The PC version is almost identical to the console version but has better visuals. That's what people are bitching about. PC gamers are just accustomed to a different standard, that's all =P I think people were bitching about the same online issues on the first day of 360/PS3 release. I've personally had no problems getting friends to join my game.
Just to provide the counterbalance point, the PC version doesn't really have visuals that look that much better than consoles, in my opinion. Textures etc. don't seem that much better are visibly load in at the level start, it only uses DX9 etc.
I think a good many people still can't play or host. You need to at least forward a bunch of ports to try to host, and in my case I haven't been able to add any friends at all (though I am apparently the only one with this particular problem...no dev feedback, and I still don't know any official form to submit). Volc hasn't been able to play with anyone, apparently, and a couple of other people are also having problems. I've pretty much given up on the game at this point. I'm guessing any patch they release won't catch my odd isolated bug, but who knows. It's sad since it's kind of a waste of $34...I don't even want to play single-player without the option of co-op, since that's basically why I bought the game.
And yes, not being able to force a save seems really silly. It tells you it's saving when you quit in single-player, but you reset to the last checkpoint I guess.
Did anyone see my question about the "Offline" text showing up on the right side of the Online menu? Is that normal or is it supposed to say Online? It also says my mic is disabled for some reason, there.
