Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

Make it so there's less input lag hopefully.

With the very limited magic there was no reason to hide it,
executioner's gloves are unbelievably useless, like seriously, there's no point, they do jack shit for damage against both players and enemies yet I have 25 arcane.
Upgrading weapons should've at least changed their appearance as well as that would've helped top not make it feel repetitive for subsequent playthroughs.

Executioner Glove is actually the best spell in the game. lol

I played a build as arcane, got all the spells except one I think(when I found out it was trash).
The Glove is good against certain enemies, I know werewolves in particular take big damage from it, you can spam it and it does a slight stagger each time as well. But, it eats up those bullets pretty fast. And you could have just as easily stabbed whatever you were fighting in the face. It's a decent 'oh shit' button, but you can't really build yourself around it. Not really worth a whole build for one spell that's slightly useful, sometimes.

Dunno, makes it feel empty. I mean the game is souls through and through, with faster combat and better graphics. I don't get that their goal would be to make a better action game with less content than souls but not as good as pure action games like the DMC series. It has all the defining traits of a souls game but lacks a lot of depth when it comes to loot, build diversity, play style, etc... There's no real reason to do NG+ other than the challenge. Weapons just go to +10, the elemental choices are almost non-existent or require hours of grinding through chalices just to get a single weapon with the right slots, enemy resistances don't even make sense as it encourages the type of variety you cannot get through normal play or only see at endgame. If they don't plan on doing expansions with tons of loot, more interesting armor, expanded combat, actual useful magic, etc... I'm not interested in Bloodborne as a series. I really do not like this direction toward a stripped down experience.

Yeah, I'm with you. I really had a good time with the game, but I doubt I'll go back to it except to maybe do NG+ some time after the loading time patch hits.

I wonder why they even bothered with the magic/hunter's tools in this game. They all seem so incredibly useless except for the weapon buff and (extremely short duration) dodge speed buff.

I also really hate what they did with armor where they all seem to operate within the same stat cap and are only differentiated by by their resistance stats, which really don't matter all that much anyway in NG.

I really enjoyed the game. It's easily the best I've played this year (so far), but I'm with you in that it feels empty. I put in only about 30 hours on my first playthrough and I already feel like I've seen most of everything the game has to offer. This was never the case with the Souls games.

Started my arcane build yesterday. I heard A German Spy call it a 'garbage stat' in his latest video, is it really that bad? The spells are no good? Ludvig's gets A scaling so I hoping that will give good dps at least

Ludvig's also gets B scaling in both Strength and Dexterity. Seems like 15 might be the sweet spot for Arcane so you can get access to two of the buffs that might be useful.

It is not complete garbage, except in early game. Haven't tried a build based around it, but I imagine it to be difficult. For sure it is not magic or pyromancy from games before.

I'm not so sure about that. Molotovs also scale with arcane, and those are clearly fire. edit: so does the torch.

http://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/30intn/psa_arcane_build_viable_at_lower_levels_some/

I really noticed no difference during my arcane run. Torch didn't seem good, molotovs didn't seem any stronger than normal either. I'm calling this placebo until I see a video showing the difference. Also the moveset of the torch sucks. I don't see why they'd scale those weapons with arcane and keep the attribute bonus hidden, that seems stupid.

damn, so close to beating a boss on my first attempt

that damn enemy hit me with his long range Dhalsim snake attack at the end, killed 2 of those ghosts , next time im going for the fire guy first, hes annoying.

Difficult fight made a lot easier if you remember to move constantly. Seems like trivial advice but it helps

So Layer 3 lower Pthumeru dungeon is royally kicking my arse. I'm lvl 77 yet feel so overwhelmed. People weren't kidding that the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly. When the dungeon opens up in the garden type area there were so many bloody foes, totally went nope and ran past it all without getting noticed, stealth ftw

Managed to beat ML on first try on my new character at level 47. He is really easy when you know what to do and especially if you have someone summoned since he doesn't spend all time on you. Parry/backstab all day everyday.

