Borderlands 2 - PC Performance Thread

OK so timeout is a router issue. What ports needed to be forwarded?

edit:Well DMZ worked but I'd rather not do that. Other people are having probs so I'm hoping this is a game issue that Gearbox can patch soon.

Anyone using a 7870? Not entirely happy with my performance so far. Getting about 70-100 fps when nothing much is going on, but dipped into the 30s-40s at the start of the game when the ice creatures raided the first camp you come across.

Most settings maxed, FXAA off , resolution 1080. Using the 12.6 Catalyst drivers

Try 12.8 drivers and 12.8 Cap3.

Perhaps the easiest way to fix Spotflux breaking Windows DNS settings is to set the primary and secondary servers to Google's own. You may even find DNS lookups to be slightly faster, and in fact it's for this reason that I haven't used my ISP's DNS servers for years.

Same here exactly. The only issue I've had with Spotflux (thanks for the introduction GAF) is when I sign onto Origin, it puts me in Offline mode.

Anyway, B2 is running so fucking tight on my 670, well worth the purchase. Did anyone else go with Zer0?

I think I should turn on framerate display because I only have a ivy bridge i5 2650k with a 560ti, everything maxed including physics at 1080p and I swear it's locked at 60 fps. Are some of you running at higher resolutions? Maybe I'm just not that sensitive to framerate.

Yeah, major slowdowns for me with PhysX on medium with my crossfired 6950's.

I guess my i7-950 isn't going to cut it, the CPU can't handle the load. I really need to go Nvidia.

i52500k stock
Gtx465 1gb factory oc
8gb ram
1920x1200

Everything maxed, physx low. Getting a steady 45 fps. Haven't really monkeyed around with anything too much though

Buddy is interested in picking this up.

His specs:

AMD 64 x 2 2.3 Ghz
Geforce 9800 GT 1GB ram
2 GB memory

yay or nay

if yay, what to expect?

edit: 360 version is the other option

Maxed out with Physx low at 1080p.

The setup on the right is a 9800GT, listen at 7.40.

Even without Physx it will look noticeably better than the 360 version, it all boils down to your friend's preference. If he values graphics then the PC version is the obvious choice.

Modern CPUs can easily handle those type of physics. The code is just unoptimized for CPUs. It might even be single threaded. Which is stupid, because it's not single threaded when it runs on a GPU.

Check your processor usage in task manager with PhysX on high and see if it goes up or down compared to PhysX off. Bet you it goes down.

anybody able to guess what i can expect out of

gtx 580
i5-2500k
8bg ram

including physx? i played for a little last night, but i didn't play with settings, and didn't turn on physx.

My SLI was bugging out, so I turned it off.

With just 1 680 going with everything including physx maxxed, never dropped below 70. Game runs beautifully.

I'm really enjoying the PhysX in this, got a laugh out of me when when the brown coloured goo fluid overflowed out of one of those portable toilets.

My 2011 iMac is running really well. Can seemingly lock 30 with AO and PhysX High on a 6970m and a 2700k i7 at 1080p on my Plasma.

WHen PhsyX kicks in there's a tiny hitch, but then seems fine. Haven't been in any PhysX water sections, though.

Also, excuse my ignorance- but would installing 12.8 Cap3 be of any use if I'm just using a single 7870 card?

Caps are mostly for CF, but sometimes, they also offer improvement for single cards. Either way, it doesn't hurt to have the latest Cap install.

my Specs are:

core i7 860 @ 3.3Ghz
GeForce 660Ti
8GB Ram

I have everything on max including physx
in-game FXAA turned on
Depth of Field turned off

When I'm just wandering around or fighting 1 or 2 enemies I get a pretty steady 60FPS, but if there is a lot of shit going on I definitely get dips in performance, down to the 30-40FPS range

I also get a weird freezing or stuttering from time to time, the game will be running perfectly smooth and then just freeze altogether for 2-3 seconds and then go back to running fine, i'm hoping this fixed in a driver update

I agree with some others that think the PhysX fluid for the most part doesn't look very good, I wish there was a way to turn fluid off but leave the other PhysX effects

I read in another forum that PhysX medium has most of the effects except the fluids. Maybe someone else here can confirm this.

I don'y know if other people have been saying this, because I have been playing the game. I have a HD 7950 and a 2500k @ 4.2ghz, and my framerate is very unstable, it goes from 60fps when I am just walking around to around 20fps when fighting 4 or more enemies. Also, the framerate struggles to stay at 40fps on the equipment and map menus.

I turned off AO because that usually helps even the fps out, and then I lowered the draw distance but it is still bad, which I did not expect at all since I can run other games a lot better than this.

Is there something I can do to help with this?

Do you have physx turned on (medium or high)?

razek smaa comparison

WITHOUT SMAA:

SMAA ENABLED:

The performance cost is near zero. Again, if you have 5 minutes of free time, take a break from the game and enable it. Instructions:

1. Download 1.2 from here: http://mrhaandi.blogspot.com/p/injectsmaa.html
2. Extract.
3. Go to the d3d9 folder.
4. Drag all files to your 'steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32' folder.
5. Go back to playing an awesome game!

It's personal taste, but don't use FXAA. It's blurry.

Can somebody who has SLI try it with it on and off and comment on the SLI performance versus single GPU? Read in other thread of some people having SLI issues, but with one GPU it was fine.

disable multi gpu mode on your 690 smokey, its basically SLI

Thanks dude- will be installing 12.8 cap 3 tomorrow

I'm running 12.8 and 12.3 CAP 3 on a 7970, OC'd, max settings and I'm getting major drops in battles. It runs a silky smooth 60FPS (capped) across all terrain, even large draw distances, water, textures, etc. But if more than a handful of baddies start shooting, shit gets down to 17-23 FPS. PC CPU is Sandy Bridge i5 2500K (stock) - I don't think it's Physix settings, as I've tried low to high with no effect.

Any beta drivers coming out that could help this?

i know that ;), im at work

i even played this game for 30-45 minutes this morning in my work clothes :(

guess i'll try it when i get home if nobody else can...will experiement with performance with SLI/non-SLI @ 2560x1600, and then hookup my 120hz monitor for 3D and 1080p impressions.

You can give these a shot and report back.

Anyone with similar specs to this try running with PhysX on Medium:

i5 quad 2.7
6850 1 gig
4 gig RAM
Win7 64

I played a little last night with everything on max but physX on low at 1080p, and it ran quite well. Wondering if I should even bother seeing how awesome physX is tonight only having to turn it off because of the performance hit.

Last night when fighting for the Claptrap's eye, my framerate dipped into the teens but I blamed it on Physx. Now, I'm not sure since I'm seeing multiple people with 7XXX cards reporting ridiculous drops. I didn't have much time last night to really test it out. If larger scale fights, with Physx on or off, drop the framerate, like I saw last night, I will be more than a little annoyed. I've been using an ATI/AMD card now for a few years and have been lucky for the most part, but recently, they have been pissing me off.

Curious what performance I'd get with these specs

i7 920 3.8 Ghz
7850 2GB
12GB RAM
W7 64-bit

I'd guess 2 fps, but what do I know.

Is this seriously a question? Hey guys will my $250 video card run this game at all. I know I have a 4 core/8 thread cpu, but will that work too??? I need answers....

You sound agitated.

To elaborate a bit more, with PhysX on High what kind of performance should I expect?

Would it be possible for you to post the GPU usage you are seeing during these drops? I'm curious and I won't be home to check it out for my self for a while.

My friend is having the same exact issue. Hope someone can figure out some specific ports to try

ok so this happened :o
