That thing was easy. The tricky part for me was not turning on my lamp and
falling off the back end.

I ignored bone marrow ash pretty much the whole game. What a mistake, holy shit is it powerful. Really helping me out with the late game bosses.

Damn, just encountered my first big bug. I killed the
gattling gun hunter
by accidentally throwing him over the edge. All good and well but now his drop is floating 'bout 10 meters in the air.

Is there any way I can get his drop now or do I have to wait till NG+?

Save, exit, then go back it should be reachable

I need a break from this game, after hours of playing it I legitimately didn't feel good and started wondering why the hell I keep playing it.

(Optional boss spoiler) A
mygdala
= first boss I'm having trouble with in NG+, but that's mostly because the entire fight is a complete mess when it comes to gameplay.

So I have 24,000 blood echoes and Ludwigs Holy blade is 20k. Should I buy it? What's the verdict?
Buy it! I've been using nothing else since I got it. GS mode tears through anything. I was able to destroy those giants at the chapel with it in a few hits once it's a bit upgraded and it does great damage on bosses.

Just beat the first boss! I thought I didn't have a chance, but I think I got him on my third try. Things got tense and in the final stages both of us had just a sliver of health left - I gambled on the reclaim system and that worked out.

The camera was certainly the hardest part: nice to stare at a wall while you are being crushed. I think I levelled 3 or 4 times and had my weapon at +1. I am by no means a skilled player (but I did beat all previous Souls games).

Tips for fellow noobs:

You only need to fight the mob once at the start. In fact, you can simply sprint passed it (you might get sniped in the back though). Stick with it, you can rush the last parts to open shortcuts if things get hectic. There is no need to fight you way through an entire level over and over again to reach the boss.

I need to relax a bit before I can continue, but I'm loving it so far.

How soon do I get enough Insight to summon/offer help? I am not ashamed to call in backup and enjoy helping others out.

I heard this also and would like to know...if so I will run around with 2 insights for the occasional summon lol...last thing I want is this game to be harder lol...

supposedly the first change happens when you have 15 at once. HAving 2 occasionally wont matter

I think I got a bell to summon others upon
returning to the lodge after killing the cleric beast
. The bell to offer help is
purchaseable in the lodge but you need 10 insight to see the merchant

I had 26 insight last night and noticed some of the enemies had glowing weapons that would wreck my shit if they hit me. Thing is I spent the insight and then beat the boss and the glowing from their weapons disappeared - so I'm not sure if beating the boss was responsible for the change or the lowered insight.

For the record it was the two guys outside of Vicar Amelia. Their crosses glowed red and hit me with an instant frenzy that wrecked my health.

Ludwig's Rifle any good?

Well... it's a shotgun. I've seen a lot of people using it in PVP for parrying and for trying to stop healing(Yeah, you can't stop people from healing in pvp if they're half competent sadly), though I can't say it's good because I haven't lost yet.

I actually bought and upgraded the thing because its description painted it as a long range rifle.

I noticed almost all the house npcs don't talk anymore, they just yell like madmen. Looked it up and it seems to be connected to having a
tonsil stone
in my inventory. Is that the case? Can I reverse the effect?

btw anyone had the bug where the Frontier Headstone has the little messengers in front of it but if you try to use it the game kicks you back to the XMB?

Had that happen once so far. Its weird since do not recall having been to any "Frontier" zone yet?

Its currently active again and do not want to touch the thing as might corrupt my data with crashing out.

How do you get to him? I managed to get to the tower at all!

He is shooting from atop the tower and right below the tower is a town square or something, if you go down the wooden walkways at the far end of it you get to a ladder to climb up the tower with the gatling gun on it.

So what level was everyone when they fought
Vicar Amelia?
I'm Level 29 and I feel pretty under-leveled during the fight.

I was 24 or so and found it doable

The small forest on the left side of the grand cathedral is considered to be in the frontier zone, same goes for the forest you get to from the square with the 2 giants wielding axes.

got attacked by an unknown monster in the plaza. Got taken somewhere truly evil. There is no escape from this place. The beast there are just... ruthless

Lvl 27, I think. Its basically Cleric Beast 2.0. Used the same strat.

You can escape
go up all the stairs you see till you see a lamp. You'll have to avoid two sack guys but they're slow.

Father G easy tactic
first run up to the top of the stars so you have more room to dodge. parry has attacks and counter. Most people have no problem with the first part.

beast mode .. stay on the stairs. use the music box to stagger for a bit hit. then is just dodging left and right while counter attacking to keep you health up.

literal took 3 mins.

So, played around with all the weapons except the Beast Claw.

I think I'm going to stick with the Chikage (Katana) as my main and the and Hunter Axe as my second. I used the Katana all the way until the end once I got it and the Threaded Cane as my main weapon up until that point.

I just am not a big fan of the speed and move sets of the others. And man I REALLY wanted to like the Scythe, but the move set on it just does not jell well with me. And the Arcane scaling on it is just piss poor even with me stupidly having 40 in Arcane.