Got Chikage to +6 immediately after that and I don't know if I like it or not. Damage seems nice but exchanging health for charge attack and constant hp drain when transformed sucks.

I want to go to Yahar'gul, fight One Reborn and get the key to the Upper Cathedral area. I can't get there through Hunters Dream. It tells me it is not available at this time. Is there another way to get there? I don't want to miss out on this optional area.

It could be because it's a fresh start and the director simply wants more people to actually finish the game. Think about, it was more straight forward, and there is definitely some hard bosses, but you really have to go out of your way to find them, and especially the third ending, and hardest bosses in CD. I think the game is streamlined to reach a wider audience.

It maybe unfortunate for us who are pretty good at video games and played the Souls series before, but I would be very surprised if a ton of DLC doesn't make its way to Blood Borne. Chalice Dungeon is basically the perfect outlet to keep the game relevant for 2 years. I would have liked for CD to be some hidden area in the actual game though. If it's underneath Yharnam, then it should have had a NPC or mini boss in front of it's entrance and accessible after a certain point in the game. It being in the Hunter's Dreams doesn't add to the immersion. Still, it can easily addressed most of the complaints fans have with BloodBorne. Hopefully sooner than later we get our first DLC.

are you trying to teleport there from the hypogean Gaol lamp? That one goes inactive permanently I think.

To all the people disappointed with the guide: was there something the community didn't figure out with DS2 until the guide was consulted? It's hard to hide secrets from a million players.

There are plenty of possible NPC interactions and small hidden areas I didn't find on my blind playthrough.

Constant HP drain isn't really a bother since it drains percentage base and if you pump in VIT. Just remember to swiped the blood off everytime you're not using, Chikage wipes the floor with almost every bosses with high bloodtinge.

Yep, that's what I was trying to do. Is there another way to get there or did I already miss out on that part of the story? :(

there's two. the easiest way

after you defeat ROM, there will be a woman sitting in the middle of the lake where the boss was. Approach her, the moon will descend, and you'll be teleported there.

alternatively AFTER you do the event in the spoilered section above, you could simply head there by teleporting in to the cathedral ward, approaching the grand cathedral where VA was, but head right. this path will lead you down to the unseen village, as a previously locked door will now be open.

No you can still get there. I assume you have not lit any lamps in yhargul, so the other way is to head from chapel ward to where you fought Amelia and turn right before you you reach the Amelia's door, keep going and you should find the area easily.

Got it. Thanks to you both!

Arcane is perfectly fine. I have 45 arcane and the flamesprayer, rosmarinus, molotovs, spells and whatnot does a ton of dmg. My Tonitrus gets an atk rating of 709 with the buff and thats with a shitty +12% bolt dmg gem

Well I just tried it for ten minutes. Helped someone against SoY and managed to destroy two of them while the host was struggling with one. Going to bump more bloodtinge and play more with it.

Is the rifle spear a legitimate weapon for a new playthrough? The attack animations seem too slow and too "thrusty" to deal with the groups of enemies you usually face. Only outstanding attack is the R2.

How many point do you have in arcane?

50, that's when leveling it went to shit where it's 1 per level, so I focused back on STR and VIT I believe. Didn't do any NG+ as I found it pointless.
I did pump Arcane early though. Haven't played that character in a while.

I made a random build for my first dude to NG+, mostly STR and enough Arcane so I could use Empty Phantasm Shell. Which was a bad idea. Since most enemies are not weak to Arcane.

Second character to NG+ was my Arcane build, Arcane to 50 asap, enough STR/Skill to use Tonitrus, Vit/End leftovers. Got all spells except 1, found Executioner's Glove to be the best. Hunter's bone does have its uses but eats bullets like crazy so I don't see it as viable except maybe in PVP duels?

