Borderlands |OT| More guns than the population of the Netherlands

So is this lower than $59.99 anywhere?
$58.99 at Amazon... which I've just ordered from even though I already pre-ordered from Steam because I'm a whore and because I just recently started Fallout 3 and Demon's Souls, neither of which is holding my attention very well.

My buddies and I have encountered a bug where one of us will create a party and invite everyone, but when everyone joins, the game won't load their gamertags, and displays their character (e.g. Roland, Lilith, etc.) in the lobby and above their heads once in game. The host's gamertag will appear though.

So far it just happens randomly, and then we just have someone else host the game and that fixes it.

Not a bug. As previously mentioned, when you play co-op, you should be close to the level others playing with you or be doing the same missions. Next time, host a game yourself instead of letting someone else host since they might be a few missions ahead of you and it'll fuck you over.
Unless I'm greatly misunderstanding him, he's saying that the following are true:

1. He started at level 16, much further along in the game than the person he played with. HE was ahead, not his friend.
2. He then played for a while, saved, and quit.
3. He came back to the game, saw the save file with the new (correct) timestamp, indicating that it had saved his progress.
4. He checked the file, only to discover that he had gained no levels, and lost all the cool guns he got during laying co-op.

I don't think he meant it was an issue of just not getting credit for quests or quest items due to someone else being ahead in the game. It was an issue of losing all the EXP and guns he had gained during a play session. (correct me if any of this is wrong, of course)

They weren't ahead of me. Isnt only supposed to happen if I'm behind?

Either way I think as long as it's not a crazy difference (like 10+ lvls) it should save.

EDIT:

Yeah. This is all correct.

I was a level 16 and my buddies were like an 8.

For PC Users

From 2K Elizabeth (Community Manager at Take2) regarding SecuROM and how people can't play yet own legit copies.

From ennui (Community Manager at Gearbox Software) regarding the same thing

You have to admit.. every problem or issue that has come up about Borderlands.. small or large has been addressed or is being looked into almost immediately by both. This is the first time I've seen any type of fast response like this..

They did this with Bioshock, also, both the initial the FoV and other niggles on the 360 and the odd flaws that they patched for the PS3 release. 2K seems to have some decent community managers.

Blizzard has by crushingly large amounts the best customer service I've seen from a dev (probably goes with a game that makes you $100,000,000 a month), but this is really nice too.

Level 30 Siren looking for someone to play with. Invite me to your game and I'll help anyone out. Just getting lonely after doing a ton of sidequests.

My Gamertag for 360 is Yagya

PC Retail is already in stores.. just being held in the back.. so some stores have broken street date for that and those people are mad they can't play it. They are also a bit mad that it was delayed a week yet the console one is out.. they dont understand why they can't play immediately.

Good to see 2K and Gearbox sees this and are working on something possibly.

I think the best solution would be to go ahead and unlock the game for everyone before the weekend :D

Seriously. Do it.

I am still not being allowed to pre-load due to the servers being "too busy". Anybody else still getting this message?

I'd imagine 24 hours later it can't be *that* bad...

Anyone playing on PC? Are there any issues with it 'cos I have it pre-ordered.

Only one issue: The game isnt "supposed" to be released till next week for PC gamers, yet retail stores started selling the PC disc version earlier this week, and steam has already started preloading for download customers. So those who own the disc based copy cant play because of security authentication(?) and steam versions are still locked.

EDIT: I was still getting the busy message earlier today, but after trying a few more times, I got in. 80% preloaded now. But seriously, they say they are looking into the issue, but isnt the only remedy for this, to just unlock the PC version for both disc and download copies?

I've been preloading for like 7-8 hours, and am at 86%.

The Dragon Age preload will be hell.

Not out til Tuesday friend.

I may double dip on it for PC, too. This is a fucking great game. It's so far beyond what I expected.

I will say though, I'd never play this on 4P myself, it'd be chaos. It's fantastic fun on 2P though. Solo is great too, if anyone is wondering. It's really good solo play, not some half-baked PSO kind of deal. More enjoyable to me than solo DII or WoW either.

Is there a good resource that explains weapon stat info? I just found two pistols and trying to figure out if the one that has the flashing 7 modifier is better... -that means each shot fires 7 projectiles, correct?