I just love how fast the Katana and Cane are for wailing into and interrupting mobs. The massive horizontal arc and multi-hit on the Hunter Axe 2h-mode charge up is awesome for packs and hit-and-runs on certain bosses. The Scythe just has too much verticality in its move set and I wish it was more like the Hunter Axe.

One sucky-ish thing about the Katana and Scythe - you can't use Fire/Bolt Paper on them (or any weapon with a Blood/Arcane damage stat).

Holy shit, really? I just assumed they were going mad/turning into beasts as the night progressed. This game has so many secrets it's crazy.

I just watched someone beat Rom on Youtube and I think I figured out what I was doing wrong.
There seems to be a sound cue with the meteors and as long as he was locked on to one of the little spiders and side-stepped he avoided them. I made the mistake of trying to run in a wide circle to avoid them and started running too early at that.
It's just little mistakes that cause you to hit a roadblock.

when you rang the bells something happened at least, you knew something changed in the world, here you kill a boss and as far as you know, nothing happened. like that door in the
church, the right side door
. what governs that randomly opening? there was no indication it did after whatever boss triggered it (
third or fourth cant remember
)
You mean other than the old man telling you, explicitly, to return to the church and then leaving a note on the floor saying the same thing?

I am scared to look through a ton of posts, can someone explain chalice dungeons to me, I did a few different ones and they all look exactly the same to me, I thought they were random? What is a root dungeon?

I was 33 but the way that you beat her doesn't require a high level. You basically use her own size against her, don't ever fight at distance just get in really close and constantly spam dodge to get behind her. You will get hit on occasions but just get straight back in close if you don't need to heal just yet.

I struggled at first by trying to be patient and fight a technical fight and it just didn't work for me.

The fact that "power" growth, such as it is, is entirely lateral from NG on feels a little boring at times, I'd have liked to stick in Normal and test out some weapons or somehow unlock the weapons from the get go with a new character. Feels like any kind of outre build is only really going to come into its own fairly late in Normal.

This is interesting, I was wondering about this too. Didn't know it was because of the stone! Maybe we can store it away? What is the purpose of the stone?

Hmmm.

Mine are both +5 and the sword hits harder than my saw without a doubt In both modes.

Really?
I hit harder with the Saw than with the short sword mode, at the same level and same gems. I dont know why then lol

Not sure but I think the root Chalice is the random one. The non-root have fixed layout.

Hmmm something most def is fubar.

Welp, I finished the game GAF :D Killed all optional bosses, got all hunter tools, 99% of the weapons, and of course
the best ending
.

What a crazy game. In fact, other than the technical blemishes -- long load times, some audio glitching, and the one time I got stuck in the world -- it's a pretty much perfect game. The level design is purely unreal, and manages to get better and better until the very end of the game, only marginally dipping in quality in maybe one or two places and one boss in particular I thought was more lame than usual.

Here's where I get to reveal a secret about myself: I played (and disliked) both Dark Souls 1 and Demons Souls. I didn't finish either of them.

I did, on the other hand finish and enjoy Dark Souls 2. For whatever reason, DS2 worked for me where those other games didn't, and I have no earthly idea why. Except in that game, I used coop for every single boss. And I think I hurt my experience, but it was honestly just too hard for me back then otherwise as I feel like I was learning the ropes.

But Bloodborne not only works, it exposes DS2 in my mind for being a totally inferior game. Bloodborne is the most perfect game experience I have had since Resident Evil 4. I'm astonished by how much fun I've had with it, and can't wait to -- at a slower pace -- consume the remaining content in NG+. This is the definitive reason to own a PS4, and I cannot wait for what I hope will be an inevitable announcement of Bloodborne 2. I made sure, this time, to do everything in the game solo, and I feel like a badass for it :D

A big thanks to everyone in this thread for helping for their useful hints, tips etc. I don't know if I could have finished to my satisfaction without all the awesome posts here!
Congrats! Finished the game last night myself and I feel the exact same way. Completely blown away.

Going to play a long ass session, starting with a little chalice dungeon action then probably the woods

also it never ceases to astound me that people read topics about games they don't want spoilers about. what? if you're really so sensitive you don't want to know the final bosses name maybe you shouldn't be discussing the game on the internet until you've beaten it, perhaps. personally i could care less bc my enjoyment of BB is in the combat and gameplay, hence why i have 11 or less in all combat stats but 30+ end and vit right now XD

come say hello!

Jesus spent like 2 hours in Old Yharnam figuring the shortcut out and found how to get but haven't opened it yet. Have to take care of the
Turret Guy
who is giving me trouble and the
Hunter
which shouldn't be too hard once I get rid of the
Turret Guy

Pretty sure I've found all the loot.
That damn underground place with tons of enemies was intense.

So what is the 2nd boss? Because I think I skipped something.

CB is optional, FG is mandatory so he is either first or second, after that its
VA or BSB. or the witch.

Use the terrain for cover to get down to the small town square and across it. You can kill one tough guy right below the tower where the gunner cant hit you and then climb up from the same location using the long ass ladder there.

rip machine gun preacher
or in this case gatling gun bastard
fought him normally once he gun parried me lol, next try i just did the cheese method