Third was a skill character I got to NG+ and the one I had the most fun with and made the most progress in Chalice dungeons with, still go back to her to hack away at those. Burial Blade is sweet, Rifle spear was my main weapon the whole game though. The R2 charge attack on that is OP as fuck.

Last character I just made yesterday, going for a Bloodtinge build, focusing on STR early so I can use the Cannon with some points in Bloodtinge, the Repeater is decent but I was expecting 2 consecutive shots, not 2 at once. Might use the wheel since I never tried it yet.

On my skill character I dumped a few points in Blootinge to try the Chikage, but its trick mode does damge over time to you, and unless you gem with continuous HP you're putting yourself at high risk, plus you're wasting slots that could be increasing raw damage by a shit ton. I did merc Rom with it though. lol

And I do want to let people know that sometimes it might seem like I'm shitting on the game, but I did/do really enjoy it for what it is, the lack of content for experienced players just hurts so bad. And also if I am flat out wrong about my opinions on Arcane I really want to be disproven, I want to like the game more lol, it's just that my personal experience showed me that it wasn't worth the effort.

Ok, GAF. Am I ready to take on the Defiled Chalice? I've already beaten K
eeper of the Old Lords
on the first layer, but I hear that that's only the beginning.

I have no idea why I can't just beat Ebritas. I'm getting pretty good at hugging his side, but I always manage to screw up right at the end. I'm on the 15th try at this point it feels like.

The Chalice Dungeons are pretty friggin repetitive. I would rather they were just not there. A PVP arena would've been better for the game's long terms life. Who knows what the updates will bring but once I get the drops for the last couple trophies I need I'm out and will just start a new game focusing on builds for the PVP if it ever gets developed.

Game is till amazing but the quality difference between the main quest and the Chalice Dungeons is immense.

The 2H R2 charge is amazing, you can hit enemies from a mile away and do massive damage, also some enemies will start to turn around before it hits so you have to be ready to followup. It should always stunlock them for a sec though. It's normal 2H combos fucking blow though, the 1H stabs are really good and fast, but the tracking against fast enemies like hunters leaves a lot to be desired. So just be aware of that. But really the 2H R2 charge is soooooo worth it. The range is gigantic. Also with the new find that the shotgun part of it is insane if you level bloodtinge, that seems good as well.

Just beat C
elestial Emissary
on my first try. Kind of a joke boss. I'm level 65 now. Should I give E
brietas
a shot or is it just going to be really frustrating?

I used it for a while on my new character. It is really good against bosses and single enemies but against mobs it isn't super great. Having threaded cane on the side is great since the transformed version is great for crowd control.

The chalice dungeons just need loot, badly, there's some but it's few and far between, with most of the good stuff in Root dungeons only. I think the repetitive nature of it wouldn't sting so much if we were getting real rewards.

Those levels should be more than enough for the Defiled Chalice and yes Keeper is just the beginning. Next two are the real pain of that chalice and will probably break your spirit more than once.

Question: If you are right in front of the boss area of C
ainhurst
C
astle
is there any way to get back to the lantern or do I just have to go into the boss area and pray for the best?

No way back at this point. I knew the boss was ahead so I used the Bold Hunters Mask, went back to Hunters Dream and used my Echoes. Then I went back to Cainhurst Castle, ran past everyone after getting out the elevator and made my way back to the boss entrance and beckoned for help.

Time to join the elite.

My first foray into the Souls universe. I'm pretty happy right now.

Overall impressions. Fantastic game. One of the most enjoyable and punishing game experiences i've had in a very long time. It's a hard game but (mostly) fair. I loved the variety of environments, the art direction and score were incredible and the combat and sense of exploration was very satisfying. Some of the boss battles were among the best encounters I've come across in a game. Definitely one of those rare titles that lives up to the hype surrounding it and probably the first must have exclusive on PS4.

Lmfao that was my exact reaction. If there were some awesome weapons and outfits, it would be cooler.
