BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Shiiiit. I'll be new to the 'series' so forgive my ignorance, but what's the rationale behind the pause-ban? Seems unnecessarily frustrating.

The game is constantly communicating online while you play- Setting up messages, invasions, summons and the rest.

No, it didn't. You chose to read it like that.

disposable nonsense (I'm a guy with a sword in a scary place and I have to not die- I don't care who's trying to kill me or why)

No, you made your point pretty clear. Just 'cause you don't know what's going on, don't accuse the story of being 'disposable nonsense'. It has one of the strongest and most engaging stories/lore of the last gen.

Always online. Can't pause online games. Would interfere with messages, phantoms, invasions (and queue for invasions).

Quit = pause in these games.

Nobody ever said that though, despite what the internet would have you believe.

In terms of who the game is aimed at, and who we want to capture in terms of the audience, obviously we can’t betray or disappoint the fans out there,” said producer Masaaki Yamagiwa, speaking at gamescom today.

“They’re very, very important. They’ll be the main ambassadors of the game.”

But “we do want more people to share in this experience

You died a lot in the previous games, and you had to persevere, but one of our main goals with this game is that we don’t want to focus on punishing the player,” he said.

“We want to deliver a game that gamers love. If the gamer likes the game they’ll definitely like it enough to have that bit of perseverance, but the way in which we’re making the game? The sense of punishment is much less

Maybe they changed that sentiment since then, but who knows. Or maybe that was just PR talk.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. I assumed, due to its reputation, it was just like that to make it harder.

Unless want to go to the bathroom in the middle of battle, there isn't much of a reason to stop doing anything. You have to be on your feet when you are out in the world. If you really want a save haven then that is the hunters dream where you can stand around as long as you want. Also pausing would give you an advantage of maybe preparing yourself in the menu and do stuff, like buffing yourself with items like in other games, to make you feel like you have one leg up on the games universe, but no these games never considered you anything that deserved special treatment to everything else in the game world.

No, I don't care what's going on, both due to the actual content (which I have sampled and found to be not to my taste), and the distribution method which was also likewise unfavourable. That's the crucial difference. I get it. I don't like it. I'm quite happy to enjoy the games with or without narrative context, because they're damn good in their own right.

Again, we're back to 'don't dislike the thing I like in front of everyone' territory. I'll view Souls' lore however I like, and it's my right to do so.

hey Verendus
where is Yakuza Ishin
localization announcement at.

I also wish that they released the game earlier at this point, but they're not going to so fuck ya' all already playing the game

uh,
While I agree on the story behind Souls being disposable nonsense (I'm a guy with a sword in a scary place and I have to not die- I don't care who's trying to kill me or why)
okay.

Do we know how shitty they made shields? Ever since they said they are still in but gimped I want to know how crummy they are

If its like the other games. No.

I think it took edge 10 hours to find one so it will be a while before someone finds one.

I hope FROM just put that one crappy shield in the game to troll us.

i don't understand why people complain about souls not having a pause button. start > left > up > A/X > down > A/X performs the same function and can be done at any time when someone isn't invading or you aren't at a boss.

Invasions have never been plentiful enough that I've went afk in an area and came back dead.

There's always safe stops from the regular enemies.

Really? So what have I been doing for years? Imagining it?

You just make the player a ghost and the game world goes on around it. Many games do this.

Many games might do this (I've honestly never seen it), but the Souls series does not. If you want to go afk you simply have to quit the game and reload when you come back. It essentially does exactly what you want.

Regarding the pause stuff, what happens when you press the share or Playstation button?

It isn't a deal breaker for me, but as a busy adult with many important things to do a pause button can be handy.

I wonder how suspend/resume will function, if at all, with Bloodborne

The game will keep running in the background.

If you need to pause, just go into the menu and quit the game. The game autosaves after every thing you do, you won't lose any progress whatsoever.

Just came in hoping to find the completion time.

That length sounds amazing, and I have no doubt there's lots of replayability. Pre-load starts on the 22nd? I generally don't pre-order games but the Souls series (Do we need a new name for it now?) has never let me down so I was all over it.

New impressions from Reddit

Picked it up at a market here in Kuwait city.

FYI the store stopped selling it because someone from Sony actually called them.

Early impressions, I'm approx 9-10 hours in.

Combat is very much improved since alpha, hitboxes are amazing and not janky at all like DKS2.

Game overall seems very easy until you reach the 3rd district. I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I have played the souls series so much, or it's just a little more toned down than the early areas in the previous games.

Atmosphere is incredible, though haven't really had much of the story 'revealed' to me yet minus some NPC's and a couple of item descriptions.

There is a really awesome creepy mansion with what looks like a giant eyeball monster that one shotted me. Guess I shoulnd't be going there yet.

The citys 3rd district feels like a maze. It's just huge and confusing as hell. Reminded me of the depths and blight town a lot.

I could be mistaken here, but there appears to be at least one enemy that uses a 'soul spear' like spell. Or at least throws some kind of glowing spear at you, I was kind of distracted by another enemy before dying.

Something I am finding really frustrating and anxiety building... the new way to retrieve after death is a lot more punishing. I died at the end of a long bridge which was swarming with werewolves and dogs, and stood no chance of getting back to my blood without the firebombs and bulllets I used to get there the first time around. No more 'speed running' to your death spot this time around, which leads me on to the next point.
Enemies literally hunt you down once they spot you. So far, most of the enemies appear to be much more determined to chase you down when you aggro, they follow you everywhere. Every time I have tried to 'speed run' past enemies to get to the boss again I have died very quickly. You simply have to fight or get overwhelmed.

I'm currently stuck in a foggy graveyard area. The FOV feels really enclosed due to the fog and the enemies have enormous sweeping weapons that kill me in one or two hits.

TRAPS! oh my god... traps. So many traps. Traps, everywhere.

I opted for the blunderbuss at the start. Guns that I have picked up so far absolutely suck, and bullets are rare.

NPC that hints at allowing you to re-spec your stats but I couldn't seem to do it at my current progress, he says something about not being worthy?

I have not come across any covenants yet.

more soon!

Someone on reddit who has it says one NPC implied a respec option, so that's good.

It will probably quit the game once you suspend and you will have to reload the game once you resume. I think the same thing happens when you lose internet access.

Is this game entirely unplayable without internet access? I thought those are just features that can (and should) be turned on.

And damn, I hope the load times aren't too bad.

The sound that plays for a backstab is so good. The audio as a whole is great. Can't believe he hasn't been banned yet. Maybe Ustream is slower to ban.

You just lose the online features when playing offline. 100% playable offline. In past games at least, it made you reload your game when you lost internet access.

Are there any bigger screenshots available? I kind of want to have my expectations ready in regards to the in-game IQ. I don't mind aliasing but it never hurts to go in with the proper expectations.

So the loading screen is just the game's logo. Bit disappointed as i liked to see item descriptions as loading screens in the Dark Souls games

I think the loading time was about 20 seconds when I saw it from the refuge to the beginning area in the world. Not super quick but didn't seem too bad.

Load times vary based on the situation. Any time player teleports to hunter's dream its relatively quick 5 - 8 seconds. But when teleporting from the hunter's dream into the environment it is a lot longer. When one dies though load times are less than 5 seconds.
