BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Alright, I found my home for a bit.

How do I save in this game?

Right now I'm at the start and everytime I die I'm back in the beginning.

I lit one lantern time thing at the start but can't find anymore. does an item cause one to spawn? are there other checkpoints?

No you have to find them and they are not frequent. Should be 1 per area. Try and find shortcuts.

What about the points gained from killing enemies?

If I have 2000 for example and go back and save at a lantern, will I have 2000 when I respawn? How do I effectly save these points

So the points are the "souls" or Blood Echoes of the game.

You will lose these souls everytime you die. But you can pick it up from where you died from.

It is spent on buying items & leveling up.

I heard you can only start to level up after defeating the first boss.

It will be saved along with your items when you quit or reach a lantern

Use them. Otherwise when you die, they're gone unless you can reclaim them, which is different in this game. In past games they dropped on the ground where you died and you just had to get back to them to reclaim them.
In this game you need to kill what killed you, I think.
If you leave the game with points on you, they should be there when you return.

You don't have to go to a lantern to save, the game autosaves everywhere after every action. You should spend your experience to level up. If you die you lose the unspent experience you have on you, but if you get to the spot you died you can reclaim the lost experience. If you die again before getting back to that spot, it's lost forever.

What I thought was interesting about his impressions is how antagonistic other hunters are apparently. Thought we were gonna have new buds :( .

What initial setup do you suggest for those who never played soul series before(like me)? I've already pre-ordered it. But trying to understand it.

That bit i found weird
In the alpha Priest Gascoigne helped me out fight some enemies before the cleric boss
I wonder how he acts like in the full game.

Honestly a few things

Take your time

Don't be afraid to look things up

It is okay to die.

Summon people if things get too tough

The initial setup doesn't seem to really matter. The main things should be just remember to take take your time, explore and that dying is okay. It will happen, but don't worry about it too much.

Edit: lol beaten.

Look at past souls games to get an understanding. It's ok to seek help if you need some.

Gatling gun
confirmed?
1.0

Another area I wanted to talk about was a heavily beast infested area where there is a hunter with a mounted gatling gun, he shoots through the entire level damaging you and the beasts around.

Lanterns serve as checkpoints, but you'll also want to be on the lookout for shortcuts. The Souls games often use one bonfire (lanterns in this game) as a branching point to various areas. Your next checkpoint may not be another lantern, but maybe a ladder or door that leads back to the lantern you already lit. You'll continue to respawn at the same lantern, but now you'll easily be able to get to later parts of the level from it.

And to answer your question, nope, there's no items to make them spawn. There may be an item that will warp you to the last lantern you visited, but not one to make one appear. Everything is saved constantly though so if you turn off the game you should resume right where you were.

The most important question I haven't seen asked/answered yet, does the game have
anisotropic filtering?

A new weapon on the fextralife wiki:
the Saw Spear, available for purchase after having defeated Priest Gascoigne.

That can actually be found before the boss in the environment. Also lol on one of the names of the weapons on that site
Arrowhead
. So wrong on that one. I can understand why they named it that though based on the gif.

I think I will go with violent past. Strength for that great sword is needed.

Also just a heads up on weapon scaling stats. Some weapons are misleading. They scale with stats you would not normally associate with the weapon (at least the best scaling stat on the weapon that is).

Key word is
mounted
. Sounds like
Gyula has an overwatch position in the level and uses the mounted gun to shoot at everything moving out in the open.

Then when you
finally get to him, he wrecks you with the harpoon-blade weapon and some gun:

When you finally get to him you realize that he is overpowered as ****, and he pulls out a canon and a harpoon hookblade type weapon. I got him to 50% health and he started being a spammy b****. He killed me with that cannon of his. I'll go back later. Not wasting my bullets
.

Going by that I'm guessing it's the
harpoon-blade weapon Gyula uses?

Can you give some details on it? In PM if need be.

Yes it is that weapon. I was just chuckling at the name they gave it that's all. Name is (just the first part)
Stake...

"Defeating" (thats not all actually)
Gyula
also nets you the ability to purchase an additional weapon that has not been mentioned nor shown at all.

Not really much of a spoiler, but in regards to obtaining weapons outside picking them up in the environment. They must
be purchased once unlocked.

I said on reddit whoever played it at EDGE must not have realized
defeating bosses could unlock weapons for purchase.

I think some people have no idea how stories in these games are being told, or how you're supposed to approach such stories and the really well crafted lore behind it.
which is fair, but pretending that it's "disposable nonsense" or just about a guy with a sword in a scary place is just wrong.

I'm not 'pretending' anything, simply stating that the story as it stands and the way it's presented does nothing for me. I do serial-chat to NPCs, but only as a means to further the game, ie selling additional goods, receiving items or triggering events. I have no interest in finding out who was the king of which particular gloomy castle or which monster used to be a particular tragic figure. I'll concede that it's competently done, but I feel like I can read the same level of po-faced fantasy in any number of RPGs or books. I really only play the Souls games -and most games generally- for the gameplay, striking visuals, atmosphere and fun factor.

So yeah, disposable nonsense for me.

Yes that is indeed the case for some I believe. Definitely for the Kirkhammer. Anyways that's all I will be contributing to this thread even though there is a lot more I know.

Lets just say there is a reason (weapon) I am going for a bloodtinge build. Take care.

Do we have any screenshot of that weapon?

Capra is only memorable because it's a god awful fight.

Getting sucker punched right after you enter the fog gate is just artificial difficulty

Capra is a fantastic fight. There are easily half a dozen ways to tackle it, including just lobbing firebombs over the wall. If the "surprise! The boss is going to attack you now!" is a deal breaker, well, Ornstein often does the same thing.

Easily a top 10 souls boss for me.

These pre-release spoiler threads are getting stupid. Tagging weapon names and game mechanics? What's the point?

People want impressions but don't want too much detail. At some point it should go full spoiler of course. But it's 10 days left to go...