I've been told so many different things about this number, some one said it was 7 projectiles, another said it is a straight up multiplier, Dmg X numer = total

To lazy to test, I just use compare and if the arrow is green for more damage and the gun has a zoom i'm using it. Also have to compare rate of fire to make sure it will actually do more damage too.

So I was under the impression that there would be some variations of loot dropped off bosses. So far have only seen the same guns off bosses :(. Are there any rare spawns in the worlds, where do most people see the replayability coming from?

Bosses drop the same weapon from what I've seen so far, but the dozens of weapon chests that I've found, including those that you find near bosses, have new things all the time. Also, monsters and enemies drop things all the time.

Alright, renting this I've changed my tune a little.

+ Diablo loot = Gun porn. I just found a gun that ups my critial. Ups my damage and ups something else I'm forgetting plus a scope for ranged damage.
+ Criticals from headshots
+Graphics.

- I don't like any of the characters. ANY.
- The classes all seem kinda blech to me.
- The combat is still boring shit.

I wasn't jazzed about the game, but now that I've given it a little whirl, I think it's worth $20 for me. Def. not $60. I'll probably pick it up in a couple of months like I did Mirror's Edge. Too bad by then most people will probably be gone or level 60 douches that want to fight your level 1 ass. :|

DLC should ensure you've got plenty of people. Plus if its on PC...im sure someone will be able to mod something. Even Mirrors Edge has custom race maps.

Im a little confused, I thought the order of gun rarity was like white -> green -> blue -> purple -> orange

I had found some orange ones at level 25, which I assumed were legendary and Im pretty sure im right about that, but just now I found a yellow named gun. a GGNS Solid Surkov.

Where does this fit on the chain, and what are they called?

Those are still legendary, it's just that there is like three levels of them

Got the game last night

Played for about 20 minutes, seems kinda cool.
Was playing as lilith but dont really know whats going on yet or how to customize my stuff.

Nope. Going to get it on the PS3. I don't game on PC and if I do it's ten year old PC games. :lol

That's normal. You don't have much control over your character until about Lvl 10.

Ohhh, that's what the colors mean. :lol

I saw a bunch of green and purple things in my inventory and thought it meant the level needed to use them, that's nice to know. I'm a level 19 siren right now, I've played this game for hours on end and did that in one giant play up to Sledge(who was an annoying dick). The siren is starting to shine now, I was previously using the phasewalk to just get away from people but now it makes an explosion and does tons of electrical damage, and it'll only get better from here.

I think the combat is really exciting, myself. It makes the typical shooters look really boring when you're taking on quests above your level and improvising left and right. It's a good kind of Monster Huntery feel of skill.

I didn't like the classes much at first, myself, I swapped three times. :lol But once you start pouring in more talent points, getting more specific guns and getting really nice class mods I changed my tune.

Fuck me, turns out three of my friends all got borderlands and are XBLing it every night, raving about how badass it is

how much is it for a three month subscription to live?

I wish I could buy a backpack expansion, other than waiting to see if I will get it expanded from a quest. 15 max(outside of quest items) right now is not cool.

So is this game like Fallout 3 in anyway???

Kind of, well... It's sameish in theme that it's a wasteland RPG/Shooter, but it's got a lot more in common with Diablo in play and presentation. The gameplay also leans more towards the shooter side than the RPG side for the actual combat, too.

Ok, I'm watching the stream, and it looks like the guy running the stream is just picking up everything. How does that work? Is loot assigned a la Guild Wars? FFA just seems like it would cause rampant problems.

I have to thank this thread, I'm usually weary of Gaf Hype but this game is fucking awesome. I'm only lvl 5 with Brick and I can tell I will be playing this for a long time

Loot system in this game is "whoever gets to it first and press X gets it". Sadly.

Loot is FFA and if you play with assholes it will cause rampant problems. Just play with people you trust or people you can punch in real life if they screw you over if you're worried about people hogging loot.

Thanks for the streams, after watching Brandon's run through and the one gaffer's stream helped me make a purchase decision about this game. It's much harder to make a decision when the developers withhold so much information as they did in this case, especially about environments.

Wow, seems like a crazy oversight.

Is it possible to play 2 Live Players and 2 NPC's? Or just 2 Live Players and empty 3rd and 4th slots?

Yeah you can just play with 2 players. There is no AI teammates though.

There's no AI options. The game just scales itself up and down as players join and leave. Really, really nice function that probably would've made leveling in WoW less anti-social.
