'd love to get into it, it's just... so far above and beyond me that I have no chance, heh.

How enlightened.

Just don't buy it. Wait for all 3 'mini-campaigns' to be released then wait for the battle chest to hit the bargain bin.

I might do that, it would be difficult because nothing even approaches SC2 in the "I absolutely want to own this" department. But really, am I not entitled to express my displeasure?

I want an answer to one of PC gaming's biggest cliffhangers that has existed for a decade. I was seven when I played SC, I'm now in University. You know I'm dissapointed that this happened to "that" game, the one I have pined for, for ten years and then the hope that one day it will come out and I can buy it, is cruelly snatched away and I am forced to buy it in thirds each spread some indeterminably long time apart.

And no, I don't need worldsmallestviolin.jpg I'll move on, but damn it I'm dissapointed.
